FastCalc 1.9 for iOS - Pocket Calculator Features Large, Swipeable Keys - Published on 07/17/13

IMMEDIATE RELEASE

DifferentApps has announced FastCalc 1.9 for iOS, an update to their Productivity app that is a calculator featuring very large, swipeable keys. The app has only 12 keys, of which 8 serve more than one function. For example, users simply swipe downwards on the "5" key to invoke the "x" operation. With three memories, parentheses, and exponents, FastCalc allows the user to calculate more easily and efficiently than calculators that do not support swipe gestures.

Geneva, Switzerland - DifferentApps has announced FastCalc 1.9 for iOS, an update to their Productivity app that is an advanced design, five-function calculator, featuring very large, swipeable keys. Particularly on the iPhone and iPod touch, very large keys offer enhanced visual and tactile usability. The app has only 12 keys (iPhone), of which 8 serve more than one function. For example, rather than devote an entire key to the "x" sign, users simply swipe downwards on the "5" key to invoke the "multiply"; operation. With three memories, parentheses, and exponents, FastCalc allows the user to calculate more easily and efficiently than calculators that do not support swipe gestures.

Since there are more than 100 basic, five-function calculators available on the App Store, what makes FastCalc the app of choice? Put simply, the app embodies an elegant solution to the tradeoff between large keys and additional functions. Formerly, normal functions (add, subtract, multiply, and divide), as well as additional functions ( memory A, memory B, memory C, exponential expressions, square roots, pi, and parentheses) each required one key. In cases where one key served two functions, the user was required to first press a key activating the secondary function. FastCalc has made this confusing operational requirement obsolete.

An ideal example of this convenient multi-functionality is FastCalc's "5" key, which serves three different functions besides the number five. Exactly in the center of the iPhone screen, the "5" key is the easiest to see and to use. Swiping across the key from left to right produces an open parenthesis, from right to left a close parenthesis, and from top to bottom the multiplication sign "x." In fact, all the basic functions except add (subtract, multiply, divide, square root) are executed with a swipe gesture instead of a touch.

FastCalc features a large display screen that scrolls vertically, allowing continuous readout of ongoing calculations or expressions. There is no "clear" key. Instead the user swipes across the display to clear it. A "Confirmation required when clearing" option is available from the user settings to prevent accidental erasures. Slowly swiping from right to left clears the screen a single number or operator at a time. And there is no "equals" key, because computations are completed as they are entered.

As expected in a calculator app that includes parentheses, FastCalc adheres to the standard rules regarding priority of operations: 1) terms inside parentheses or brackets; 2) exponents and roots; 3) multiplication and division from left to right; and 4) addition and subtraction from left to right. Additional features include: 2-14 decimal places of accuracy, customizable color of both keyboard and display, and three memory functions (four on iPad) with display of the value on the key.

Feature Highlights:
* Large, easy to see keys
* 12 square keys on iPhone/iPod touch, 16 square keys on iPad
* Memory storage areas
* Copy screen content or result only
* Calculation of percentages.
* Constantly displays formula and memories in use
* Follows the rules of priority of operations
* Stores last answer each time the screen is cleared
* Fast and efficient
* Universal app
* Languages available: English, Spanish, French, Portuguese, German, and Italian

"FastCalc is the best calculator you've ever used on the iPhone for everyday and repetitive calculations," stated Andre Ponzo of DifferentApps. "You'll appreciate the extra large keys, the swipeable functions, and the easy-to-clear scrolling display."

Device Requirements:
* iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
* Requires iOS 5.0 or later
* 0.6 MB

Pricing and Availability:
FastCalc 1.9 is $2.99 (USD) and available worldwide exclusively through the App Store in the Productivity category. FastCalc - free 1.9, with reduced capabilities, is also available through the App Store.

Get Gabbin' for iOS: Conversation-Starter App Provides 250+ Questions - Published on 07/17/13

IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Indie developer Cody Frederick today introduces Get Gabbin' 1.0 for iOS, his new app designed to get an interesting conversation started between friends, family, or brand new acquaintances. The app, which is appropriate for nearly everyone, eliminates the two major roadblocks that stand in the way of conversation: getting started and finding a topic. As an app, initiating a conversation is framed as a kind of game that the user invites others to play, and Get Gabbin' then supplies 250+ topics.

Red Bud, Illinois - Indie developer Cody Frederick today is pleased to introduce Get Gabbin' 1.0 for iOS, his new entertainment app designed to get an interesting conversation started between friends, family, or brand new acquaintances. Ideal for breaking the ice or as a catalyst to enhance ordinary conversation, Get Gabbin' helps people of all ages have more fun talking.

Feature Highlights:
* Easily start a conversation anytime, anywhere
* 3 Categories of question topics: Family, General, or Would You Rather
* 250+ questions built-in
* Free updates with additional Categories
* An ideal game for families

On launch in portrait or landscape orientation, users have a choice of three built-in, question Categories: Family, General, or Would You Rather. Each question is numbered, e.g., 14 of 87, and users can easily drag left or right to go forward or backward via a push transition. New Category suggestions can be submitted through the Settings panel; additional Categories under development include: Date Night, Actions (where people have to act out answers), and Truth-or-Dare. All app updates are free for life, and there are no ads or in-app purchases.

Great for the following:
* Dinner time
* Flying
* Road trips
* Date night
* Bonfires
* Waiting in the theater
* Restaurants

We are social beings, and we thrive in groups. There is nothing more natural, spontaneous, or effortless as engaging in conversation. But sometimes Nature needs a bit of help. Get Gabbin' gets the ball rolling, and overcomes all the uncertainty and awkwardness that can act as an impediment to casual communication.

The age of smart devices has increased the amount of communication daily, but it has done little to improve its quality. In fact, social science pundits suggest that we may be witnessing the death of the art of conversation, as young people sit around a table, each glued to their iPhone screen. Get Gabbin' can help act as force to help restore natural, live, interactive communication through conversation, and it uses to its advantage the ever-present smart device in doing it.

"During family get-togethers I would sit at the kids' table and ask each of them an odd question to see how they would answer," said developer Cody Frederick. "Each time we played, it turned into an all out laugh-fest, and the next time we'd get together the kids would beg me to play the game during dinner time. I thought to myself that I could write an iPhone app that would let more families enjoy this time as much as we did."

Device Requirements:
* iPhone 3GS/4/4S/5, iPod touch (3rd/4th/5th generation), and iPad
* Requires iOS 6.0 or later
* Universal app optimized for display on all iOS devices
* 0.3 MB

Pricing and Availability:
Get Gabbin' 1.0 is $0.99 (USD) and available worldwide exclusively through the App Store in the Entertainment category. Review copies are available on request.

Beat Blocks Music Puzzle To Be Released July 22 on iOS - Published on 07/17/13

IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Zaah has announced that Beat Blocks for iOS will be released on July 22, 2013. Beat Blocks is a new matching puzzle game that utilizes the player's own iTunes library. Gameplay in Beat Blocks reacts to any song that can be played in iTunes, challenging players to adjust their strategy in-beat with their favorite songs. The game will be released for free download on iPhone, iPad and iPod. Previews of the application will be available to the press and can be requested by emailing Zaah.

New York, New York - Zaah has announced that Beat Blocks for iOS will be released on July 22, 2013. Beat Blocks is a matching puzzle game that utilizes the player's own iTunes library. Gameplay in Beat Blocks reacts to any song that can be played in iTunes, challenging players to adjust their strategy in-beat with their favorite songs. The game will be released for free download on iPhone, iPad and iPod from NYC developer Zaah. Players can access 3 of their songs while an in-app purchase of $.99 allows the player to access their entire iTunes library.

"The game itself looks to be far from a mere music-based gimmick, with lots of great gameplay mechanics that make Beat Blocks stand on its own as a solid matching game," editor Joe Jasko recently said after previewing the game.

Beat Blocks players line up 3 of the same-color blocks to clear off portions of the level. Levels last for as long as the song the player selects. Beat Blocks comes with four exclusive in-game tracks to play with. Beat Blocks also grants access to the user's own iTunes Library, allowing them to access music purchased on iTunes within the Beat Blocks game. Users can also play any music that can be played on an iOS device. This includes music downloaded from Soundcloud, Beatport, Amazon and CDBaby and other digital music websites. Any song that can be played within the iPod app on an iOS device can be played on Beat Blocks.

Beat Blocks joins a popular line of mobile match-3 puzzle games like Candy Crush and Bejeweled but offers a new, unprecedented functionality of using any music to change elements of the player's in-game experience. For instance, users match up the arrow block with the beat of their music to clear a row, and other specials occur when linking more than 3 blocks. Prism Blocks will then destroy all of the same color on the board and Bomb Blocks have an explosive surprise. Watch out for Rock Blocks, they require some strategy to be destroyed. Passing a board allows the victor to spin a prize wheel for more goodies like extra points or bonus Beat Bucks. The highest scoring players in Beat Blocks can top the leaderboards on Beat Blocks App online. There are also Game Center achievements to unlock.

Beat Blocks was shown to the independent development community at the New York Games Forum meetup in March 2013 at Microsoft's corporate offices in New York City. Beat Blocks will be a free game, giving the player access to 3 songs with an in app purchase of $.99 to lock their entire iTunes library, on the iTunes App Store and will be available worldwide in the Games category on 22 July 2013.

Beat Blocks is developed by Zaah, the team behind FPS Russia: The Game, and Techno Kitten Adventure, which features a level with the officially licensed Nyan Cat character. Previews of the application will be available to the press and can be requested by emailing Zaah.

A new level of influence to delight, inspire and educate.

Richmond, California - The Story Home's first short movie is an inspiring story told in a unique way, mixing brilliant images, gorgeous music and rich narration. The movie champions the power of parents and educators to unlock the potential in each child by encouraging them to listen to their own creative voice.

"The Boy Who Finally Listened" tells the story of a young boy who is racing through his busy world, cut off from his own wonder and imagination. When he comes upon an old storyteller telling stories to children in the park, he begins to listen and something inside him changes. His ears open to a new world of wonder and creativity, touching the gifts he had buried deep within.

"This story moved me. I took a night to clear, after spending days editing and when I watched it, I cried and felt emotionally full. It was then that I knew this movie was going to be a something special and the responses are confirming it", said Sharon Rogan Scofield, producer and co-owner of The Story Home. "The validation that "you nailed it" is so uplifting; it makes us want to create more".

Alan Scofield, writer, illustrator, narrator of the movie, and co-owner of The Story Home says "I was lucky when I was young. I had people around who inspired me, to find my "box of wonder", and use my imagination. I wonder about the kids who do not have people to believe in them, to encourage their gifts. That's why we created The Story Home, because we wanted to let all children know that they had a home for their imagination in our stories".

The Story Home began creating an authentic place for children's imaginations five years ago, offering children's audio stories regularly on their many platforms including their top iTunes podcast, website, albums, iPhone and iPad apps, to an eager family and educational audience hungry for quality content for listeners.

Response all over the world grew and millions of downloads later, The Story Home had become a top podcast on iTunes, and was awarded the coveted "great website for kids" designation by the American Library Association.

Now The Story Home is poised to enter a new level of influence to delight, inspire and educate. Its first offering, "The Boy Who Finally Listened", written by Alan Scofield, produced and edited by Sharon Rogan Scofield, with music by Yuri Sazonoff, will open the way for many more journeys of discovery, each of which will advocate for children the improvement of their education and the enriching of their minds.
