Ryan, that worked! I turned on calendars in iCloud and the 'sync' option appeared. It was set for 1 month so i changed it to 'all events'. Now all the events are available in my calendar.

So there must be some iCloud activity occurring even though calendars was not enabled? Not sure I understand that 'feature'! I'm wondering if I turn off calendars it will remain set to 'all events' or if it will revert to a default.
