The OP asked for a "basic checkbook," which is exactly what I use it for. I'm quite happy with it for that purpose, but add that I don't download from any accounts and I do most bill payments by scheduling them through the payees' websites. So I'm using it as a real basic checkbook. If that's all she needs it should work fine.

Mike,

What program are you using on the Mac for your basic checkbook?

I also use the web bill pay through company sites and through my bank. I also don't download my accounts.

Thanks,

Jennifer

Depending on your needs... I have found Quicken Essentials meets all my needs and I am more than happy with the Program.

Jennifer,

I use Quicken 2007, which has been updated to the latest version Intuit supported. I note that you apparently can no longer buy Quicken 2007 but that a rewritten version of the application, called Quicken Essentials for Mac has taken its place. It seems to me that Quicken Essentials has all the features I use in Quicken 2007. The response posted here by Nick Andriash appears to confirm that Quicken Essentials does the basic checkbook job very well.

Note also that many, if not all, of the complaints about current versions of Quicken that you see posted in online comments are from users who need features more advanced than the "basic checkbook" features that the current version provides.

My 2 cents.
I used Quicken on Windows and found it too bulky. When I moved to Mac I installed Quicken Essentials and found it just right for me.
I pay my bills using my banks services and just needed a checkbook function to keep a record of the accounts I have. Essentials does that well and also does update my 401K and small stock holdings on-line. My checking and savings accounts are updated by me and that's the way I prefer.
Regards, Dave

Hello,

I use iBank from IGG Software and also use the iPod touch app for iBank that syncs with it. I love it.
Nothing is as good as Quicken, but I am very happy with iBank. It has excellent tech support also. I used Quicken for many years but got sick of the lack of Mac support.
I first replaced Quicken with SEE Finance and hated it.
If you have any specific needs or questions, I'll try to answer them for you about either software.
Thanks,
Carrie

Just to say that if you already have a spreadsheet app, you can easily set
up a sheet/table to do this.

Good job, submitting specs below. Thanks.
Mail/Preferences/Fonts & Colors, what did you choose to display?
This may not have anything to do with this.

Another suggestion: Make the User/Name/Library folder visible.
Open Terminal and insert:

chflags nohidden ~/Library/

Then give your password.
In User/Name/Library/ find the folder called MAIL.
Quit Apple Mail.
Drag the Mail folder to the desktop.
Start up Apple Mail again.

Is there any difference when you replace mis-spelled words?

If not, I've run out of ideas for now.
Also, you can drag the original folder back and REPLACE the new one.

I'm using a 3rd-party USB keyboard and it doesn't have a "FN" key on the bottom row.

I want to duplicate the function of the function keys on an Apple keyboard, particularly the volume functions.

I've searched the 'net and find inconclusive results.

I look in System Preferences > Keyboard and there is no Use all F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys option. I presume that this goes away depending on what keyboard is connected.

How can I do this?

Thanks,

Have you tried Keyboard Viewer to see which, if any, key is mapped as fn?
