Hmm. Yes, Otto, up is on here and in every country I've ever visited. Sounds like a good excuse to visit the southern hemisphere!

Down is on in most of Europe, which last time I checked was in the
Northern Hemisphere...

To complicate matters, although 'up' is usually 'on' in the US, lights at several locations in my home, in the stairway, for example, are controlled by two switches in separate locations. Whether a switch is set to 'on' or 'off' depends simply on whether the light is 'on' or 'off' at the time, not whether the switch is 'up' or 'down.39;

That's true wherever you have more than one switch controlling the same
light.

Here being?
This says only the USA & Canada have up=on.

I like the idea of earthquake-prone countries having sideways switches. ;)

Sorry, Otto, the US. So it seems Apple may have it right for most of the world, though I'd argue that from a UI perspective, most of the world has got light switches wrong ;-)

I fail to see why there is any 'natural39; mapping between up/down and
off/on... Really, does it matter...

If you have an "x" to tap on, then you are not in the multitasking tray, and shutting apps down, but are on a home screen, and are deleting apps from the machine entirely.

So far, I think that you are the only one who has.
If it helps, think of picking that app up off the tray.
Just the way you remove things from the Dock in MacOS X.

You guys have never been in a room with double-pole, double-throw switches, where 2 separate switches, at the 2 entrances to the room, BOTH control the same light?
Whether up is "on" or "off" at one switch depends on the position of the other switch.
