Re: some emails won't send

Every time this has happened to me on Earthlink there was a problem with the email address sending to. Usually it contained a < at the start of the name of the person being sent to but no > after and before the actual email address. Look at the message you are trying to send using View > Message > Raw Source to make sure the addresses to are correctly formatted.

Then it shows a box with the 3 email addresses (not the actual email, but two lines say Earthlink and the 3rd line shows Comcast) and it has a box saying "Edit SMTP Server List" (and I have no idea what this is. At the bottom of the message it has on the left "edit message" and in the middle it says Try Later and on the right is says Try with Selected Server. If you feel it is important to get rid of the duplicate (which I have as well), click on the lock in the lower right corner of the info window, enter your admin user password, highlight one of the everyones, and click <-> to delete it.

Hm, such an "advanced problem" that a Google search answered it for you?
Have you NOTICED the long threads of people helping when someone has an actual "advanced" problem?

Also, you have kind of worn out your welcome here.

Right-click and Control-click ARE the same. When I right-click on the file in my Dropbox, I get the option to "Download linked file." You don't?

Interesting. I used a links us for several years. when i implemented password protection on the network, none of my macs would talk to the router. the upshot is that linksys does not play nice with the macs. i switched to an apple airport extreme router. it plays nice with my pcs. no problems what so ever after making the router switch.

Hi Vicki---
Answer to your question...yes.
I reset my router completely (only way I could get rid of the password) and the iPad connects no problem.
Any ideas on why this would be?
Security settings? I've heard WPA2 doesn't play nicely all the time....wouldn't know what else to set it to though.
As before, everything connects now but again, I 'should' have a password.

Thanks!
Jeff

Well at least it's narrowed down to the password. And I agree that you do need to have your network password protected. When I was having problems connecting, I believe it had something to do with the settings - WPA, etc. Try each of the different settings (on the iPad) and see if one of them works.

I don't know if this will help but if I recall correctly someone in this thread mention having a Linksys WRT160N. That's what I have also and I think I had a problem when I first started using an iPad. I don't remember what it was but it was something to do with the password.
I have the WRT160N set up as "WPA2Personal" and my password consist of only numbers and lower chase ( most of my passwords have symbols, numbers and low and uppercase, but I think for the iPad made an exception.
BTW I have used Linksys Wifi-routers for about 10 years without a problem, both macs and win.

I don't believe you have mentioned what KIND of security your router is set to use. If it's WEP, maybe you need a 13-digit password. Here's a little bit about router setup:
<http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/30791-43-forgotten-wireless-digit-password>

I don't know much about this stuff so this is a wild guess, but it wouldn't hurt to try it.

Randy,

Except that Apple hasn't expressed any intention of going that far.

So it sounds like paranoia to me.

I don't know much about Mountain Lion yet. Just what is on Apple's
Web site:
http://www.apple.com/macosx/mountain-lion/
So far I don't see anything new that is a big deal one way or
another. Better integration between a Mac, an iPad, and an iPhone is
nice. The few new little apps are nice (but I already have third
party software that probably does a better job.)
We'll know a lot more after WWDC, I suspect.

If you would like to learn to use the Terminal, and you'd like to do
so without the very real possibility of damaging anything, this free
program is ideal:

CLIX (free)

Doesn't ask for password

Posted by: "joan05061" jsax@me.com   joan05061

I set up my iMac to ask for my password when the computer is turned on, but lately when I turn on the computer, it just opens without asking for a password. I am running Lion 7.4 and I went to System Preferences to Users and Groups, but there doesn't seem to be any option to require a password. Can anyone tell me what I have to do to reinstall that requirement?

Joan in Vermont where it is glorious today (fingers crossed that it doesn't pour when I write this, though it makes typing hard).

Howdy Joan in Vermont.

System Preferences > Users & Groups

1. Click the gold padlock to unlock the Login Options (house icon)
item. Key in your Admin user account password (Authentic).

2. Click House icon Login Options. NOTE. Not the same as Login Items
on the tab next to Password.

3. Look at right side panel and click on Automatic Login popup menu.

4. Choices are to turn Automatic Login off, or pick your Admin user
account short name.

5. Note the check box options below Automatic login popup menu.

If you have more than one user account being used, consider checking on
Show fast user switching menu. This gives you a menu at far right on
main Menu bar so you can use it to switch between two logged in user
accounts (password still required).

6. Click padlock to relock your Login Options

That should do the trick and next time you restart you should be asked
to key in your password.
