Dan:

Thanks for the information. I was unsure what happened to my
question on this as I never saw it and assumed it had been
somehow lost in the "inter web" ; 0

As for the missing/not functioning case change in Pages, you'd
think as they periodically update this software someone would: a)
recognize the problem and; b) fix it.

I was using pages but ended up using Word just because over time
it seemed to work better for my practice and I became more
familiar with it.

The Pages question came up only because of a form I filled out in
Pages but then couldn't change case - except manually. Inasmuch
as I work in .25/hour increments in a very tight schedule,
running into these sort of things cause some headaches.

For now, I'll just keep using word and hope someday, someone at
Apple resolves this problem.

This is a weird issue in Pages and a significant feature that is
missing or doesn't work.

Fortunately there are multiple work arounds for changing case and
other
editing functions.

Try WordService first and see what you think of it.

WordService

This a a great free Service utility.

Download from:
<https://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/10523/wordservice> >
and visit the maker's web site also.

WordService provides 37 editing functions such as changing case,
sentence case, Initial caps, straight and smart quotes, removing
line
endings and beginnings and attachments and links , sorting lines,
various date and time formats, paths, and more.

WordService works with a variety of Macintosh programs as a
Service
including TextEdit, Pages, Mail, Stickies, Safari, and more.

After downloading, decompress the downloaded file and add the
utility
within named

WordService.service

to your User Account/Library/Services folder.

Then restart your Mac or log out of your user account and log
back in.

You may need to check something and turn on some of the 37
features by
checking on the check boxes in

System Preferences >Keyboard > Keyboard Shortcuts tab, then
select
Services in left column.

Then scroll through the items in the right window pane and check
on
some or all of the new Services added by WordService.

The reason for this is that some of these services may have
shortcut
commands that conflict with other shortcut commands. You may
need to
experiment with changing the shortcut if you use one that you
need that
conflicts.

Then open Pages, open a document with text, select some text,
choose
the Pages menu and pick Services and you should see the
WordService
items you checked to turn on in Keyboard Shortcuts.

Same Services will work in many applications including the
GyazMail
email program I'm using to write this message.

Good luck.

Where text is all in capitals is there a way to then highlight
all
the text in all-caps and change it to all small letters?

I tried what Pages help advises but that doesn't change anything.

John,

I never saw your original post but did see it quoted in Dan's first reply.

Even after all the years Pages has been around it still has this absurd
omission, despite the fact that TextEdit *does* have this obvious function.

WordService from Devon Technologies is an excellent and free fix for Pages,
though, and any other app where its options apply.

I cannot find an e-mail address or form to complete, so at least someone at Yahoo can explain what might have happened to mmy mail configuration and fix it. Is there a way to contact them?

I wish someone in this group with some technical understanding could explain why my e-mails have been impacted and a family member using this same computer and the same type of Yahoo Mail account but with a separate
address, has not experienced any changes.

Thanks again,
Bally Rick

I can only suggest going to Yahoo and comparing your settings/preferences
with those of your family member. Perhaps Yahoo has changed yours without
your permission? You are both using Yahoo Mail as webmail, yes?

When composing a message in Apple Mail on my iMac and MBP it does
the "auto-complete" but on my iOS devices the auto complete
doesn't work anymore. Any suggestions for getting it back? BB

Just following along to learn. What at iOS are you running Pat, because I don't see auto-complete?

On my iPhone, at Settings>General>Keyboard, I see: Auto-Capitalization, Auto-Correct, Check Spelling, Enable Caps Lock, "." Shortcut, Keyboards, Shortcuts and Add New Shortcut, but no auto-complete.

Shortcuts have to be manually entered, so I don't think that is what BB is calling auto-complete.

But then again, I don't see auto-complete in Apple Mail, either. I think BB has a third-party app running on his Macs.

I don't know of a auto-complete function in OS X.

Are you sure you don't have a third party app, like TypeIt4Me running on the Macs?

(Funny, Pat's response arrived at my Mac, an hour and 9 minutes before your question.)

Besides proprietary software written Windows not ported to OSX, there

Parallels 7 on SnowLeopard. Soon to upgrade to Parallels 8. Lion and Mt
Lion will have to wait, based on drivers and compatibility with some of
our older peripherals.

Tks for that. It seems there are very few instances these days of Windows only, at least mainstream software. I read on here about someone using Accounting software which they were locked in as its what their accountant uses but thats not really mainstream for most of us.

I've not spent much time on OSX but I do quite like it, rather seeing the change as a PITB I take it as an enjoyable learning curve.

We tend to be biased towards what we are familiar with.

I used to use more Windows, because certain hardware manufacturers did not provide software to upgrade their hardware that was Mac compatible. I currently only use Windows to get audiobooks from the public library, that are only available in digitally protected formats for Windows only. Then I put it on a Windows formatted iPod mini to listen to..

I have never found the need to use windows based accounting software, so that is not understandable.

If you were competent in Windows, you can be competent in OS X.

There was another thread about what can you do in windows but not on a Mac

I'm am slowly moving to a mac and am heavily windows biased (solely due to familiarity )

So, why do some of you run windows as well on your mac? Exclude vitals such as the accounting software example as that's understandable

When I get to Mac I will despite my bias try to run only OSX.

Any feedback appreciated

People who've upgraded sequentially all the way from V1 or V2 of Fusion may befall a problem somehow related to the upgrade installer not clearing out previous preferences correctly. Fusion's support people have listed a Terminal command that can banish those remnants and permit the new Fusion V6 to start up correctly and completely.

Microsoft Access, mapping programs, most industrial and medical programs
don't run under OSX. When speed is impt, Windows runs better and faster on
a system board with drivers meant for it. Apples drivers for bootcamp are
poor, and video cards on most Mac laptops are not the best. I am not a
gamer, but those that are in local MUG all have Windows machines for this
reason.

Since this is starting to cross over several threads and it separate from the original threads of each, I started a new one. If you are referring to another thread, please include the original subject line so if someone finally finds a way to contact Yahoo, they can research it.

On my end as of 9/14/13 13:55 PDST (GMT -7) I have only seen 2 of Hal9000's responses to Randy.

Please note that the date and time below, as I received this today, 9/14 at noon, meaning it took 23h 37m to get through the yahoo server to my Mac.

Hal9000, what time zone are you in? You appear to be in the US.

If I am reading the headers correctly, it looks like you are using Yahoo Groups Message Poster, which I guess is web mail, as opposed to an email app.

I have a question about moving drives between 2 different MacBooks.

The 2 MacBooks involved:

1. Macbook 4,1, Core2 Duo, 2.4 GHz, 4 GB RAM, 250 GB 5400 RPM Fujitsu HD
(Apple branded)
2. Macbook 2,1, Core 2 Duo, 2.0 GHz, 4 GB RAM, 128 GB Samsung SSD drive
(3rd party to replace failed drive)

Both are running fully patched OS X 10.7.5 - this is the max OS for both
MacBooks according to EveryMac.Com and Mactracker. What I'm planning to
do is simply swap the hard drives so as to have the [much] faster SSD
drive on the newer, slightly faster MB.

Is there any reason not to do this? Any consideration when there is
somewhat different HW involved? I'm asking this because from doing this
in Windows, it's pretty much required to reinstall the OS. I'm currently
thinkuing thatg there will be no major issues and the OS will adjust
itself at boot to recognize any hardware differences and adjust.

Thanks

Tim O
