Depends on the model of Mac, and how far in the future.

This is a complicated issue because it involves predicting the future, which is rapidly changing. I don't like the trend towards disposable tech, but that's where we are headed. We'll see how this plays out.

As for the specific drive concern, here's my take. I do not replace drives pre-emptively. Drives that get beyond years one and two tend to last quite a while (5-8 years). If you are concerned, periodic full scans and checks of the smart monitoring should catch the early signs. The only real protection is backups.

Then there are solid state drives. They change the game entirely.

And finally, if the systems can be repaired, someone other than Apple will be able to repair them, as long as there is a financial incentive to do so. Seems unlikely the the "authorized" repair shop will disappear. This won't apply to machines that Apple designs to be disposable, which could be coming, but making a machine "hard" to repair is mostly an issue for home repairs, not professional shops.

Cheers,
tod

Any music that was synced from your computer to your iPad will be found in the Music app on that device. The iTunes app is for purchasing content. A long period of loading might be a.slow Internet connection.

When I tried opening iTunes on the iPad, it went to "Loading..." with the little turning thing. This has gone on for more than 20 minutes now. iTunes on the Mac said it was done syncing with the iPad so I ejected the iPad. It's still "Loading." What do I do? adTHANKSvance!

Lou, Randy, Dan:
Thank you for tossing these ideas in the till. I'll begin dabbling in earnest after I get thru a couple heavy work weeks.

Note to Saklad and Neumann:
Your reposnses were so pathetic they inform us about you and nothing about the subject at hand.
This discussion list is not an outlet for self-loathing. There are professionals who can help with this and they're not here. Just go away. Please.

They were merely expressing the opinion expressed more tactfully by Dane Robison: that such a generic subject might lead to the email being summarily deleted by many recipients. It does bear a resemblance to the subject line of much spam.

Precisely. I'm sorry if my response came across as insultingnot my intention. I just think such a move, while possible, deserves a closer look at the implications of being dismissed at a glance.

DD gave you the answer you're looking for, although I've personally never been able to get it to work the way I want. What *has* worked for me is digging into the predefined stationery templates and modifying them to taste. It's not for the timid, but very doable. If you feel like giving it a go, head to the Apple mail stationery templates and select one you can live without, such as:

/Library/Application Support/Apple/Mail/Stationery/Apple/Contents/Resources/Stationery/Contents/Resources/Flower.mailstationery

Right-click to "show package contents" and you'll see all the "guts" of that particular stationery.

I chose "Flower." The easy part is replacing top.jpg with my logo, but the meat of it is in modifying content.html. I'll be honest: I don't recall seeing a way to specify a subject, but it may be worth poking around if you feel adventurous. At your own risk, etc. Have fun!

Dane

Well, that's good in a back-handed way: a Mac infection is big news whereas
a Windows infection is just another drop in the ocean (or BAU if you
prefer).

Hi all,

I've been having this issue for a while now and yes I have run fix permissions several times, both the one that OSX has and Onyx along with Onyx's other facilities. Am considering Mackeeper.

This is the issue and sadly I am not sufficiently technical enough to understand how to fix this problem. It does prevent me from shutting down my Mac Pro, early 2008 model with AMD/ATI 5770 and just causes my Mac to restart instead.

panic(cpu 2 caller 0xffffff80005e3a21): "A kext releasing a(n) IOHIDElementPrivate has corrupted the registry."@/SourceCache/xnu/xnu-1699.26.8/libkern/c++/OSObject.cpp:218

Anyone able to decipher the above and help fix this will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Please post the full kernel panic report (from Console), not just the
one line below.

cheers Chris
