Hi,

Just out of curiosity what's wrong with double side printing, and the
paper saving that gives ? I can undertand the need for one page per
side, to see each page 'full sized', but what is the need for one side
printed, as opposed to doubled sided and a factor 2 in paper saved ?
Just curious as the the use case I am not seeing ;)

I don't have a presets button. I don't have that option on any of the printers, actually.
Where did you find that?

Thanks!

I don't mind double sided - but we cannot submit documents to the court that are double sided. (I work at a law firm.)

When I click Command Print (or File>Print), a printer page displays & the Preset option is immediately under the box that offers the choice of printers installed. I use a Samsung & a Canon so maybe my options differ from yours.

Ah, yes!! That's where I change things. In the second drop down box for presets is where I have to go in and change it each time I print (to 1 side printing). It doesn't "save" after I change it though. Is there a way to tell it to set my changes as default?

Thanks!

Set it up as a "Custom" setting with a meaningful name.

Dumb question, I think…..
Once I go in and change the settings to how I need them how do find the "custom" setting option to save it?

Thanks!

OK ... I would ask why ? Are lawyers incapable of turning a piece of paper over to read the other side, but as I have 3 lawyers as brothers/sisters(-in-law) am I also aware there is point in asking ;)

Chris,

Trim your posts. It makes it hard to quickly fine your reply.

Courts here in the US do not allow two-sided documents, because that is their rules.

Do the courts in the UK still require the wearing of wigs in court? If so that is their rules.

Just saying its 'the rule' doesn't really explain why, or justify it as
making any sense (I'm applying this to both the comments above, although
if I felt inclined I could argue the second is a 'tradition' and not a
rule, which then allows it to be stupid, as long as it isn't doing any
harm, such as the environment impact of doubling the amount of paper
needed to print a document).

Anyway, this is very OT so lets stop here ;)

Answering my own question, here is the procedure for changing the login password for a user under Mountain Lion (may also work for Lioin):

Boot ML with Cmd-R keys pressed (keep holding them until you see the globe image and a progress bar appear). This boots the Recover image from over the Internet.

Once you see the window on the screen showing your repair & recovery options, ignore those and launch Terminal from under the Utilities menu.

In Terminal type:

changepassword

and press the Return key. The Change Password application opens.

Choose the user for which you want to change the password and enter the new password twice.

Click the Change button.

Quit the Change Password application.

Quit the Terminal application.

Choose Startup Disk from the Apple menu. Choose the boot drive on which you just changed the user's password.

Click "Restart".

When the login screen presents itself, enter the new password.

Life is good again.

I would like to find a way or a simple app that will allow
me to monitor sound coming into my iPod Touch
via the Built-In microphone

I've downloaded and tried apps like iTalk Recorder,
Recorder Plus and Instant Audio Recorder, but none
will allow me to hear real time mic audio with headphones

I recently inherited an old school portable MiniDisc recorder (Sony MZN-505)
and a bunch of blank discs. The MD has a LINE IN, but no powered MIC IN.
I thought it would be interesting to use my iPod as a kind
of primitive microphone and simply direct audio from the
iPod headphone jack into the MD recorder
and record on the MD. Maybe there's a simpler
way to do all of us

Also, does anyone have experience
with any of the iRig / iPod amp products?

Hope this isn't too off topic - thanks!

I believe once you plug something into the audio jack, both the speaker and the microphone are disconnected. So by connecting the iPod to the recorder, you have disabled the iPod mic, and there is no jack to plug another. You can get a splitter for the stereo jack, then it only acts as a pass-thru. Nothing gained, except a lot of complications and extra hardware.

I suggest you get just a simple microphone.
