Thanks Charles, just joined so will see what I can learn.

impossible things."

"I daresay you haven't had much practice," said the Queen. "When I was
younger, I always did it for half an hour a day. Why, sometimes I've
believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast."

No matter which of the links I use I get a jpeg image that is mostly blank. There are a few thumbnail size images down the left side of the window that are not clickable or expandable.

Which OS version and browser are you using? With OS X 10.8.5 and Safari 6.0.6, there is a thumbnail jpeg along the left-hand side. When you click it, it gets large enough to read.

Many years ago I remember using a "cheat-sheet" for WordPerfect -- laminated card stock with all kinds of key combinations and tips to help navigate around the program.

Now, I see Randy has posted a Tips for OS X here - http://www.the-tech-blog.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/pEPE0dU.jpg, and I'm confident there are many more such items.

How do I get those things on such a "cheat-sheet" (or whatever it's called) to have handy right by my laptop?

I keep very little on my desktop, but this is an exception. I created a folder in Desktop named "Cheat-Sheets & Tips", and inside the folder is a pages document with the URL Randy gave us for that group of Tips. I'm trying to dig up more of these, and I'll add them to the list.

How about posting your favorite tips, or maybe your links to Tip websites?

Howdy.

iOS 7 is due to be released tomorrow, September 18, 2013.

I'd like to suggest that group members should be a bit cautious about
immediately installing it on iPhones/iPads/iPod Touches.

In my case, I use the Sonos Controller on both iPhone and iPad for my
whole house Sonos Digital system and Sonos says they need to release an
updated Sonos app or it won't work well. The Sonos app is due out in
about a week at which time I'll update to iOS 7.

This is just a caution to check first on required app updates if you
have apps you depend on.

Bob,

I know what you're saying, but *technology* is not just about IT/computers
(I read your post as implying that cars are not technology). Here's just
one definition (from the OS X Dictionary).
"technology |tÉ›kˈnÉ'lÉ™dÊ'i|
noun ( pl. technologies ) [ mass noun ]the application of scientific
knowledge for practical purposes, especially in industry: advances in
computer technology | [ count noun ] : recycling technologies.̢ۢ machinery and
equipment developed from scientificknowledge.̢ۢ the branch of knowledge dealing
with engineering or appliedsciences."
So, it means any product of engineering.

Sorry if I am not understanding, but can't you open wvm files via QuickTime with Flip4Mac?

These audiobooks are WMP DRM-protected, so only WMP can open them. I don't
think anyone questions that they need to be protected, only the choice of a
proprietary Windows format.

Thanks Mike. But when it happens to me I can't even eject the drive. I have to turn it off and suffer the ensuing scolding from OS X.

This time I did a verify and it said I needed to do a repair. I did the repair and it reported it was OK, so we'll see.

The first couple of times this happened, since nothing had I tried seemed to help, I erased the disk and restarted Time Machine. Each time, that fixed it for some time (although I lost all those backups).

It still happens every week or two, but I do this every time it gives that error report and Time Machine chugs merrily on again. (Note: I have Energy Saver set to sleep hard disks when possible, and I think the disk's sleep status is involved but I haven't checked that since the method I use to correct the issue works.)

The drive is a LaCie 2 TB USB 2.0 drive, closing in on three years old. It is used for nothing other than Time Machine backups. Is it dying? If so, what are your recommended replacements? With the new Retina I can now consider USB 3.0 and Thunderbolt, if one of those would make a big difference.
