SCSC Releases Phoenix for the Mac OS X Operating System - Published on 06/21/13

Virginia based Software and Computer System Company, LLC has released Phoenix for the Mac OS X operating system. Phoenix is an operating system tool that allows the user to create emergency boot volumes, clone volumes, and convert a data disk into a bootable drive with a new OS installation. Incredibly easy to use, Phoenix is offered as a standalone product and will now be included as a standard tool in the company's Scannerz product line.
Reston, Virginia - Software and Computer Systems Company, LLC, (SCSC) has released Phoenix for the Mac OS X Operating System. Phoenix is an operating system tool that allows the user to create emergency boot volumes, copy entire volumes, overlay the operating system onto a data-only disk converting it to a bootable volume, and re-install the operating system onto a new drive if needed.
"Phoenix creates two types of copies called a Phoenix Boot Volume and a standard volume copy," stated Bill Wagner, the owner of the company. "The Phoenix Boot Volume is a unique type of copy because it extracts the core operating system from a users drive and installs only that on the target volume. What the end user ends up with appears to be a completely new OS installation that they can use to host testing and diagnostic software, perform other copies, perform maintenance and repair operations between different volumes, and in the case of emergencies, actually serve as installation media. The volume copy is really nothing more than a simple volume copy from one drive to another just like those available with other drive cloning tools. The product is incredibly easy to use."
"We came up with the tool primarily so users could use it to host our Scannerz line of system and hard drive testing tools, but it's versatile enough that it can be used for a host of different tasks. For example, if a user has a system with an optical drive and the optical drive has failed, they can actually use Phoenix to create their own dedicated version of install media and use it instead of needing to repair the optical drive. The product will be included in all versions of Scannerz with FSE or FSE-Lite, but it can be purchased as a standalone product as well."
SCSC has issued cautionary information about attempting to use the product for bootlegging operating systems on their web site. The tool will not only copy the core operating system, it will also copy system information, hardware information, registration information, and some keychain information that will make the copies made by Phoenix unique to the system.

SCSC has indicated that the price for the standalone version of Phoenix is $13.95 (USD). The tool is now a standard part of both the Scannerz with FSE and Scannerz with FSE-Lite packages.

The game debuted in the iTunes App Store in February. The initial release has been enthusiastically received by reviewers and players, as it draws players into a story where they struggle to survive in a post-apocalyptic version of the world around them. Survivor Z combines interactive fiction with a game engine for mobile devices.
Portland, Oregon - Mongadillo Studios Inc. announces that Survivor Z will be available Free starting June 21 until July 1st, when it returns to its regular price of $1.99 USD. The game debuted in the iTunes App Store in February. The initial release has been enthusiastically received by reviewers and players, as it draws players into a story where they struggle to survive in a post-apocalyptic version of the world around them. Survivor Z combines interactive fiction with a game engine for mobile devices.
The game begins when the virus outbreak reaches critical levels, and you are challenged to make your way home from work amid the chaos. In an illustrated text adventure similar to classic games like Zork and Adventureland. Once you survive the many dangers and obstacles along the way and make it safely into your bunker, you find that this is only the beginning. After running low on food and water, you emerge into a drastically changed world where familiar places are now desolate ruins.
At this point Survivor Z blows open, combining interactive fiction with a game engine for mobile devices to allow you to explore a blasted wasteland version of your everyday surroundings. While waiting in an airport, on your lunch break, or on a walk, you can scavenge the area for useful items like crowbars, shotguns or canned food. Danger lurks around every corner, with infected hordes, rival survivors, and bloodthirsty bandits eager to kill for a few bites of food or flesh. Certain locations will launch deep and complex adventures in which you have multiple choices at every step of the way about how to use your inventory, recruit allies, and explore the ruins, with more encounters being added regularly.
When asked how long the production cycle for new content will last, creator Ed Anderson replied, "This game will continue to grow as long as players continue to play." Survivor Z has just released its fifth update, version 2.1, with new features such as Player Versus Player expected by July.

Started in 2010 as an awarded interactive music-theoretical exhibit in Math-Advanture-Land Dresden, Germany, the MIDI SolFa Mode-Go-Round app aims to be both an entertaining musical instrument, a medium to illustrate music theoretical topics and a tool for practicing musicians.

The app has a spiral keyboard with 7 keys per octave. Its design and its transformations are based on recent mathematical music theory insights into diatonic scales. Users can play diatonic melodies and must explicitly change tonic and mode. Thereby, they get a feeling for the seven modes and learn modulation. The new version offers a more precisely articulated solmization voice, support for arbitrary instrument sounds and many useful tools for practicing musicians. The app shows MIDI notes on the keyboard and offers simple multitrack MIDI recording and playback. Users can play back a MIDI file and highlight parts to understand and practice a voice in a polyphonic piece: For each MIDI channel, they can change the instrument sound, mix it freely with the solmization sound and toggle note display. There is a growing number of online-tutorials containing musical excerpts as downloadable MIDI-files, that allow to study modulations, voice leading patterns and other music theoretical topics.
An entertaining new feature is the canon generator: Users can interactively learn to improvise canon-melodies - a traditional element in Renaissance musicianship. The user specifies temporal and diatonic offsets of the imitating voices and plays the lead melody. The app plays the imitations note-by-note and shows implied notes and admissible continuations of the lead melody. Beginners and advanced users have plenty of options to practice imitation and counterpoint.

The Vitamins & Nutrients app doesn't simply list the information. It also makes it easy to use the data to some handy additional functions. It's easily possible to sort foods according to certain nutritional characteristics. In this way you can quickly find and identify foods with the highest calcium content, or fruits with the highest vitamin-C level.
Alternatively you can use the 'locating by means of criteria' function. This allows you to create your own criteria, according to which the relevant foodstuffs will appear in a listed format. So for example, you could search for foods rich in calcium and magnesium but low in cholesterol.
The search criteria can be combined with one another, as well as be used with a certain group of food or indeed all foodstuffs. Meat, fish, eggs and milk can all be excluded according to personal preference.

The leading iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch dictionary for bi-directional translation between English and Tamil now contains an extended dictionary. Lead programmer Mahmud Ahsan said, "Now that the dictionary is complete with over 51,000 Tamil words, both students and travelers can use Tamil Dictionary to translate nearly anything from Tamil into English or vice versa. Over 80 million people speak Tamil, and it is my hope that this dictionary will make communication between Tamil speakers and English speakers easier than ever before."
The new keyboard toggle in Tamil Dictionary version 8.2 makes it trivially easy to look up written Tamil words and find their English translations. "Wikipedia lists Tamil script as one of the most popular writing systems in the world," continues Mr. Ahsan, "so it was important for us to help users look up words quickly without having to transliterate them into Latin [English] characters first."
Students in particular will appreciate the addition of the Word Fight Multiplayer game into Tamil Dictionary 8.2. The game lets both Tamil-speaking students learning English and English-speaking students learning Tamil compete against other students in an online vocabulary game. Whoever can translate the most words first wins, creating an easy and fun way to help students improve their translation skills.
The new version continues to include popular features from previous versions:

Tamil Dictionary's core translation function works offline, so travelers don't need to worry about being unable to communicate. But when the user's device is online, several extra features become available, such as an online scoring system which helps students earn Achievements for using app features, plus a vocabulary Leaderboard which rewards the most effective students.
English words link to their Wiktionary page to help users discover the history behind words, and built-in app connections let users send their translations to other apps on their device, such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Email, and SMS.
All current iPhones, iPads, and iPod touches are supported. Devices with a Retina display will find Tamil Dictionary automatically optimizes itself for high-resolution text display so users don't need to squint.

The focus of the app is purely on location, if you're in Austin, chances are you only want to see deals in Austin. Everyone is able to expand to new cities and track as many others as you want. Since no two restaurants or bars are the same and they have the ability to customize their Secret Happy Hour however they see fit, no two Secret Happy Hours will be the same.
We are planning to launch the app November of 2013. Until then we will br providing deals via our Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram so be sure and follow us to get early access to the app!
