KitApps, a Los Angeles based startup, is launching the industry's first mobile app wizard targeting small business owners. Unlike other app making tools that require users to start from scratch or piece together an app using disparate building blocks, KitApps offers a fully guided step-by-step wizard that cuts out any guesswork.
"My sister was opening a cafe and asked me if it would make sense to build a mobile app," says KitApps co-founder Michael Balyasny. "Hiring a developer would be too expensive, so I started researching DIY app making tools. All the products I found were either too hard to use, or didn't have interesting functionality that would make a mobile app worthwhile. As a small business you don't have a lot of time to invest in making an app, the process has to be simple and the value obvious."
KitApps is the first mobile app making product built like a wizard: users follow a pre-defined, step-by-step process that takes approximately 30 minutes to complete. At each step users are prompted for information about their business, and that content is then integrated into features that are tailored to their industry. Apps made using KitApps feature the client's brand prominently, but are consistent in their design for the benefit of end-users.
KitApps' first app template targets the event industry, giving planners a quick way to turn their event guide into an iPhone and Android app. Event planners can create an iPhone and Android app with a schedule, speaker and sponsor profiles, twitter feed, maps and more. Apps cost for $249/year, a price that includes unlimited downloads and content updates for those unexpected schedule changes.
KitApps has already been used to build dozens of event apps, and the company recently partnered with UFI, the Global Association for the Exhibition Industry, one of the largest trade associations in the world to build apps for their member events. The company plans to launch other templates in the coming months, including solutions for Restaurants, eCommerce, Education, Real Estate and other industry verticals.
KitApps was founded by Michael Balyasny and Artyom Yaremchuk two friends living on opposite sides of the globe - Michael in the Los Angeles and Artyom in Kiev, Ukraine. "Michael and I had experience working together on smaller projects, we get along really well, so it felt right to work on something more substantial despite the distance between us," says Artyom. The majority of the team is in Ukraine, while Michael runs product management from the US.

A component in 5 CFI Tools aviation apps, the T&L App allows pilots to easily calculate takeoff and landing distances for their airplane based on the current conditions for the flight. The addition of the Grumman AA-5B Tiger, Cessna Skyhawk 172-M and Piper PA-28R-201T Turbo Arrow III brings to 25 the number of aviation aircraft now supported by the T&L App.
Herndon, Virginia - CFI Tools announced today the latest upgrade to the Takeoff & Landing App. The T&L App allows pilots to easily calculate takeoff and landing distances for their airplane based on the current conditions for the flight. This App is a component in 5 CFI Tools aviation Apps: iPad Preflight WX+ App, iPad/iPhone T&L App and Toolbox App, Android T&L App and Toolbox App and the Windows WxCheck App.
To make this process easier the T&L App downloads the current weather conditions from the National Weather Service (NWS) and combines it with airport and airplane data to make the calculations. This aviation weather data, known as a METAR, is the standard weather report supplied by thousands of airports worldwide.
Pilots are required by FAA regulation to calculate expected takeoff and landing distances for each flight. These calculations require current weather reports including temperature, wind direction and speed and air pressure. The T&L App gathers this information from internet sources as and uses it with generic guidance from airplane owner's handbooks to make the calculations. With this information it makes a useful training device for pilots who must make these calculations.
