Using CS5, I would first reinstall CS5. Yes it's a hassle but could solve the crashing. If this doesn't work reinstall Snow Leopard. SL and CS5 are supposed to be compatible or it used to be for me. It still is in 10.8.5, but I had to turn off Preview in Bridge.

Also, what is all the bracket stuff going on in your posts? When I post to the list from "Messages"; for Macsupportcentral at Yahoo I don't get all the endless coding. Nor are my sentences & paragraphs run-on.

I had experienced similar frequent yet random kernel panics / crashes on
my G5 Quad; though a different generation of CPU, the problem seemed to
be fixed when I reinstalled the OS (Leopard for PPC). First I tried to
disable the offending CPU of the 4 (there is a system prefs add-on you
can install), since the kernel panic report always mentioned the one. It
did help for a while, but then another would assume those duties. So I
ended up upgrading the machine and wiping the G5 clean and reinstalling
the OS from scratch, with nothing else. It worked fine for several more
months while I switched to the MacPro and decommissioned it in stages.
At least it's worth a shot. Part of the decommissioning was to open it
up, reseat the memory chips and the CPU daughterboard, and give the case
a good vacuuming. The latter is important to do, as heat build-up due to
dust and blocked air flow can cause CPU problems. I'd run it in a cooled
server rack if I had the $ but I don't... so maintenance will have to
suffice.

Tony: In my opinion, the **only** reason a Mac user would run Windows on his Mac is that he needs some Windows program that is not available for Mac. I can't think of any other reason why one would do this.

I am not a gamer in the traditional sense, I run F1 and FSX. Mac is slower than PC, despite in comparing same hardware. I expect the same reason that proprietary PC's run slower than homebuilt. Slower ram and bus timings, enhancing stability.

Microsoft Access, mapping programs, most industrial and medical programs don't run under OSX. When speed is impt, Windows runs better and faster on a system board with drivers meant for it. Apples drivers for bootcamp are poor, and video cards on most Mac laptops are not the best. I am not a gamer, but those that are in local MUG all have Windows machines for this reason.

Thanks for trying. His is a her's :-). I do not have a third party app to have auto complete on the Mac for addressing email. It was not a result of any setting... Just there. On the iPad and iPhone it was there in mail at one time and I was not aware of anything causing it to not be there any longer. If my mystery is ever solved, I will post for all.

When all you give us to work with is BB, it is hard to tell the gender. Sorry, Barbara.

Since the subject of how to remove an e-ddress from auto-fill in OS X Mail, comes up about once or twice a month, I assumed you were NOT talking about e-ddresses. Sorry, I'm not a mind reader, and the crystal ball is in the shop.

Let me locate the recent query on removing an e-ddress from auto-fill in iOS Mail, and see if I can reverse engineer it to turning it on. I don't remember which list it was on.

I'll get back to you if I find it.

I don't know how it got turned off, but read this article,

http://www.iphonefaq.org/archives/972586

I'm guessing if you add one using the plus sign on the upper left of a new email, it might turn it back on.

Good luck,

Brent

Looks very doable to me. I've in the past cloned one machine to a somewhat similar machine, but less similar than yours. That's why my MacBook Pro still has printer drivers for printers connected to my iMac :-)

I'm asking this because from doing this in Windows, it's pretty much required to reinstall the OS. I'm currently thinkuing thatg there will be no major issues and the OS will adjust itself at boot to recognize any hardware differences and adjust.

Thanks, Barry;

I figured it was possible, since you can boot from a drive not
previously used on a given machine, In the past though, I've only done
that to repair things with say, Disk Utility or to diagnose a boot issue
with the original drive.

I guess I'll go for it and see what happens.

Thanks!

Correction. In  Windows, swapping drives, or anything for that matter does not require a Windows clean install. Device Manager will sort that out..

Given that Apple has a massively smaller hardware base, I expect it will just work as the limited hardware options will all have Mac drivers

Subject: [macsupport] Macbook hardware question

I have a question about moving drives
between 2 different MacBooks.

The 2 MacBooks involved:

1.
Macbook 4,1, Core2 Duo, 2.4 GHz, 4 GB RAM, 250 GB 5400 RPM Fujitsu HD
(Apple branded)
2. Macbook 2,1, Core 2 Duo, 2.0 GHz, 4 GB RAM, 128 GB
Samsung SSD drive (3rd party to replace failed drive)

Both are
running fully patched OS X 10.7.5 - this is the max OS for both MacBooks
according to EveryMac.Com and Mactracker.  What I'm planning to do is
simply swap the hard drives so as to have the [much] faster SSD drive on
the newer, slightly faster MB.

Is there any reason not to do
this? Any consideration when there is somewhat different HW involved?
I'm asking this because from doing this in Windows, it's pretty much
required to reinstall the OS. I'm currently thinkuing thatg there will
be no major issues and the OS will adjust itself at boot to recognize
any hardware differences and adjust.

Thanks

Howdy.

Some very interesting articles are appearing about iBeacons and iPhone 5S.

iBeacons is a technology that combines aspects of Bluetooth and WiFi to create a sort of indoor GPS for all kinds of potential uses. When combined with the ability of the new Touch ID technology for instant authentication of payment info it could be revolutionary. Some commentators say iBeacons could surpass NFC for making payments. NFC means Near Field Communications.

I'd like to see iBeacons used in place of the plastic SmartCard I currently use to pay fares on the Washington Metro System.

Latest Update: In the past four hours my Yahoo Mail format/configuration changed twice. First it returned to what I have been used to (normal) for the past couple of years and then once again reverted back to the format that I unexpectedly viewed early this week, the one I have been writing about, without me doing anything beyond signing in and out.

Weird! But Yahoo has been pretty weird recently--both mail and groups.

I belong to a lot of Yahoo groups, but use my Yahoo Mail as little as
possible. When I was on the Yahoo Mail page this week I noticed only
a cosmetic difference in format from my previous visits and no
difference in functionality. But I did see, in the upper right above
the purple bar: "Switch to the newest Yahoo! Mail." No way! I am
curious, but I'm also afraid I'll never be able to get back to the
old way.

I understand that Yahoo is gradually moving groups and mail over to
the latest and greatest format, and it's not working well for
everybody. Happily, the group I moderate hasn't been moved over yet.
I expect eventually to have no choice. But while I do, I choose to
stay with the old way.

Of all the Yahoo groups I belong to, the flow of mail to Mac Support
Central has been by far the most confusing this week.
