Apple randomly signing iOS 6.0.x firmware [update: signing is over] Posted: 25 Jul 2013 05:33 PM PDT Good news for folks who lost their jailbreak updating their iOS device to try out iOS 7, it appears that Apple is currently signing 6.0.x versions of iOS firmware. This means that you should be able to downgrade your iPhone or iPad to iOS 6 and re-jailbreak. Well-known iOS hacker and jailbreak developer iH8sn0w was the first to spot the reopening of the signing window, and we have since had multiple users confirm to us that they have successfully downgraded and re-jailbroken their devices. More after the fold…(...) "Apple randomly signing iOS 6.0.x firmware [update: signing is over]" is an article by iDownloadBlog.com. |
Free Dailymotion Caméra arrives, get downloading Posted: 25 Jul 2013 04:37 PM PDT Dailymotion, a French video-sharing website, today released its first video recording application on the App Store. The aptly named Dailymotion Caméra software can be used to capture, edit and share HD clips across Dailymotion’s web, mobile and connected video platforms. Featuring the pause/resume recording functionality, the app also includes the obligatory filters, contrast/brightness controls, is flattened and doesn’t cost a dime. What more could a gentleman ask for?(...) "Free Dailymotion Caméra arrives, get downloading" is an article by iDownloadBlog.com. |
Verizon asks Obama to prevent upcoming iPhone sales ban Posted: 25 Jul 2013 04:09 PM PDT In April, the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) ordered an import ban on the iPhone 3G/3GS/4 after determining Apple had violated Samsung’s 3G cellular technology patent. Apple was hoping the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) would overturn ITC’s decision on the basis that Samsung was asserting a standards-essential patent. Needles to say, Apple asked ITC to stay an order while the court considered the appeal, arguing the sales ban would “sweep away an entire segment of Apple’s product offerings.” And in an interesting twist earlier this week, the nation’s top carrier Verizon Wireless pressured President Obama to intervene in the Apple v. Samsung case and veto the impending ban…(...) "Verizon asks Obama to prevent upcoming iPhone sales ban" is an article by iDownloadBlog.com. |
Yahoo updates Fantasy Football app with new UI and mobile drafting Posted: 25 Jul 2013 03:45 PM PDT Yahoo has posted a major update today to its popular iOS Fantasy Football client, bringing the app to version 5.0. The update features a slew of new features and improvements to get you ready for the start of the 2013 NFL season. Former users of the app will note some nice UI tweaks and other enhancements, but the biggest addition is perhaps the ability to draft players. Previously, fantasy team owners were required to use a computer to conduct their drafts…(...) Warning: new phishing scam exploits Dev Center outage Posted: 25 Jul 2013 02:49 PM PDT As most of you know, Apple’s Developer Center has been offline for going on 7 days now. The company posted an update to the situation yesterday, outlining when services will be available, but it’s still not clear when the portal will be fully functional again. The breadth of the outage is far-reaching—Apple has hundreds of thousands of app developers worldwide. So it’s no surprise that some not-so-nice people have decided to exploit the situation by sending out malicious emails, pretending to be the company…(...) ‘BMarks Bar – Chrome’ adds a bookmark bar to the Google Chrome app Posted: 25 Jul 2013 01:41 PM PDT Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls; it hasn’t been too often in the past few months that I’ve been genuinely overjoyed by a tweak; such an occurrence has been few and far between. But this new tweak, Thankfully, BMarks Bar – Chrome came out of nowhere and it genuinely surprised me with how good it is. Put it this way, if you’re a Chrome user on iOS who happens to be jailbroken, stop reading right now, find a dollar, head over to Cydia and buy this thing. BMarks Bar – Chrome places a true bookmark bar on your Google Chrome app, just under the address bar like it’s supposed to be. Why Google has omitted such a feature thus far is anyone’s guess, but who cares at this point? We now have such a feature. Take a look at our full video walkthrough inside.(...) iPad to keep losing ground until new models arrive Posted: 25 Jul 2013 01:27 PM PDT During the June quarter, sales of Apple’s iPads declined fourteen percent from a year earlier. And as Mac and iPod shipments dropped, too, the iPhone stood out as Apple’s lone booming product – the company sold twenty percent more handsets than a year earlier. Analysts and suppliers now speculate iPad shipments will keep on falling due to stiff competition in the table sector and the aging lineup – at least until Apple’s blockbuster Fall brings us an iPad 5, a cheaper iPad mini and maybe even a Retina iPad mini…(...) Apple could have to pay nearly $500 million in ebook case Posted: 25 Jul 2013 12:29 PM PDT According to a new report, Apple could have to pay half a billion in damages in its ebook pricing case. That amount is based on the settlements the book publishers, named in the case, have already paid. For those who haven’t been keeping up with the ordeal, federal judge Denise Cote found Apple guilty earlier this month, of colluding with five publishers to fix ebook prices at the launch of its iBookstore…(...) Joy of Tech jokes about Dev Center outage Posted: 25 Jul 2013 11:39 AM PDT It’s been more than a week now since a security researcher tapped an iAd Workbench vulnerability, prompting an unprecedented shutdown of Dev Center, but Apple is still struggling to bring all of the fifteen different services back up (only Bug Reporter and iTunes Connect were live at post time). The outage isn’t alarming (yet) – at least compared to the PSN breach – and Apple assured no credit card data or iTunes accounts was compromised. But tell that to frustrated Apple developers who are unable to access their documentation, beta code and development tools. You can tell the unnerving situation is getting out of hand when satirists start joking about it…(...) "Joy of Tech jokes about Dev Center outage" is an article by iDownloadBlog.com. |
iPhoto beware: native Google+ Photos app heading to Mac Posted: 25 Jul 2013 10:03 AM PDT Despite its pedestrian and overly geeky interface, I still find myself using Google’s Picasa Mac app to geotag my photos, find duplicates and organize image files in folders prior to importing the images into iPhoto. Picasa may not win any beauty contest, but it sure is lightning fast and gets the job done. Now, once Google retired Picasa Web Albums and doubled-down on Google+ Photos, I could tell the desktop Picasa software was heading to the technology graveyard. But some good will come out of this: according to a Google-focused blog, the Internet giant may be replacing Picasa soon with an upcoming desktop Google+ Photos app for Mac, Windows and Linux…(...) Now iTunes activation servers are experiencing outage Posted: 25 Jul 2013 09:26 AM PDT Just when I thought Apple has started to recover from the Dev Center breach and that the brouhaha couldn’t get any worse, now comes word that iTunes activation servers have been experiencing an extended outage for the past few hours. No matter how you look at this, it’s another blunder for Apple. Without iTunes servers working, customers are unable to activate their handsets. Apple’s servers used to melt under heavy load before, but it always happened shortly after a new iPhone had gone on sale (2007/2008/2009 iPhone launches), never mid-cycle like today. It was unclear at post time whether this development had anything to do with a breach last Thursday which prompted Apple to take the entire Dev Center down…(...) If you’ve always wanted the ability to be able to save your favorite Vines, then you’ll be happy to know that this tweak does it, and it does it quite well. VineDownloader is available right now on Cydia’s BigBoss repo for $0.99. Take a look inside, as we go hands-on with the tweak on video…(...) New in iOS 7: smart ‘send from’ in Mail Posted: 25 Jul 2013 08:19 AM PDT Just a quick note regarding a nice little feature discovery in Apple’s stock Mail app in iOS 7 that I haven’t seen reported on thus far. Prior to iOS 7, creating a new message in the stock Mail app would normally default to your ‘send from’ email address specified in the Settings app. iOS 7 has changed this behavior, for the better. You see, Mail in iOS 7 is smart enough to over time learn who you’re emailing and changes the ‘send from’ value accordingly to match the recipient’s domain. I’ve included screenshots and the full description right after the break…(...) "New in iOS 7: smart ‘send from’ in Mail" is an article by iDownloadBlog.com. |

Take a look inside at our preview before the tweak officially releases.(...) "Preview: InstaLauncher" is an article by iDownloadBlog.com. |
As Apple misses a beat, Amazon is Retina-fying Kindle lineup Posted: 25 Jul 2013 06:51 AM PDT Hot on the heels of yesterday’s Google event which saw, among other goodies, introduction of the second-generation Nexus 7 tablet with an improved 1,920-by-1,200 screen, the Kindle maker Amazon is now said to be refreshing its Fire tablet family around higher-resolution displays, too. And as Apple and its Asian suppliers scramble to solve manufacturing challenges that continue to plague a second-generation iPad mini, Amazon’s top-of-the-line Kindle reportedly features a significantly overhauled display that packs 30 percent more pixels than the Retina iPad, into a smaller 8.9-inch screen compared to Apple’s 9.7-inch device. Apple issues charger advisory in China Posted: 25 Jul 2013 05:41 AM PDT Following a widely reported fatality involving a Chinese stewardess who got electrocuted by her iPhone charger (just weeks from her wedding), Apple has posted a statement to its China web site recommending customers use only authorized chargers. Ten days ago, a Chinese newspaper reported that 23-year-old China Airlines flight attendant Ma Ailun suffered a fatal electric shock when she answered a call using her iPhone that was recharging. Major media outlets picked up the report, creating another PR nightmare in Apple’s “most important market” (Cook’s words from earlier this year)…(...) In emotional interview, Ashton Kutcher reflects on Steve Jobs’ legacy Posted: 25 Jul 2013 03:08 AM PDT It seems like the tech world collectively chuckled and rolled its eyes when it found out that Ashton Kutcher—the stoner star from That 70′s Show and Hollywood’s go-to guy for b-rated romantic comedies—was going to be playing Steve Jobs in a feature film. But Kutcher has turned more than a few heads with his portrayal of Apple’s co-founder in Open Road Films’ ‘Jobs.’ And looking at this clip of his appearance on Jay Leno’s Tonight Show from last night, he obviously had tremendous respect for the man…(...)
