TourPal's strategy is to use crowd sourcing to overcome these challenges and stay ahead of the competition.
TourPal are crowd sourcing professional tour guides from all over the world to help them provide the largest amount of worldwide audio tour guides in different languages, in one app. TourPal allow any professional tour guide to upload audio tours to their system, in all locations and languages. To insure that the material is of the highest quality all tours are being reviewed before being available in the app. The revenue from the tours is being divided between the tour guide and TourPal.
There are already over 200 tours in their app, ranging from popular destinations like New York, Paris and London to more unique locations like Phuket Thailand, Bratislava Slovakia, Melbourne Australia and more. Crowd sourcing has also assisted TourPal in having tours in multiple languages, for example Barcelona has tours available in 6 languages (English, French, Italian, Spanish, Hebrew and Japanese). The users can also choose from different tour styles, city walking tours or out of city driving tours.
TourPal's next version is going to take crowd sourcing in its app to the next level by offering recommendations to restaurants and bars according to social signals. This means that the app will show which places have gotten the most likes, shares and check-ins in Facebook and other social networks and will order them accordingly. This will enable travelers to not only know what other tourists recommend, but also where the locals like to go.
TourPal's current version includes a completely new interface, advanced search and filtering capabilities and GPS enabled, free offline and online maps with routes that include tourist attractions and sights. Each sight includes an audio guide and textual information. Offline maps allow you to use the app abroad without incurring costly roaming charges.
