I just happened to check this out for another forum.

Every Mac Pro, every Macbook Air, every Macbook, Macbook Pro, and iMac since about 9,10,11/2006, and every Mac Mini since 8/2007 can boot into 64-bit.

Yes you can go from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion with no Problems. I am
running Developer Pre View Of Mountain Lion And it runs better on Max Out
Ram in your Computer.

I compared the published hardware specs for Mountain Lion and Lion and ML appears to require newer hardware.

If in the *real world* Mountain Lion will run on any Mac that already runs Lion then this will be a very good thing.

Apologies if this has been discussed here already.

With Mountain Lion coming, some people may need to move to Lion sooner than later because their hardware may not run Mountain Lion. Considering the importance of iCloud this could be a BIG deal.

Example: If you go to buy Lion in the Mac App Store for incompatible hardware it will not let you.

After July 19th: If you go to buy Lion for compatible hardware **after** Mountain Lion ships, might they offer to install Lion instead?

The "Spotlight" search kernel is a fabulous resource.

However, many find it's front-end GUI to be a bit awkward and non-intuitive.

There are several third-party add-ons that make the front-end a bit easier to use but still take advantage of the search kernel.

I use "NotLight" by Matt Neuburg. Available (free) at:

http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/20543/notlight

There are others that you might try.

Good luck!

Here is what I get on the first level search for Pages docs:

I understand your point. I think it is a good question.

You are absolutely right. Thanks for mentioning this. With all kinds of tricks its amazing how much one can do with Spotlight. -- But one should keep in mind that there are some minor differences between Spotlight in Lion, Snow Leopard and Tiger. At least some features that did not work for me in earlier versions are now working like a charm in OS 10.7.4.

VERY good! I forgot to mention "filename:" Thanks for adding this information. Very helpful indeed! With "filename:" we can search items in the folders I had previously excluded while doing normal search with Command + Space.

Todd, that was a good post and very helpful.

I followed "Method 1" as you outlined below, but added a few steps at the end.

1. I created a search, included "System" and also "Visible/Invisible" files.

2. I set it to search for File Name instead of Contents.

3. I removed my search word from the search window (so it would be blank) and "SAVED" the search as "Search incl System and Invisibles".

4. That added the saved search to my Sidebar so it is readily available, without having to go through multiple steps.

Now, if I ever need to do a search without exclusions, I just click on that and type my search phrase into the search window. Much more convenient. Still room for improvement and flexibility, but a definite step forward.

Thanks,

Lou

How do you find invisible files with NotLight?

Background "wallpaper"

In 10.7 Lion, click on "Mission Control" and take a look at the background "wallpaper."

It is a very nice dark grey linen look.

Where can I find that background to use as my standard desktop wallpaper?

Thanks!
