What you are seeing is the difference between <Click> and <Click and hold>.
Don't hold.

I think that it must be a question of habit - the quicker the click the faster you will go to the previous page.
Clicking and holding the back arrow shows you the history of that window.
Clicking and holding the back arrow of a brand new window shows nothing because that window has no history.
The History menu in the menu bar shows every page you have viewed listed by date.
It seems like the problem you described is easy to avoid - I don't know if you can turn this off via terminal.
Perhaps if you have difficulty fast clicking there is a solution in System Preferences settings.

Re: How to delete audiobooks on iPhone

Joan, I'm not sure about audio books, but the way I delete/remove ebooks
that I download from our library is to log into Amazon (where our ebooks
come from), log into my account, and remove the ebook there. You might try
this with your audiobooks if they come from Amazon....Jim

I agree. It's a bit frustrating when someone reports a problem, then
follows up saying, "Never mind, I've found the answer." *without* telling
us what it was. We're all here to learn from one another and this process
depends on reading solutions to problems.

Well! I went to settings and could not find the "maximum number to download" but I did see a line that says "Save deleted messages to your All Mail box". Why would I want to do that? However I don't see a place to change this. If I ever get the thing cleared will I then have to edit the All Mail box and delete the deleted messages again?

Congratulations on recovering your photos. Do have a look at DataRescue.

Howdy, Dan.
I bought TechTool Pro (it was only $20). I have loaded it and need to figure out how to best use it. As usual for software of this sort, it's a major education project just to figure out how to use it, what features to turn on, etc, especially for the inexperienced Mac/OSX user. Thanks for the recommendation.
I'm trying to get a bit more grounded in Terminal, Applescript, Unix and the way OSX thinks and organizes data. It's all new, so it is a bit overwhelming at first, but I am sure it will be beneficial down the road.
I used the "photorec" program with terminal to recover my files off my compact flash card and eventually figured it out. I can't seem to look at my other drives yet, though the program says it can do that. I think I need to be logged in as the root user or use the sudo command to have access to those drives. I'm cautious about that stuff, since I know it can be dangerous and I am new at this stuff. When logged in as a normal user, I can only inspect and recover from my camera's compact flash card (no other choices are available). I'll get there eventually, or get sidetracked into my normal stuff.

I'm puzzled that you cannot access your other drives with PhotoRec. As I
said yesterday, I was able to that with an external drive in the same way
that I can with a memory card (which is just another volume as far as the
file system is concerned).

Otto,
Maybe you are logged on differently than I am? I think I read something in the Readme and also their help. It is designed to work on hard drives, as noted below.
"PhotoRec is file data recovery software designed to recover
lost pictures from digital camera memory or even Hard Disks.
It has been extended to search also for non audio/video headers."
I saw this in the PhotoRec FAQs online. I'm not sure what password to use, since I have never tried using the sudo command.
"I can't move, delete, rename the recovered files!
Change the owner of the files, example sudo chown -R username recup_dir.* or sudo chown -R username /home/username/testdisk- 6.14/recup_ dir.*. (When asked for the password, use the password from your user session to validate the sudo command)"
I'm guessing it is a permissions thing.
