Howdy.

Just discovered you can teach iOS 7 Siri how to pronounce names.

I told her to pronounce Cicorello as "cheekorello" and not as "seecorello."

Just invoke Siri, mention a name in Contacts, then tell Siri it change pronunciation.

Thanks to an article by Kirk McElhearn in MacWorld:

Hrm, that has been around since Siri was in beta.... there was something
along the lines of a "phonetically" field in the contacts where it stored
the data.

Maybe just was an undocumented beta feature that is now fully functional
though...

Hi all,

Good day.

I am confused , which computer to buy MacMini or iMac

What i want to use the Mac for is:

* To run 3 to 5 virtual machine / OS simultaneously.

* I use light room , Bento , Aperture

* Huge collection of movies , music , ebook and pictures.

*i have enrolled for certification which needs me to run various version of
windows and linux.*

I have been using Mac desktop since 95 , first mac was power mac 7200. I
use windows very very rare.

I dont want to invest on a PC just for certification and keep it in corner
later.

I dont want to buy 21" because i cant upgrade so i guess my option will be
27", i need more RAMS when i run virtual machine.

As far as i know Macmini is user upgradable , i can change the drive and
upgrade Ram anytime.

Please help..

thanks
IK

iMac and mac mini both have very easy RAM upgrade - the iMac drive can not
be user ugpraded, the mac mini drive can be but requires technical skills.

If I were choosing I would say iMac - honestly once you buy mac mini +
upgrade to get specs to where iMac is then buy 27" display it is going to
cost more than if you just buy iMac and RAM from OWC...

Nothing to add to this.
I agree with Bill.

Well, I would go for a Mini. It's easily upgradable with RAM and HD, and you have your choice of any monitor you want. And, it's less expensive.

And of course it worked in the Apple Store.

I guess I have to reinstall iTunes, if it continues to be an issue.

I have been trying to sync my iPhone 4s since upgrading to iOS 7 & iTunes 11.1, 2 days ago. I could not figure out why it seemed to sync, but would not sync my audiobooks.

I have Restarted, Reset & Restored. I have created a new playlist. I have tried syncing the audiobooks to my old iPhone 3GS. But in all cases the sync hangs in dealing with either importing photos or analyzing photos. I finally noticed that it was canceling the sync, not finishing it.

Any suggestions before I take it in to the Genius Bar? Any one else having problems with syncing since the upgrade?

On another list, someone mentioned that archives of Yahoo lists are public and you could find them by Googling the e-mail address of a member. I was doubtful about this and tried Googling my own address (in quotes, to eliminate irrelevant results).

I didn't find public archives, but I did find some digests of Mac Support Central posted in a blog, including member names and addresses:

<http://iphone-software-news.blogspot.com/2013/03/macsupport-digest-number-9465.html>

<http://gadget-to.blogspot.com/2013/02/re-macsupport-searching-in-mailapp_2.html>

Others have told me this is illegal. If so, I hope something can be done about it.

Thank you,

David

The Mac Support Central digests posted in that blog go back to 2011.

Did "others" explain *why* it is illegal?

It certainly seems unethical, but I don't see where it violates the law.

I'm replying on MacSupport because that's where this discussion
belongs. David wanted to know how to contact blogspot.com about the
MacSupport posts that have been copied on somebody's blog.

I started with one of the blog pages that quotes MacSupport posts:
(Hey, MacSupport members! It's not just David whose MacSupport posts
have been republished here. Some of you will find your own posts
here, along with links to your email addresses. I feel a little left
out. Nothing by me--maybe because I own no iOS devices.)

Back to the search for contact info: At the bottom of the page, past
all the Yahoo stuff, it says "Powered by Blogger."

A little digging shows that Blogger belongs to Google. I could have
gotten there even more quickly if I had just plugged blogspot.com
into the address line in my browser.

A little more digging brings this for reporting abuse on Blogger:
https://support.google.com/blogger/topic/3030094?hl=en&ref_topic=3339302

So, knowing what we know about Google, will it care?

And will Yahoo care?

We'll all be interested in how this turns out.

Patsy

I was just passing on what had been told to me about it being illegal in case someone more knowledgeable here might comment.

In any event it's a violation of Yahoo Guidelines <http://groups.yahoo.com/local/guidelines.html> and I assume also of Blogger/blogspot.com's TOS.

Thank you for the link. I had gone there earlier but there was no contact information that I could see.

After a lot of searching I finally reported it at "Someone is posting my private information--Blogger help" <https://support.google.com/blogger/contact/private_info?id=&url=> although I'm not sure if that was the right place.

I don't really see which guideline forwarding posts from this list would violate ?

This is a public list. Yes, you have to sign up, but anyone can. As such you should consider messages sent to it to be in the public domain. Not saying its good practise, nor that you shouldn't try and stop if you care. Just not sure if you really can..

Hi all,

Apple Store told me today that at the moment there appears to be a "bug" which needs ironing out with respect to iMessage.

Some people (including me) are not receiving our messages in iMessage.

Anyone else have this problem?

I hope it fixes itself pronto. *sigh*

Regards,
Michael
