you could turn the wifi off or get the app from cydia after jailbreaking
called depersistwifi
which turns the wifi off in sleep mode

Today's mini history. Took my grandaughter to her guitar lesson. Sat w/ mini on for 25 minutes w / cellular only. Doing only Facebook. Battery went from 100% to 96%. Not bad. Then grandaughter played with it in car on ride home using some game apps for -30 minutes. The battery went from 96% to 80%. I guess Talking Tom makes a lot of difference. The moving car must matter even though she was not going online with it.

It's the work that the processor is doing. Games take a lot of processing power. Browsing and Facebook does not

Yes the ipad 3 will last longer than the mini. That is because the ipad has a battery almost twice as large but it's using the same processor. Only difference is screen size, and the extra 2.15 inches does not take twice the battery power.
