Thanks Barry,
I will watch to see if, as you suggest, there is a "system" to it or it's random.

Sometimes ISP's don't like to send stuff written on a "foreign" account. Sending a bell.net message using the bell.net SMTP server was no problem.

No idea why it happens, but I have had that experience a few times, usually when wifi isn't strong. So I go to an area with a stronger signal, call the email up from the outbox, hit send again, and it goes immediately. Otherwise,mi will notice it go on its own when I am in a better area.
Now that I have my own MiFi, I don't have that problem.

Two days ago I signed up with a new ISP (Bell.net in Canada) and then found that while my internet connection worked well, Mail I tried to send went to the outbox and stayed there. This evening I have the same problem, new messages refuse to leave the outbox.
Hmmm - I had a thought, use the new account instead of gmail. I copied/pasted the text to a new message box and chose to send from the Bell account. Everything that had hung promptly went out. My correspondent will now get the message twice.
Can anyone here suggest what is going on?

Sometimes I want to see something on the internet that requires Adobe Flash Player. Is it OK to install it on an iMac? I've done a little research and it seems there may be some problems. I am new to Mac, having come from a PC where Adobe is always available. I would hate to miss the YouTube videos that seem to require Adobe Flash Player.
Thanks,

Yes, you can install it on a Mac, either as a browser plug-in (which I use), as a separate application, or both.
Be sure to install it directly from Adobe's website and keep it up to date, in order to minimize the risk of malware.

Agreed.
I used a G4 tower till last year for email and invoicing plus storage on all the IDE drives I had in it. Internet was very slow and without the latest flash updates, I imagine things now will probably be worse. Even a G5 nowadays is going to be somewhat painful to use.

An artist friend has many jpg's on her desktop -- maybe a thousand. We all know how this is a Bad Thing for system performance and we are endeavoring to rectify this.
The problem is that she doesn't want to put these in one folder (she'll never find particular ones again!) and making separate folders for them is quite a task. So, it looks like an app is needed!
She needs something that will allow her to label each photo with several keywords; and search the group and bring up all associated photos ("barn" for example). iPhoto is insufficient for this need.
Can anyone recommend such an organizational app? No editing required. These are all for reference -- inspiration for her painting.
She uses Snow Leopard.
Thanks,
Dave

Why is iPhoto insufficient? Give the pictures keywords and then make smart albums that have the various sets of keywords AND'ed. An album that, say, has keywords "barn" (your example), "Italy" and "Cousin Bob."
Another idea, far more crude, would be to use Automator to rename the files so they stand out. Rather than IMG_288 it can be "Barn-07

Howdy.
There are many applications that can do this.
The term for this type of program used to be Asset Manager but that has
fallen out of favor.
iPhoto can have one or more keywords assigned to each image and then
you can search on the keywords.
GraphicConverter. I use the great shareware program GraphicConverter by
Lemkesoft (CG) for many tasks. CG can have captions for photos,
keywords, Categories, Credits, Origins, Copyright info, even Contact
and GPS info. GC is also a combo of Asset Manager / Photoshop / and a
major batch file renamed and sorter. You can use Finder color labels in
GraphicConverter. Does a Great slide show.
MediaPro. This great program has gone through several name and
ownership changes. Started as iView Media, became Microsoft MediaPro
for a short time, then was bought and became Media Pro by PhaseOne.
Media Pro is an Asset Manager, cataloger/indexer, renamed, image
editor, and has great sorting capabilities. Does a good slide show.
MediaPro has an extensive ability to do what it calls "annotations" or
detailed info in separate fields for things like, who, what, where,
when, and can even create custom fields for data. I use MediaPro to
change orientation to the correct (portrait or landscape) for images
that get confused by this when moving images from digital cameras to
computer to email, etc. It can re-orient images in batches. Metadata
(as in landscape or portrait) info can be read differently by various
applications and this causes that problem.
There are other serious programs out there but they would be overkill.
For only 1,000 photos, iPhoto will work just fine but it's a good idea
to do a little learning about how to use it and it will work much
better for your friend.

**FINDER** is sufficient for adding keywords, and
**FINDER** (via Spotlight) is sufficient for searching for those keywords.
Finder will also then let you put them into various nested folders according to those keywords.

Hello,
Can you tell me where to find info about Automator.
I would like to rename some of my photos. iPhoto does not rename them

Thanks,

To all those following the ongoing saga of my memory upgrade, I received the replacement 8 GB kit today from DMS (along with a postage-paid package in which to return the 16 GB kit). Before installing I tried the 16 GB kit again a couple of times making extra certain to seat the cards fully, but no luck. Either my particular MBP won't except 16 GB, they are the wrong type memory, or they are bad.
I installed the new 8 GB kit and it works great. System Info reports an "OK" 4 GB module in each slot, and running Windows 7 under Parallels Desktop is significantly faster, but the Windows side and the Mac side. I'm a happy camper now.
BTW, just for fun I tried the original 2 GB module the genius at the Genius Bar told me was no good. It works fine.
Thanks to everyone who contributed to this effort.
Best,
Jim

Yes, there seems to be no end to opinions about which exact model will accept how much RAM. I'm thinking it must not be an exact science .
