Not so sure how rare it is. I also have Comcast cable and for many years I had a Comcast-supplied Motorola cable modem that did not include a router. (I supplied my own.)

Do you have any other wireless device in the home—iPhone, iPad, wireless printer, etc.?
If the answer is yes: A router will allow all of those devices to connect to the Internet.
If the answer is no: You don't need a router.
If you are worried about security, use the built-in FireWall:
System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Firewall > Turn On Firewall
If you are paranoid about security, use the built-in FileVault:
System Preferences > Security & Privacy > FileVault > Turn On FileVault (read the warning.)

The second question requires a somewhat detailed answer, but this a topic
that's hard to explain in simple terms. I'm sure we can do that, if you
give us a chance.

Rare? Since late eighties, I've never used a router to defend anything at home. I once had two PC's run from a broadcaster off the cable modem, but my Mac was then, as now, always directly connected to the cable modem. The PC's my kids always wanted, immediately got viruses upon installation. Installed PC protection crap, Norton's PC Virus Crap or whatever they called it, but my Mac w it's software firewall never gave me problems since the mid-eighties.
I never hear of any Mac users on this list getting hit with anything if their software firewall is up. Or maybe I am missing the conversations if they actually happen.

Howdy.
The iOS app seems to work very much like the OS X app.
I've only had one glitch since December 2012 and I think it was a
temporary pause in updating new items on the iPhone app (but not on the
iPad app for some reason) due to a possible update in the Dropbox app.
I just went into the 1Password prefs on iPhone and reconnected to
Dropbox and it immediately updated.
BTW, I think the info provided by 1Password maker on the iOS app is a
bit confusing regarding how to install it on more than one iOS device.
But one payment of the iOS app seems to work for it being on multiple
iOS devices.

How do you get around having a strong master password to enter on the phone? It's easy enough for me to key mine in on the computer but it would be very difficult on the phone, especially if I had to do it often.

The main difference is that the nature of Safari in iOS (sandboxing, I think) doesn't let 1Password integrate with the browser as seamlessly as on the Mac (no 1Password menubar icon in Mobile Safari).
On the other hand, 1Password in iOS has a built-in browser which you can activate by tapping on a URL in the logins section, and when it goes there and logs you in, you can then open that page *in* Safari.

I worked out a password I could remember easily, letters and numbers, 13-characters, that would be meaningless to anyone but myself and my siblings.

I use a complex password but I think if you practice doing it it gets faster and easier and you get more accurate over time

Dave, better make sure the airports you will be using have the ability to use a digital boarding pass. I was going to try that on my last trip, until I found out the airport did the have the ability, in Bismark, ND.

Has anyone here taken a shot at the new 960GB M500 SSD from Crucial? While still not cheap, it's not much more costly than many 500GB drives at $600. I just got mine Friday and have had some issues with it...wondering if anyone else uses it with a Mac?
Thanks,

Where are you shopping for regular 500Gb hard drives that cost nearly
$600? Try as I might, I can't find any over $300, and many are under
$100. That is a very large difference to me.
