The freezes started after installing Snow Leopard. Are you saying I'll lose my applications and then need to reinstall them?

I have had similar problems in the last few months, sometimes it just freezes and occasionally the screen goes blank (not black). I hold the power button in for some seconds to shut off and reboot without problem. I have intel iMac early 08 2.66 GHz, 4 MB Ram - tells me maximum - running 10.8.3 and with updated versions of software. Normally have only safari, mail and drop thing running. Occurs often in safari but I spend most of time with safari. Hard drive replaced two years ago.

I'm having a gmail problem that I can't solve. I am receiving the Yahoo email lists, but not mail sent only to me. I am also not receiving mail set to a group of customers. I've spent hours reading gmail's trouble shooting info and have checked for filter and forward problems as they suggest, but I don't use either filters or forward mail. At times, some personal email will download to my iPad, but no were else. I'm stymied and don't know where to turn for help. Any suggestions?

Do you possible have your account set to "POP" (only downloads one place
unless a specific setting is checked and isn't kept on server) instead of
the standard "IMAP" (downloads to all devices with the account and stored
on service until you delete)?

Are you using Apple Mail? Try sending a message from you and to you If you look under the Window drop down menu you can bring the activity menu forward and see if any problems are reported
You can also choose the connection doctor in Apple Mail to see if there are issued with the Gmail setup
Another thing to try is deleting and re-adding the gmail account
Sent from my iPhone. Some imagination reg

Howdy.
I'm fascinating by history and just came across a list of 10 apps that
have to do with historical and archeological themes.
I've been using a historical atlas app on my iPad with maps for
different parts of the world in different eras that's been quite
interesting and it's fun to know about these other apps.
Some cost and some are free.
List is found at the TechRadar.com site.

Howdy.
There are some stories floating around that Apple may roll out some
major changes to AppleCare warranty terms this coming fall.
This new AppleCare warranty may - stress on may and might and could -
change so one AppleCare warranty covers ALL of your Apple devices
instead of the current one warranty per device.
Other rumored changes may be to extend the current 90 days of free
support for new devices to one year.
And more changes could provide 24/7 support for Apple customers and
change the way broken devices are dealt with at each Apple Store by
repairing/replacing them in-store rather than sending them to a
different location.
So for those who like to buy the extra cost/extended period AppleCare
warranty be looking for possible changes.

Dan, interesting rumors. IF Apple should extend a warranty on all devices,
then I'd suspect one would have to list them, the date purchased, and the
cost of the warranty would be increased accordingly. I have AppleCare on my
iPhone 5 and MacBook Air, but I can't see Apple extending these two
warranties to cover a nine-year-old MacBook Pro (which is still working
great, BTW) and a couple of iPads without a significant increase in the
warranty cost. What would Apple do in this case? Send me an email saying I
could add these devices for "x" more money?
Nice daydreaming, Dan, but I just don't see it happening. Hope the rumors
are true, though...(grin)...Jim

Is the expectation that any such changes will be announced at the WWDC?
Also, thanks for your recent tip regarding HDMI cables. I ordered one for connecting my TiVo box & TV & would swear that my picture quality is improved.

There are several articles online about this that refer to an in-house
briefing for employees of Apple and that the changes may be done first
in the United States this fall and thereafter in other countries. No
other date rumors.

Nowadays, if you buy devices together that work together they are all covered under the same warranty. For example, you buy a Mac Mini and with it you buy a keyboard, mouse and monitor. If bought together, all are covered by the same AppleCare on the Mini for no added cost.
Obviously, I cannot read the mind of whoever put up the rumor, but I wonder if what is meant is that if you buy stuff TOGETHER it will all be covered together. For example, if you buy an iPhone and an iMac at the same time you might get a warranty price break????

Upgrade report:
The download went well, it took all night but was waiting for me in
the morning, having arrived before dawn.
I used the instructions in
http://www.macworld.com/article/1167855/installing_mountain_lion_what_you_need_to_know.html
and made a bootable install drive as
http://www.macworld.com/article/1167857/how_to_make_a_bootable_mountain_lion_install_drive.html
without any problems.
I soon got used to the upside-down scrolling. Checking the third-party
apps revealed a non-functional scanner (a Canon Lide 700F) - the
device scanned OK but the LEDs weren't lit. So I downloaded and
installed a new scanner driver from the Canon site. While I was there
I spotted an update to the Canon MP Navigator programme, so I trashed
the old one and downloaded the new version - which was where
Gatekeeper kicked in and stopped me installing it.
I restored the old MP Navigator app using Time Machine and it worked
OK. But I read up about Gatekeeper, so I trashed the old one again and
this time succeeded in downloading the new version using the
Control-Click.
So the whole process was very much less daunting than I had imagined -
very "Apple" in its simplicity. Thank you to those who advised me;
regards,
Ian
