Most folks who have opined in print seem to go for cases that are also backup batteries. Personally, I like New Trent, and bought one of their (earlier, smaller) units years ago.

I've been seeing sale offers from them for that model PLUS a smaller one for bargain rates.

The IMP120 will recharge an iPhone AND an iPad more than once.

I always buy mophie. They are more expensive but I have never had an issues and when I broke the one on my iphone 4 they sent me a replacement for free (under warranty)

I had never heard of New Trent before, but apparently Jim is happy with it, after having it several years

I have used one from Socket for years. It is usually offered for commercial work, that consumer. It was really purchased for charging other small electronics. I usually purchase a Mophie case for iPhone use, but it is nice to be able to recharge other devices.

BTW, thanks, I haven't checked the charge on the Socket in ages and it needed charging.

Thanks again, Dave. Did not realize ClicktoFlash has it's
own preference settings. Inserted the www address for
a site I want CTF turned off, and worked perfectly.

Appreciate the info. jr

Doesn't the extension allow you to turn it off in Safari Preferences? Pne hotkey and a couple of clicks.

See, the Book drive was used on a Windows XP, now deceased (RIP). It is encrypted, and it has hundreds of photos on it that I can't get off. Neither can Staples techs. So useless to me. The Mac doesn't read the drive, either.

My new Mac has its own backup that is connected all the time. I am hoping to avoid the above problem and would like to learn how to drag and drop photos to the Mac backup to avoid just relying on the encrypted backup. (Once burned, twice shy.) The Stapes techs showed me how to drag and drop on my Windows 7 with its own backup. That way I have the continuous backup plus the photos in another file that I can access.
On the Mac, do I drag and drop iPhoto? How is it done?
Thanks.

If it's encrypted how do you drag and drop anything from it?

On your iMac, go to System Prefs/Time Machine/Turn ON/Add (+) the WD HD as the back up drive. Close System Prefs.

Unless you can drag the old iPhoto Database file (User/Pictures/iPhoto Library) from your old encrypted drive, just start using iPhoto on your iMac. Your new library will begin when you start up iPhoto. Sorry but all your old images are lost unless you can find someone to open the old "Book" drive and find the "iPhoto Library" file.

Forget Drag and Drop backing up anything.
Tell Time Machine to backup you main hard drive
to the external hard drive.
If you do that, you can forget drag and drop.
Drag and drop is manual.
Time machine is automatic.
DO NOT encrypt the Time Machine backups.
You will be offered the choice in TM window.
DO NOT, unless you understand how to retrieve
the data.

Do not throw your old "Book" drive away.
Someone on the internet that is reputable
might be able to recover all your old photos.

So, you have an old backup drive for your PC, that PC has died, and you
cannot access the files on the backup? What sort of backup was it? Would
you have been able to use it to restore your files if had bought another
PC?

The only thing apple hasn't refreshed annually is the Mac Pro so I am 99% sure they will refresh iphone iPad iPod iMac MacBook Pro and minis by end of year.

If history holds there should be an announcement mid to end of September.

I think people will stay away in droves, for precisely the the reasons everyone has stated.

1- the iPhone is a horrible platform compared to the iPad
2- it requires a $100/yr MS Office 365 license

They could not have tried harder to fail with this launch.

Microsoft has released Office for iPhone.

I'm not sure of the exact name.

Mixed reviews. One reviewer said editing an Excel spreadsheet was a painful experience.

Only for iPhone and not for iPad following Micro$loth's usual inverted logic. .

Any one going to try it?

For the $100/yr you get the whole Office 2011 suite to install on up to 5 computers, either Mac or Windows plus the iPhone app. Not for me a good deal as I have Office 2008 for Mac and that is enough and I dread to think how bad editing one of my larger spreadsheets would be on an iPhone. For families though, it is an extremely good deal. Let's not allow our dislike of Microsoft to cloud (pun intended) our judgement.

So it is Yahoo's fault, according to the Apple tech. And Yahoo has to come up with the solution.

Even if it is an e-ddress for your business, I suggest moving away from it. You are just adding another layer to your communications, and that layer is known to be more faulty than most.

Just my opinion.

The Apple email tech had the solution. I have to call up that email account via Safari and then re-enter the PW. Apparently it is a fluke with Yahoo that Yahoo is working to solve. OS 10.8 includes built-in speech-to-text. I believe it uses the same Nuance technology as Dragon Express.

The program costs $50.

I would like to correct myself. You are correct I found that the dictation will work e.g. into the mail program into new message. I gather your voice words are transmitted to Apple and come back as digital text - with a time lag. Apple certainly doesn't give you any info on this - letting you figure it out for yourself.
