I have found that the new Extreme works well with the older (flat square) airports. I had an extended network with two of the older airports. The network extended from one building (concrete siding, 2x6 insulated walls, double pane windows) to a similar constructed building about 70 feet away.
The airport in the receiving building failed, so I purchased a new tower extreme. I put the new extreme (tower) in as the hub unit and extended the network with what was the old hub.
In the first building a new MB air can tap into the new tower (it is significantly faster when those two connect) and at the end of the network (at the far end of the second building - about 100-125 feet out from the hub) the signal is still strong but speed is about 1/2 what it is at the hub. I suspect this is a factor of signal degradation over distance and also that at the second building there are two older MB Pro models (2.66 mhz, 2009 models) and an older MB air.
Another benefit is that the signal is more resilient and much less likely to drop signal at the fringes of the network.
All printers work fine as well.
Hope this is of some help.

I bought a new AirPort Extreme for my base & extended the network with my old Extreme. I used the Airport Utility. To set it up & was pretty easy. Works great.

FWIW, we have the same problem here, where everyone throughout the
house receives wireless via Airport Extreme and Express extenders.
One room, however, has trouble maintaining a signal, even though it
has its own Express that shows a green indicator light and shows up
on the Airport Utility as a viable part of the network.
Nobody know why the room's signal is weak or dropped, but I suspect
it's due to the kitchen below the room, where a refrigerator has two
compressors working to keep it cold. I've heard that machines with
motors can disrupt receptivity, and this seems to be the only reason
left why that one room's reception is spotty at best. Everything
else gets great reception, regardless of the device.
So the question would be whether there's any kind of electrical
disturbance between the Airport and the device.

How do you manage to sync only one folder?
Could you sync another and resolve your original issue?
If not, why not? It would seem to be easier and cleaner to just use what you are doing, than to add another layer to things.

I'm a fairly new Mac user, and I am experiencing an annoying little problem:
When I do a restart, as I like to do once a week, I often find that when the machine starts back up, spontaneously I have an old sound track start playing. I think it's usually the last track I played previously. Not something I have deliberately stored on the machine,
but rather some "webinar" from the web that I listened to before.
The problem is I can't seem to find a way to kill this sound track. And if I try to play some other track, I get both playing at once.
Anyone know how to kill unwanted old sound tracks or files?
Thanks for the help.

Where, specifically, is it coming from? Is it a website, an application, or what?

Hi, Bob.
Please identify your Mac and OS when asking questions.
I don't have a complete answer for you, but some homework.
- Look in Sys Prefs/ Users & Groups/ (your user file)/ Login Items and see if there is any audio or video app there and tell us what it is.
- Open Applications/ Utilities/ and start Activity Monitor, again check for any audio or video app there and tell us what it is.
- Check to see if a somewhat hidden feature of 10.7 and above is on. It is called Resume, which will restart the apps that where open when you last shut down. I found it a bit aggravating and turned it off.
If after you figure out what app is playing the sound track, and you still want to turn off Resume, then go to Sys Prefs/ General/ go to the bottom of the section "Number of recent items" and uncheck Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps. But I would first just find the app and stop that one app from starting on login.
Let us know what you find.

I want to play the audio from some DVD's I have of educational presentations so
that I can transfer them to my iPhone and listen to them when I'm out and about.
I think I saw something years ago about using Handbrake for that, but I can't seem to find it when searching old topics.
I located a tutorial online and followed it's directions...it's a 2-step process, using Handbrake and then 'Extract Movie Soundtrack.39;
http://www.macworld.com/article/1146240/dvd_audio_ripping.html
...but it only seems to extract roughly HALF of the audio from each of the two DVD's I've tried this with.
I could just do this in real time, using my Tascam DR-08 to capture just the sound as I play the DVD, but I'm hoping someone out there knows a quicker way to reliably rip the audio from DVD's...
Any help will be greatly appreciated!
I also have Toast Titanium 8 on my aging 2007-vintage MacBook 2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, running OSX 10.6.8, and I'm wondering if it will do the job? Have searched on Google but haven't found anything useful about that...

EEK! My Windows brain failed me, I searched in the Mac Store for VLC, never thought to google it, doing now!
Next question, I installed Perian codec but doesn't support 10.8. How do I uninstall it as its not an app as such, not in Applications, it just added codecs

From the Perian site:
How do I remove Perian?
Open the System Preferences. Select the Perian pane and 'Remove.' Now 'Show All' preference panes, control-click the Perian pane and 'Remove "Perian" Preference Pane.'
