Never used handbrake, but have used Mac the Ripper on some purchased protected videos (not purchased thru iTunes though). Worked well stripping DRM, then burned using Roxio Popcorn.

I've not heard of that. I thought it was for ripping DVDs to a "computer"
format, not the reverse.

This would be my suggestion. You can also use it to stream music from
iTunes.

I have had much more success with Mac The Ripper and then burning with Toast, but Toast should not be necessary

you might be thinking of Ripit.
these guys developed it for their mother.
it can't be put on a DVD.
it used to be handbrake and mactheriper. but, i think mactheripper went south.
i bought iSkysoft iMedia Converter. rather expensive. About 70 bucks.

Doug, I won't address your judgment on the forum, but it should be obvious from my message that I know I am not a moderator, and that moderators do make these decisions. I was expressing an opinion, as a victim, that they should have already.
I would also point out that my original comment in this thread was an opinion only, that made no reference whatever to the original poster, and NOT an insult or personal attack of any kind.

This is a Macintosh discussion list. Not 5th grade English. Our aim
here is to have a useful/pleasant conversation. We don't have
unlimited time to proof-read, and we aren't writing an elementary
school paper for a grade.
Much like a spoken conversation, we do the best that we can given our
limited time and energy. Also similar to a spoken conversation,
having someone stand next to us and correct our grammar, or spelling,
etc. is rude and not at all welcomed.
Please take your pedantic comments to a more appropriate forum, maybe
one for grade-school English teachers.

please resist the urge to browbeat. if a member flames another,
one of the moderators will step in.
i suggest we all drop this subject now,
and move on, hopefully with some exhibiting a more respectful attitude towards
others.

Running Repair Permissions will have no effect on a Kernel Extension
(kext) problem.
Kernel Extensions are add-on little programs that change the
functionality of OS X. Chances are that you downloaded and installed
(maybe unwittingly) a program that isn't fully compatible with the
version of OS X that you are running.
The first thing that I would try would be to uninstall anything that
I had installed fairly recently that modifies how OS X works. (That
is, changes its looks, adds menus, functionality, etc.) You may
need to use an uninstaller from the original developer of the
software you installed.
If that doesn't help...
I would look in:
Apple menu --> System Preferences --> Accounts --> Login Items
and see if there is anything there that is new, or which you
installed and don't really want/need. Use the minus box to uninstall
anything unwanted.
Then restart you Mac.
If that doesn't help, have a look in:
[hard drive icon] --> Library --> Extensions
See what's in this folder. I have nothing in this folder.
There is an invisible Extensions folder, but I don't think that you
should be mucking with it. If none of the above suggest a solution,
the best/safest way to go would probably be to do a clean re-install
of OS X. I'd point you to an article on how to do that, but you
didn't say which version of OS X you were running.

One of my MBPros trackpad, running Lion (the Spouses!) click is too sensitive. If one is over a link and brushes the trackpad with finger it activates the link. I tried using it yesterday and ended up closing windows on what felt just like a mouseover on any other MBPro and opened unwanted links on webpages. It is very frustrating.
Essentially, the trackpad causes a lot of unwanted input.
I could find no way to adjust this, but do not use Lion myself, so may have missed something. Is there a way or do you think this is a hardware problem.
TIA,
Bill
