It is impossible to remove the Camera App it is probably in a folder - use
the search page to find the app or look through each folder if you want to
move back.

Connect iPad to iTunes.

Click your iPad in the source list.

There is a Restore button there.

You would first, however, back up the iPad.

Backup first.

Restore second.

Thanks all. After reading suggestions I found the camera app hiding in the folder I had created for the granddaughter's apps. I feel like a real dummy, lol.

I have an iPhone but it has never occurred to me until now: does an iPad
have only one user account?

Yes. It would be nice if Apple brought user accounts to the iPad.

Howdy

I've heard of a program for iPad called Our iPad that does user accounts.

Also read a couple of rumors that the next release of iOS may have a user accounts feature but it's still just a rumor.

It seems that the upgrades in 10.7 have been reseting the defaults. In 10.6.8, I had the Terminal tweak to show ~/ Library, but sometime since it has been reset.

I wonder that is also why 10.6.8 on my external drives all dies at the same time.

Does anyone know an app or a Terminal command that would mute the Startup chime in Lion?

If you will note, it says that it is only good for PowerPC computers … not Intel computers.

"StartupSound.prefPane 1.0 requires a Mac with PowerPC processors running Mac OS X version 10.2 or later."

That is a direct quote from the support page. Since Daly is running Lion, it will not work.

I have the same problem and am looking for a solution also.

Okay, thanks. That's the very one that used to work for me then stopped. I've written to the developer.

By the way, commenting on my own post, thank goodness I read his web site before I sent the message to him. The web site clearly says it is not Lion compatible. I know it worked for me under Lion at first, but something broke it on my system. I do hope he continues development.

I have also tried one called Startup Chime Stopper.app. And another called PSSST. None of them works for me. At least PSSST is asking people to send their computer configuration and a notice as to whether it works for them.

Anyway, if anyone knows a secret way to turn off that chime, I would sure like to know about it. My own configuration is below my signature.

Okay, its above the numeric keypad on mine. I'll try that.

I went to download StartNinja, but the first note on its web page is:

No, that is not good, because like I said in the original post, the MBP, that will be traveling with me, is running 10.7.4 and the G4, that is homebound, is running 10.5.8 and is not capable of a higher OS.

I haven't looked to check if the ports are free yet, but since the MBP is the one that last changed setting on the AEBS, and I transferred my MobileMe account over to iCloud months ago, I bet they are closed or in use.

If they both ran 10.7, I would be home free.

I have not finished studying Jim's suggestion, but it looks good so far. Still puzzling things out or learning what it all means, though.

Ed, this is not directed at you.

I did not spell it out, but I __will not__ use a cloud service to do this, or store my personal data.

When I mentioned iCloud, it is because that is where the settings to start up Back to my Mac are. I am not storing of my data in iCloud. From the little reading I have done on the article Jim suggested, Back to my Mac is a graphic SFTP or secure graphic FTP application. The data as far as I can tell stays on just my hardware and moves securely across the internet.

I can not stress strongly enough, that I do not trust cloud services and the supposed privacy and security those services offer their customers.

Yes, I am the odd-ball, and just because I am paranoid, doesn't mean they aren't snooping on all of us. I just choose to make it harder for them.

Dropbox allows me to keep a copy of all my documents on all of my computers and handhelds. Each device has it's own copy and is updated as changes are made on any of the devices and of course makes a copy in the cloud for no cost.

I'm still not following this. It seems to me you can set up the G4 as a VPN server, and access it from the MBP. I KNOW that in earlier OS's I had no problem setting up VPN on my computer using free thrid-party software.

Also, it was very easy to set up my computer as an FTP server.

I have a sneaking suspicion that no one read the link I sent this morning, to the web site for "VPN Activator." As I said, the site explains that the (free) utility activates VPN capabilities that are in OS X but that are not provided to the user, as they are in the Server version of the OS. And the VPN Activator uses the same ports as iCloud, so I would have had to disconnect from iCloud to try it out, so I didn't.

The scary message that my Address Book and Calendar would be wiped from my computer if I turned off iCloud made me give up the effort.

How do you do that? How would he do screen sharing from a MPB back to a G4 at home? And how do you do Remote Management? I'm not challenging what you said. I'm extxremely interested in knowing how that would be done, as I want to do it myself.

I will be away from home for an extended period. I do not want to travel with my Drobo (RAID). I have copied some data to an external HD, but I can imagine the nightmare of trying to merge all the changes back into the RAID, and I also keep back ups on the RAID.

I wish to have access to the RAID as if I were on my home LAN. I wish to have the capabilities as if I could use Back to my Mac. BUT since the stay-at-home Mac can only run up to 10.5.8, I can not use the current Back to my Mac.

The SFTP in the article that Jim suggested sounds like what I want. I just have not had time to study the article and the process. I have never used a FTP before so I have some catching up to do.

Daly, I have never created a FTP server, so I have to learn that. I think we are talking the same thing, but I am lost in this area. It might be easy for you, but not for me, since I have never done it before or read up on it before.

That and my KIS(Sam) policy. The fewer the apps needed the better.

The article that Jim suggested, describes it in enough detail for me to use that as a start and do web searches from there to learn it.

Because I am trying to go between 10.7 and 10.5, there are problems using Back to my Mac in its current state. And I did convert my MobileMe account over to iCloud, so the ports may not be available. (I hate it when Apple over uses a name and confuses conversation.)

It makes sense to have it here, as these are "viewing" preferences.

Depending on the sort of "view" you have active, some of the options are
not currently available for that view. In List View, for example, you
cannot define the size of your icons. You would have to change the view
to Icon View to have that option available for modification.

Foster had the entire song demoed using Logic Pros extensive musical toolbox before he went into the production studio. Now, with each member contributing more to the process, the band is working together using Logic Pro to create its much-anticipated second album.
