Howdy.

There have been a lot of online news articles recently about iOS vs
Android and iPad vs Android tablet "shares."

Here's a recent one from Apple Insider

Apple's iPad dominates online shopping traffic & revenue generation

By Neil Hughes

Despite growing competition from other tablets, Apple's iPad still
accounts for a whopping 89.28 percent of e-commerce website traffic,
and also rakes in more money on a per-user basis than any other
platform."

In several of these surveys the Windows Surface tablets and Windows
Phone 8 smartphone didn't rise above the 1% level.

Microsoft is having serious problems with its tablet venture and is
seeing very slow sales. A recent ad by Microsoft used false
information about screen size and storage capacity and the lack of MS
Office for iPad. Since it's only Microsoft that can provide an Office
suite for iPad and hasn't done so this is a truly specious claim.
There are rumors that Microsoft has already developed the MS Office
suite for iPad but won't release it for iPad until it becomes clear
that Microsoft can't gain any significant market share for it's Surface
tablet pair of incompatible devices.

Sales of mobile hardware devices are seeing a vast lead by Apple in
profit per hardware device while the Android hardware area is seeing a
number of devices being sold at a loss to try to gain market share.
The recently failed Facebook Android phone began at $99.00 USD at ATT,
was rapidly reduced to $.99 (cents), and has been dropped. Amazon's
Kindle's are sold at a loss but make money through the purchase of
digital books.

One has to read this type of market survey carefully. The above Apple
insider charts start by showing that the iPad has 89.28% of tablet
website traffic. Read more to see that iOS (meaning iPad and iPhone)
and Android are closer in other types of online purchasing.

One of the big recent announcements impacting iOS in the USA market is
the official approval of the United States Department of Defense of iOS
devices for military purchasing and use. iOS already has a significant
level of use in military groups and the Pentagon (even in battlefield
use) but this makes it official and means Blackberry may see additional
erosion of market share. Because of Blackberry's proprietary type of
email that has been fairly secure in the past the Blackberry phones
have had a very large presence in US Government use in Washington, D.C.
in both the Executive Branch and the Legislative Branch. This share
has been dropping significantly. In recognition of this reality
Blackberry announced it is porting a formerly proprietary text
messaging service for use on iOS devices.

During the recent Senate Committee hearing where Apple's Tim Cook
testified about off shore income and tax rates almost the only question
that Senator John McCain asked was why were there so many frequent
updates for apps on his iPhone.

You can link to Google Calendar in OS X iCal/Calendar. Are you sure you
don't have Google Cal under Subscriptions if the sidebar? Where is the
error message coming from?

Does anyone know if there is there a decent and comparable iOS equivalent to MS Project? Or Visio? Any plans to develop/release these?

Thanks!

Jennifer

Jennifer,

If you only want to view and edit your MS Project files there is a
ganttlite app that will allow you to do so. http://www.ganttlite.com/. If
you want to create project files there is also SG Project
http://www.simplegeniussoftware.com/sg-project-ipad.html

For a Visio like app I have a co-worker who uses
http://elevenworks.com/touchdraw/ipad/

There are others, just Google "MS Project iPad" or "MS Visio iPad"
