An ionosonde or ionospheric sounder (colloq. chirpsounder), is a
specialized radar system for the examination of the ionosphere. An
ionosonde is used for finding the optimum operation frequencies for
broadcasts or two-way communications in the high frequency range

Thanks Jurgen. I did not find that when I looked for it. And it make sense, since it seems Chas is a Ham operator.

Sorry, while looking up your system, I inadvertently was looking at the laptop, not the desktop.

Have you tried deleting the Firefox app and installing Firefox v 20.0.0.1? You can download it from

http://www.oldapps.com/mac/firefox.php?old_firefox=12093

I have never used the site, and if you read the Mozilla site, their comment about installing older versions is to beware that it will not have the current security updates included. Personally, I would try to make the current version work, or switch browsers.

Good luck.

I purchased this MAC Pro from Frys o/a Oct 2005 and the only modification I
have made to it is to 1. add RAM 2. add HDD. If it was modified, it might
have been done by Apple to use up some of their PRE-Intel machines. I really
believe that I have a very early production model of this MAC Pro.

Going to Hardware Overview, I have pasted the copied data below.

Model Name: Mac Pro
Model Identifier: MacPro1,1
Processor Name: Dual-Core Intel Xeon
Processor Speed: 2.66 GHz
Number Of Processors: 2
Total Number Of Cores: 4
L2 Cache (per processor): 4 MB
Memory: 16 GB
Bus Speed: 1.33 GHz
Boot ROM Version: MP11.005C.B08
SMC Version (system): 1.7f10
Serial Number (system): YM63421VUQ2
Hardware UUID: 00000000-0000-1000-8000-0017F201E34A

As you can tell above, it states that the chipset is Xeon and nothing else.
I am locked at v.10.6.8 of OS/X and the browser I use habitually is FireFox
(FF). I have always done updates as Mozilla produced them but started having
problem with v.19 but I went ahead and updated to v20 which seemed to improve
the bugs in 19. I then updated to 21 and immediately had problems which only
worsened when I moved on to v.22

At this point, I want to RESTORE back to about Jan 19? of this year - getting
rid of any aspects of any Mozilla versions after 20.

I do not want to mess with any files or data - especially ThunderBird (TB) v
17.0.7 . As stated, I have learned that I can NOT upgrade certain software
such as Adobe Acrobat which has been released since about Jan 2013. I really
resent the fact that I have to stop using or upgrading software on this Pro
because OS/X 10.7 is beyond my boundary. I find it hard to believe that this
$2500 machine is now obsolete unless I plan to never upgrade its OS and any
software based upon these later versions of its OS/X software. So, I am
saving my dollars (FIXED INCOME!) so that I can buy the new MAC Pro when it
comes out.

In the meantime, I have turned off AUTO UPDATE toggles to prevent (My
terminology : 2d version INTEL based OS and addons, etc. That is, anything
requiring latter day upon this latter Class of OS.

I just cannot believe that no provision for upgrading the mobo or other
hardware has been planned. Truly Planned obolescence !

thanks to the one or two who have offered suggestions on the partial Restore
problem for Time Machine. I agree that I think that Mozilla v.21/22 are
simply not proper to the Initial set of OS/X software but instead, are
designed to support the Second set of OS.

I really have no problem with this obsolescence in that I went thru all of
that with DOS 3.0, 3.1, etc and on into the GUI M$ changes of WFWG, etc and
so on. Since the 1980s, it has been quite a trip with desk computers after
moving off main frames with its Cobol, Fortran, etc.

BRENT, I would prefer to RESTORE the FFv20 from my TimeMachine (TM) along
with its libraries which I seem to have deleted last month.

would that be possible and if so, which file name should I delete (if any)
and then which should I restore? Right now, I have versions 17 and 22
running or installed on the Pro. Should I delete both of these (how? just
delete the .app file?) then go into TM and restore the v20 .app and which
files should I restore to get my cached settings back along with my bookmarks
which are gone, along with my history, etc. iow, I want to hunt and pick
which files to keep from April 19 I think it was.

thanks

I didn't suggest trashing Skype, I said to use an application remover. I am suggesting that trashing an app and it's prefs does not necessarily remove all Skype files. I use "AppZapper".
