Microsoft unveils its own tablet: the Surface Posted: 18 Jun 2012 04:41 PM PDT
We had a hunch that Microsoft’s media event today would have something to do with a tablet, and it looks like we were right. The Windows-makers have just unveiled a new slate called the Microsoft Surface. Described as a “tablet that’s a great PC, and a PC that’s a great tablet,” the Surface looks to be much more than an iPad competitor. It has a 10.6-inch display, magnesium casing, and weighs in at just 1.5 pounds…(...) "Microsoft unveils its own tablet: the Surface" is an article by iDownloadBlog.com. |
Why you shouldn’t count Apple’s Maps out just yet Posted: 18 Jun 2012 03:32 PM PDT The iOS 6 portion of Apple’s WWDC keynote last week was headlined by its all new mapping software. As predicted, the company unveiled a completely rebuilt Maps application with 3D city views and other features. The app is available in the recently-released iOS 6 beta, and so far, it has yet to impress. On top of missing popular features like Street View and transit directions, it also appears to be missing a ton of street data. But don’t count Apple’s Maps out just yet…(...) Sparrow for iPhone updated with POP email support Posted: 18 Jun 2012 12:37 PM PDT Sparrow for iPhone debuted earlier this year as one of the first third-party email clients to ever land in the App Store. While it’s received a lot of praise for its UI, it continues to be criticized for its lack of features. The jailbreak community has managed to help out with that a bit. But thanks to today’s update, stock iPhone users can too cross a major feature off their wish lists. Sparrow 1.3 now supports POP email accounts…(...) More details surface on Siri’s Eyes Free feature Posted: 18 Jun 2012 11:51 AM PDT As Scott Forstall rattled off a list of Siri’s new capabilities in iOS 6, there was one particular feature that really stood out: Eyes Free. Apple will be teaming up with auto-makers to take its digital assistant act on the road. But outside of a list of manufacturing partners, and a brief explanation of how Eyes Free will work, not much else has been said about the new feature. How will it be implemented? And when can we expect to see it?(...) "More details surface on Siri’s Eyes Free feature" is an article by iDownloadBlog.com. |

Apple begins removing traces of upcoming products from iOS Posted: 18 Jun 2012 10:12 AM PDT It looks like Tim Cook wasn’t joking underscoring Apple would “double down on secrecy” during his fireside chat with Walt Mossberg and Kara Swisher at the D10: All Things D conference. As noted by TUAW, the latest beta of iOS 6 lacks certain references to future Apple devices that have long been the staple of the rumor mill’s crystal ball peering. Not like this changes anything, mind you…(...) "Apple begins removing traces of upcoming products from iOS" is an article by iDownloadBlog.com. |
Survey confirms: devs prefer iOS over Android Posted: 18 Jun 2012 09:13 AM PDT Despite what Google’s Eric Schmidt would have you believe, developers still prefer Apple’s iOS platform over any other mobile operating system. More importantly, the vast majority of programmers don’t think a rumored introduction of a taller iPhone this fall will complicate their life as adapting their apps to a larger canvas shouldn’t be a biggie…(...) How to add download percentages to app installs Posted: 18 Jun 2012 08:44 AM PDT AppCent is a new jailbreak tweak that adds a percentage value beneath the app currently being installed on your iOS device. It’s a very simple tweak, and for smaller sized apps you probably won’t derive much value, but it’s nice to have for larger apps that take a long time to download. Although a progress bar indicating your download percentage already exists in iOS, there’s something to be said for having actual numerical values that you can see and identify with…(...) Display Recorder hits App Store, records your device screen in real time Posted: 18 Jun 2012 08:24 AM PDT You’ll wanna act on this one right now. Display Recorder, an app by Bugun Software which lets you record your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad screen in real time, has just hit the App Store, priced at two bucks a pop (not to be confused with Ryan Petrich’s app of the same name available for jailbroken devices). If I were you, I’d act now: Apple’s likely to pull Display Recorder at a moment’s notice…(...)
