I did set up a password and it did work, once.

Tried several times with negative results, simply opened without putting in the password.

Thanks.

Sorry I didn't reply to this, I've been away.

The MacBook Air is plugged into the HomePlug via ethernet cable in my office, and the other HomePlug attaches via ethernet cable to the Airport Extreme in the house. It's all working fine now anyway.

I just noticed I can't preview the system sounds in Preferences.
I wanted to change that deep base note that I guess is default for Notifications, but unable to hear any of the sounds available.
Is it just my iMac or another ML flub?

I have the same model MacPro and upgraded to a better video card a few
years back. It would not let me install ML.

Howdy.

I have a first generation MacPro which doesn't qualify for Mountain
Lion install.

However, there is now information going about, and some articles, that
upgrading the video card in a MacPro may <possibly> make it qualify and
allow for the installation of Mac OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion.

Here's one article from MNN:

rly.recent.models/>

And here's one sentence from this article;

"As a rule of thumb, if a user's machine is using an Nvidia GeForce
9400M or better, it is likely to work with Mountain Lion."

I intend to do some more research on this and would get a newer video
card if it would allow for Mountain Lion to be installed.

I think that the MacPros seem to have some problems with video cards
becoming defective. I've had this experience with a 2nd and faster
video card that became defective and have know several other MacPro
tower owners with similar experiences.

Howdy.

Thanks for your note Mark.

Could you respond with the exact model video card that you upgraded
to? Should be available in System Information (About This Mac… etc.)

In other words, is it an Nvidia GeForce 9400M or higher card model
(reading that line from the article)?

You do need a password on your computer to use Onyx. I have never given any of my computers but had to this time.

Having had a look at the 'recursive App Folder.png' which you posted today I think you have two different Applications folders (one inside the other) and in addition an alias file to one of the Applications folders. It is not actually a recursive situation.

Let me try to explain what I mean.

Let us call the outermost Applications folder 'Applications_1'. The fourth item of Applications_1 is another Applications folder: let us call that Applications_2. Now Applications_1 is different from Applications_2. For instance Applications_1 includes 'FaceTime.app' which is absent in Applications_2. Similarly Applications_2 includes a folder 'Canon Utilities' which is not to be found in Applications_1.

Hence Applications_1 is a folder (containing applications) and also containing Applications_2 which in turn is a folder containing a (slightly) different list of applications. The odd thing about all this is that somehow a folder with the name 'Applications' is contained in folder of the same name. I would have expected the OS to have prevented that happening. But nevertheless it seems to be the case that you have two 'Applications' folders, both named 'Applications', one inside the other.

On top of this you clearly have inside Applications_2 an alias file (it is unmistakable in your '.png') which links to Applications_1.

I am puzzled when you say dragging the alias to the desktop results in it being replicated in its previous position. I have tried setting up Folder_1/Folder_2/AliasToFolder_1 and find I can move the alias in and out without difficulty. Be that as it may can you not simply delete the alias to Applications_1 in the normal way?

Having done that can you not simply separate the two applications folders by dragging folder 'Applications_2' out of folder 'Applications_1'?

You could check what I have said above by running 'ls -l Applications_1' and 'ls -l Applications_2' in the Terminal ('ls' and '-l' are lower case 'ells'). That will give you an unimpeachable listing of the contents of the two folders and will also show the link file for what it is.

I hope this is comprehensible and some help.
