As expected, Apple has released the fourth beta of iOS 7 this morning. The update comes three weeks after the release of beta 3—longer than the the time period between previous betas due to a lengthy Developer Center outage caused by a security breach. Beta 4 is available now to all registered Apple developers via OTA (over the air update), which can be installed by visiting the Software Update section in the Settings app of devices that currently have iOS 7 installed. AT&T is at it again. Adding to its list of acquisitions, the company announced today that it will be purchasing regional carrier Long Lines Wireless. The telco has coverage throughout the midwest and owns some valuable spectrum licenses. The news comes just a little over two weeks after AT&T announced it would be acquiring prepaid carrier Leap Wireless. iOS 7 Beta 2 brought with it an unintended consequence of messing up apps like Snapchat. Specifically, as Snapchat requires a finger on the screen to hold the photo open while viewing it, the program would no longer close the photo viewing screen upon taking a screenshot. Even worse, Snapchat couldn’t actually detect that the user took a screenshot of a sent photo, possibly creating a huge privacy concern. The streamlining continues on over at Google. Two latest products to fall victim of the company’s re-newed focus on stuff that matters: the Shopper and Google+ Local app for the iPhone. Basically the reincarnation of Google Places, the Google+ Local app will get pulled from the App Store next month because its features have been recently folded into the latest Google Maps update. Although Places lets you use your voice to search for nearby restaurants and businesses, it became the prime candidate for removal after Google had bought Zagat in September 2011. And just like clockwork, Google on Tuesday issued a standalone Zagat app for iOS and Android devices and for the first time has made those reviews available on the web, free of charge…(...) Samsung has posted a new Galaxy S4 TV spot to its YouTube channel this afternoon. The ad, titled ‘Ready for Takeoff,’ follows the company’s recent advertising trend, depicting a man using his S4 in public that eventually gets surrounded by interested onlookers. This particular ad seems to target iPhone users more than Samsung’s previous commercials, though, as it co-stars an iPhone owner who seems very interested in the S4, but says he likes a “simple phone” and worries about the complications of switching. Alongside iOS 7 beta 4, Apple has seeded beta 3 of Apple TV 5.4 software to developers this morning. The update isn’t nearly as expansive as its iOS device counterpart, but it does bring about a number of improvements and bug fixes. Interestingly enough, the new beta also appears to allow users running iOS 7 to setup their Apple TV with their iPhone or iPad after a full restore or resetting all settings (iPhone 4 and iPad 2 not supported). Over the weekend, some photos of packaging allegedly belonging to Apple’s low-cost iPhone surfaced on the internet. Admittedly, the boxes looked fake, as there were a number of visible inconsistencies, but the ‘iPhone 5C’ branding on them was intriguing. Today, our friends over Nowhereelse.fr confirmed our suspicions, highlighting a number of issues with the boxesm including odd blurred and distorted areas, and missing Apple logos. Former employees at Apple stores in both New York and Los Angeles have filed a class action suit against the Cupertino company, claiming the iPad-maker owes them lost wages. The filing alleges that Apple forced them to stand in line for up to 30 minutes, without pay, every shift and wait for a manager to search their bags. The lawsuit was filed by Amanda Frlekin, who was employed at Apple's Century City location in Los Angeles, and Dean Pelle, who worked at Apple’s prestigious Soho store in New York.
