Good advice of course. I should have stated I have tried the companion computers on a third adapter, and
that works fine. So that points to the adapters, Then I tried both suspect adapters on a known-good computer; neither one works. So I'm quite sure the problem is with the adapters. I live far out in the wilds of North Dakota,
far from the nearest Genius Bar. Thought I might run into someone here who has been through this before ..

It may not be the electronics that is bad, but the electricity.
Check the plug and wall sockets. Are they bent? Are they making good connections? Is the wall socket in good condition or is it loose? Is the wall socket what an electrician would call half-hot or switched?
Try flexing the cable at both ends. The stress protection at either end could be bad.
We all sometimes over think problems, and forget to check the basics.

they are supposed to - not stuck somehow. The problem is that when I plug in an adapter to start battery charging, nothing happens. No light, either green or orange), just nothing.....
Anyone been through this before, and can offer some advice? I am skilled with electronics,
so can open up the adapter if necessary, but thought I would ask first.......
Thank you.

Sometimes you can get them pretty cheep on eBay. I think that is the best way. Presumably, if you had a schematic, you could rig up some 3rd party power supply with your cable, but that is probably not worth the hassle.

I'm wondering the same thing, with my early 2009 model macbook pro. I guess we'll have to wait until fall to see.

Is this the next release of OS X (10.9)? If so, what's the new theme (if not cats)?

Yeap, you got it. I guess you missed the part of the title that says, OS X (Mavericks), and the keynote from the WWDC today or the various pages on apple.com.
Yeap, they ran out of big cats for the theme. If you want to figure out the new theme, watch the first part of the keynote. Hint, it is not old TV shows.

And the end of story is that the second tech finally, after a couple more hours (techs at the house from 9:30 AM to 6PM), decided that I'm just a wee tad out of range for the high speed DSL. He advised me to downsize the speed. I called ATT and got that done, saved a bit of money - not a lot - and they did what they do and I'm now getting a lower speed DSL but it seems to come in a bit faster. That was a long tiring weekend!

Hi All,
My thoughts is:
1.we can no longer buy cheaper hard drive from market and upgrade
2.Video / Audio editors who invested on PCI based capture cards are in big trouble
3. People connecting to fiber storage will be in trouble
4. From the picture it seems only one hard drive can be installed so no more RAID
5. If only AMD card is the only video compatible then no more mercury engine (in long run it will change but people will curse)
I spoke to friend in TV station and almost all of them mentioned the same i have mentioned above.
Regards
Imran

Imran, with respect, no no no no and no.
I think that perhaps you have missed the point of the speed of
Thunderbolt 2 technology and the speed increases of what's inside this
new tower.
1. You will be able to buy dozens of cheap external hard drives and
connect them. I already do this via eSATA PCIe cards on my old MacPro.
2. Video / Audio editor will get a card cage. This is also called a
PCIe Card Expansion Chassis. These have existed for years but a new
one would be via Thunderbolt 2. It's an external box, connected via
Thunderbolt 2 cable, with slots for PCIe capture cards and other PCIe
cards like my eSATA cards.
3. Fiber storage? Don't know but there may be a Thunderbolt 2 adapter
available??
4. Thunderbolt 2 for RAID should be very easy and very fast. I
already do Mirrored RAID via Ethernet on my old MacPro.
Six Thunderbolt 2 ports on three busses. Apple says this allows for
connection of up to 36 very fast peripherals with each port support up
to 6 devices. At 20 gbps this is faster than the current internal PCIe
card slots/cards and according to a review up to 25 times faster than
FireWire 800.
Sonnet already sells Thunderbolt expansion chassis boxes.
<http://www.sonnettech.com/product/thunderbolt/ >
5. AMD card? I quote from yesterday's MacWorld review of this new
MacPro:
"AMD FirePro workstation GPU with up to 6GB of dedicated VRAM. Apple
says those two GPUs offer up to 7 teraflops of performance¡½compared to
2.7 teraflops for the current Mac Pro¡½and can drive not one, not two,
but three 4K-resolution (3840- by 2160-pixel) displays."
Plus plug in a display to an external graphics card in a card cage.
I think there are several MAJOR speed increases that are being missed
by some folks.
A. PCI Express Flash storage. Greatly faster than current SATA flash
SSDs.
B. RAM upgraded to 4 channel DDR# at 1866 MHz and 60 GB per second
memory band which is twice the current MacPro.
C. New Intel Xeon E5 processors that Apple claims are up to twice as
fast as current MacPro Xeon processors.
D. Flash Storage card is customer removable and upgradable according
to MacWorld review.

Dear Denver,
I agree with you and i was suggesting the same to my friends.
But to upgrade the default hard drive currently was cheaper , with flash it will be expensive.
As for the AMD card again agree with you but people depending on nvidia's mercury engine and cuda calculation will have trouble.
by RAID i meant RAID 5 in current MacPro.
Anyways certain things have to be given up to keep up with technology.

Here's an update on my webcam situation:
I bought the Logitech C615 webcam, which turned out to be
plug-and-play compatible with Mountain Lion, then added the Mactaris
Webcam Settings software from the App store.
It works with all the webcam-related software, apart from some audio
garbling in Photo Booth.
I've uploaded a thirty-second video of my first impressions at

regards,
Ian

Now M$ Office apps all complain has to be reinstalled.
I had to buy M$Office 2011 online when OSX upgrade quarantined all 32bit apps.
I do not see an installer and am afraid I will be gouged again if I go to the M$ site to reinstall.
Has anyone had to do this?
Without additional cost to M$?
