An equivalent 1000VA pure sinewave model to the one Randy suggests is only a few dollars more ($133 vs. $109):

You can also drag and drop a file right from iPhoto to your desktop and then attach the file to your email.

9600 with OS 9.2 was working.
Today: gong, gray screen, no icon, no "?".
I told owner to reset PRAM.
Other ideas?
Thanks
Dave

Do you have something else, other than its hard drive that can boot it? Such as a SCSI hard drive a CD or floppy.

Well…if there was a flashing "?", this might be easier. I guess, the first thing I would do would be to boot from a System disc, or another HD with a System.

When was the 9600 last working?
When was the last time the PRAM battery was checked?
A less likely possibility for not booting, is a bad connection to the RAM. It could just be loose, or there could be corrosion on the connections.
With no icon showing, how are the connections on the video card and video RAM? Doubtful, since the screen went to grey, but who knows.
How old is the HD? If it failed their should be a question mark or icon showing. Low probability for not booting in this way, and the first test needing some other equipment.
If it is DOA, then 15-16 years of service is not bad.

Howdy.
Could be all kinds of things.
Your message is unclear. Does your question mean you heard the POST
chime the gong? Or did not hear it?
It is possible that the little on board battery has died.
You could try the old double-boot. Boot once and if you only get the
gray screen see if you can remember the restart keyboard command. I
can't. That sometimes gets around the battery problem.
