Where did you buy the audiobook?

If Amazon, you need a Kindle player. If Apple you will need the iBook player (either on a cell phone, or an iPad, but not a Mac).

What will your friend use to play the audiobook? CD player? iPad? Cellphone? Kindle?

I don't like any of them as you may have trouble keeping the scanner
straight over longer pages, resulting in off-square / skewed scans. Your
hand may be steadier, and some scanners may come with a guide. The
convenience may exceed the limitations of the device. Personal
preference is for sheet fed or flat-bed. If all you are scanning is
small clippings from magazines, etc., then perhaps one will suit your
purpose. OCR is sometimes offered with the scanner, and may be worth it
for that alone; but OCR works best when your text is in a straight line;
it's working hard enough to decipher the fonts to begin with. Do some
comparisons of the specs and what comes bundled with the scanner.

I bought one about a year ago after I sucombed to a presentation on a TV shopping channel. I had been thinking of getting one for a few years.

I wanted it to scan magazine pages and also book pages.

Overall I am disappointed. The image quality is OK but it takes too much time and effort to get a decent scan, especially from a book.

It now sits in a drawer. I find it easier, faster and better to use my flatbed scanner which does not resolve the book problem when scanning facing pages at the same time.

I tried artwork and photos to see what would happen. Basically useless.

Hi Gurus,

My mini-stack V3 Newer Technologies HD will not mount. I have reset the
pram 3 times to no avail. In the past when it wouldn't mount, resetting the
pram worked every time. Not now.

Other external devices will mount (pen drives, etc).

Any help/advice appreciated.

MBP (purchased in mid-2010, I think it's a 2009)
2.26GHz
Intel Core 2 Duo
4 GB memory

Thanks
hester

Could be a corrupted directory. Does the device show up in Disk Utility? If
so, try a repair disk on it.

I presume you got it from OWC?

Have you contacted them for help?

Hester, if an external HD will not mount, it may be that the bridge portion of the external HD is failing. That is the part that allows the HD talk to your network and computer.

If Jon's suggestion does not work, then follow Jim's and contact OWC, especially if it is still under warranty.

I don't think Hester mentioned which ports the drive has. If it has FW and
USB and will not mount using one, try the other.

BTW I've never heard of resetting the PRAM to fix this sort of problem. I'm
wondering why it worked.

Hi Jim,

Yes, I did contact them the last time this happened. They told me to reset the pram. Today I did that 3 times. Then I replied to the wrong email and said, after testing the socket with other external devices (pen drive and camera-thingy :)) it mounted.

Thanks for the help.

Thanks Jon,

Right after posting the query, I posted in response to the wrong message. Basically it mounted after I tested my pen-drive and another external device. So strange. If It happens again I'll try what you suggest, though the advice is way above my pay-grade.

Thank you for the reply.

Thanks Otto,

Well, when it happened before, OWC told me to do that. It always worked until today. Then after test out my other external devices (which mounted) the external HD did also (mount) and i was able to copy, etc. My Ext HD uses a USB port and I tried them both.

Thanks

Ha Ha Ha, I just tried my other external devices, then the HD again an it worked. Thanks for reading. But I am very confused.

If mounting an external HD is intermittent, it could also be a bad cable or loose connection. If it is not the cable then it probably means the bridge to the HD is failing.

Brent

PS

If you are getting lots of requests to re-enter the password, it may not be Mail.app or Earthstink that is failing, but the mail servers may be slow recognizing your password.

This is a frequent problem and was just dealt with here in another thread.

When you get the message asking for your password, try clicking Cancel. You can usually check for new messages again right away. The problem will probably occur again--just keep clicking Cancel when it does.

I have not been into my iTunes act. since last Oct. Needless to say the looks of it has changed. I just got a new iPhone 5 and wanted to transfer some of the music I had in my iTunes over to the phone. I did not even recognize iTunes. On the old iTunes it had an area that showed all the devices. I do not see that any more. I hooked up my iPhone it did something. But I still do not see how to copy over my music to the phone. Thanks for your help
