Use your iPhone to shoot shake-free videos, with Picosteady

Posted: 11 Jul 2012 04:27 PM PDT

Between its ability to capture 1080p video, and its seemingly-endless supply of third-party editing apps, the iPhone 4S has become a great tool for budding film-makers.

And when software and megapixel count won’t get you the shot you want, there’s also a large selection of iPhone accessories up to the task. Enter the Picosteady…(...)

Tim Cook flies to Sun Valley, presumably exploring deals with media moguls

Posted: 11 Jul 2012 03:45 PM PDT

Apple’s boss today made a surprise appearance at the Allen & Company Sun Valley Conference, an annual retreat, to attend a session called "Iran vs. Israel", The New York Post reported. No one knew if he would put in an appearance and upon arriving he kept a low-key profile.

Apparently, Cook has lined up a bunch of powerful media executives for one-on-one meetings, looking to cut deals. After all, Apple is a media company (a powerful one, too) and it’s been long-rumored that Cupertino’s been persuading Hollywood moguls to provide premium programming for the mythical iTV…(...)

Free wireless internet provider FreedomPop to go LTE

Posted: 11 Jul 2012 03:09 PM PDT

Back in May of this year, we told you about FreedomPop. The up-and-coming wireless broadband provider plans to disrupt the traditional carrier model with a combination of free 4G service, and iPhone products.

The idea sounded great on paper: offer iPhone users free service in exchange for buying these $99 cases with built-in FreedomPop modems. But sadly, the company seemed intent on using WiMAX technology…(...)

Facebook releases SDK 3.0 Beta with iOS 6 integration

Posted: 11 Jul 2012 12:14 PM PDT

As it promised a few weeks ago, Facebook today has released a major iOS SDK update for developers. SDK 3.0 Beta is chock-full of features that will enable iOS developers to start taking advantage of Apple’s newfound relationship with the social network.

During its WWDC keynote last month, Apple announced system-level Facebook integration into both Mac OS X and iOS 6. Not only does this give users an additional outlet to share content, but it also means there will soon be no more need for OAuth…(...)

Don’t say good-bye to that obnoxious official Twitter app on your Mac yet. This jailbreak tweak lets you tell time using vibrations

Posted: 11 Jul 2012 09:00 AM PDT

Many people will think this tweak is completely devoid of usefulness, and to an extent I agree, but you have to admit that the idea and execution is original, and well done.

VibeTime is a jailbreak tweak available on Cydia, that allows you to tell the current time using vibrations. That means that it’s totally within the realm of possibilities to tell the time without pulling your phone out of your pocket.

Sure, not many will find a real world use for this, but the idea and execution is pretty interesting…(...)

Amazon outs GameCircle, it’s the Game Center for Kindle Fire games

Posted: 11 Jul 2012 08:38 AM PDT

Amazon is keen on taking its Kindle Fire tablet beyond reading e-stuff, listening to music and watching movies and has today announced GameCircle, a brand new application programming interface (API) for developers, with social gaming features akin to Apple’s Game Center on iOS devices (and soon Mountain Lion Macs). It’s got the basics nailed, the stuff like leaderboards and achievements. Amazon is hoping developers will quickly pick it up and enrich their Kindle Fire games and who knows, it may come in handy if the company decides upon releasing a phone of its own…(...)

The developer of ‘DreamCoin’ has an extremely vivid imagination

Posted: 11 Jul 2012 08:10 AM PDT

DreamCoin is one of those jailbreak tweaks that is so goofy, you almost can’t stop yourself from laughing out loud. As you can probably tell from the video within, even I was barely able to contain myself.

DreamCoin is nothing more than a glorified Activator toggle that sits on your Home screen. You can assign it one “dream” aka, an Activator action, and execute said action by tapping the coin residing on your Home screen. Dreams? Coins? Is this real life?(...)

An easier way to mute your iPod touch or other iOS device

Posted: 11 Jul 2012 08:00 AM PDT

The fact that the iPod touch lacks a physical mute button, shouldn’t prevent one from muting their device in style. A new jailbreak tweak, entitled TapVolumeToMute, allows you to do just that.

Even if you have an iOS device with a physical mute button, this is a tweak that you still might want to give a go. That’s because it allows you to easily mute your device with a quick tap on the volume heads up display. More details inside…(...)
