iOS 6.1.3/4 jailbreak: almost there, but not really Posted: 23 Sep 2013 04:52 PM PDT If the iOS 6.1.3/6.1.4 jailbreak was a Facebook relationship status, it would be “it’s complicated.” In case you haven’t seen @winocm’s latest tweet:
Nothing really new here from what we’d already been told in the last weeks, but progress is being made, and that is encouraging. It looks like at this point, only a few selected devices are slowing the process down. On the iOS 7 front, pod2g said last week he was more and more confident in a jailbreak for Apple’s latest mobile OS. Valve takes aim at your living room with SteamOS Posted: 23 Sep 2013 02:34 PM PDT Games developer Valve has built a nice little business around Steam, a digital distribution platform for Mac/PC titles, basically an App Store for cross-platform desktop games. Now, for some time we’ve been hearing whispers of a Valve-branded gaming hardware, especially with its CEO seeing Apple more of a threat compared to the console guys. According to Valve, hardware makers can now build devices based on SteamOS, Valve’s new and free Linux-based operating system for the living room gaming PCs (Android, much?). Of course, SteamOS comes with both the Steam distribution platform built-in and a whole new interface specifically designed with big screens in mind. Should Apple be worried?(...) Steve Jobs’ home where Apple was born could become historical site Posted: 23 Sep 2013 02:10 PM PDT The Los Altos, California home where Steve Jobs and partner Steve Wozniak first began building computers may be turned into a protected historical site, according to a new report from CNN. Apparently the Los Altos Historical Commission is looking to conduct a “historic property evaluation” on the house, which is located on 2066 Crist Drive in Los Altos, as soon as next Monday…(...) Top 10 indie games for iPhone and iPad Posted: 23 Sep 2013 01:50 PM PDT Sure, companies like Gameloft, Activision, and Warner Brothers are launching amazing-looking hugely popular games in iOS and they are impressive, to say the least. But the big-timers have a lot more manpower and a lot more money to invest in perfecting their wares before they make it into the hands of gamers. Indie game developers put in a lot of work to make their dreams a reality. Oftentimes, an independent game company consists of one or two people who hold down a full-time day job while spending their evening hours working in the back room as their kids are growing up around them. We've got a list of indie games that we think are just as worthy of your attention as the ones that big time game companies have launched…(...) Begin review: keep track of daily lists without distractions Posted: 23 Sep 2013 12:56 PM PDT I'm sure I've mentioned this before: I am a list maker. I write at least one list every single day. I'm constantly tracking every moment of my life by writing down what needs to be done and then checking it off a list. It is such a satisfying feeling to see those bold lines crossing out everything you've done. Begin makes the task of list making as simple as writing it down on a piece of paper by taking away all of the bells and whistles you might normally see in a to-do list app, and that is a good thing…(...) BlackBerry to sell itself in $4.7 billion deal Posted: 23 Sep 2013 12:06 PM PDT Canadian phone maker BlackBerry – once the undisputed enterprise giant that used to be synonymous with smartphones and whose iconic BlackBerry handsets with their clickety-clack keyboards and real-time, secure push email were considered the real work machines – is now entertaining a $4.7 billion offer from its largest shareholder, a move that would take the free-falling phone company private. Fairfax Financial Holdings, which already owns 9.9 percent of the Waterloo, Ontario firm, would pay $9 per share, a 3.1 percent premium over last week’s share price. According to a statement by Fairfax CEO Prem Watsa, the private company will “focus on delivering superior and secure enterprise solutions to BlackBerry customers around the world.”…(...) iPhone 5s iMovie 1080p rendering twice as fast Posted: 23 Sep 2013 09:28 AM PDT Early Geekbench benchmarks of the iPhone 5s seemingly prove Apple’s claim that the new 64-bit A7 chip provides two times greater CPU and GPU performance over its predecessor, the A6 package inside the iPhone 5. Specifically, the iPhone 5s Geekbench score (the new version of the Geekbench app supports 64-bit chips) is close to the early-2010 Mac mini model. But how do benchmark scores translate into real-world performance in your favorite apps? Blogger Lex McFarley did an interesting head to head test using the iMovie app running on both an iPhone 5s and a previous-generation iPhone 5. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the new phone rendered the video in half the time as the iPhone 5…(...) "iPhone 5s iMovie 1080p rendering twice as fast" is an article by iDownloadBlog.com. |
Apple boosts quarterly revenue guidance on strong iPhone 5s/5c sales Posted: 23 Sep 2013 08:33 AM PDT Nine million opening weekend iPhone sales is music to the ears of Wall Street. Matter of face, most analysts were expecting somewhere between five to ten million handsets so clearly launch numbers are on the high end of most people’s expectations. Needles to say, following the company’s announcement this morning, $AAPL has surged toward $500 in pre-market trading. And now, encouraged by its own strong numbers, the Cupertino firm has increased its quarterly revenue guidance…(...) Pricier iPhone 5s’s popularity triple that of iPhone 5c Posted: 23 Sep 2013 07:32 AM PDT We’ve already heard field reports suggesting the iPhone 5s was outselling the colorful iPhone 5c. Now comes hard after the first weekend of sales for Apple’s two new iPhones. The new flagship 5s smartphone is more than three times as popular as the less expensive 5c, according to one analytics firm Monday. While both of the handsets represent 1.36 of all activated iPhones in the US, the lion’s share goes to the iPhone 5s, with 1.05 percent of all Apple smartphones activated by the country’s top four wireless carriers. By contrast, the iPhone 5c is far behind in adoption, representing just 0.31 percent of activated US iPhones…(...) On iOS 7 launch day, Internet traffic spiked 112% Posted: 23 Sep 2013 07:07 AM PDT As part of its announcement of the nine million iPhone 5s/5c sales during the opening weekend, Apple also mentioned this morning that 200 million customers have upgraded to iOS 7 since its release last Wednesday. In fact, the mobile operating system has experienced such a rapid adoption that it may have been responsible for a spike of up to 112 percent in last Wednesday’s Internet traffic. Among traffic hotspots were the US and UK, which have the highest rate of iPhone usage. Just how much traffic are we talking about? Some 2.2 terabytes of data per second spread over 6.3 million downloads per hour, according to one estimate…(...) Apple extends in-store Personal Pickup to new iPhone 5s/5c Posted: 23 Sep 2013 06:39 AM PDT Apple just said it sold nine million new iPhone 5s/5c units during the opening weekend and warned that many online orders will ship “in the coming weeks” as demand for the flagship iPhone 5s "has exceeded the initial supply". Supply constraints quickly became apparent as shipping estimates on the U.S. online Apple Store for all configurations in the US slipped from 7–10 days to October. In an effort to help would-be shoppers save time, the company’s online store now offers the popular in-store pickup option for the newly launched iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c handsets. Additionally, customers can check Personal Pickup iPhone availability on a per-store basis…(...) "Apple extends in-store Personal Pickup to new iPhone 5s/5c" is an article by iDownloadBlog.com. |
Opening weekend iPhone 5s/5c sales top 9M units, 200M people upgraded to iOS 7 Posted: 23 Sep 2013 05:44 AM PDT It may have taken longer than expected (rattling Wall Street investors in the process), but the official numbers are now in: Apple has managed to move a combined nine million new handsets during the opening weekend. Analysts were expecting thirteen million iPhone 5s/5c units during the first ten days of availability so clearly Wall Street has reasons to celebrate. Indeed, investors have given the stock a much-needed boost as $AAPL inched toward $500 in pre-market trading. In addition, Apple said that 200 million people have upgraded their devices to iOS 7 since its public release last Wednesday, September 18. During its September 10 keynote, Tim Cook said Apple will ship its 700 millionth iOS device next month…(...) Hacker group bypasses Apple’s Touch ID with ‘fake finger’ technique Posted: 23 Sep 2013 03:26 AM PDT A group of German hackers called the Chaos Computer Club has reportedly figured out a way to bypass Apple’s new Touch ID fingerprint sensor using a variation of the long-running ‘fake finger’ technique. The method involves taking a high resolution photo of the original user’s fingerprint, printing it on a transparent sheet with a thick toner setting, and then filling it in with pink latex milk. Apple airs new iPhone 5c ad ‘Greetings’ Posted: 23 Sep 2013 01:21 AM PDT Apple posted a new commercial to its YouTube channel earlier this evening. It’s called ‘Greetings,’ and it depicts a number of people from various walks of life using the just-released iPhone 5c. The ad is a major departure from Apple’s marketing strategy in its first two 5c spots, which featured no dialogue, catchy music, and a focus on the plastic handset. This one is all about the users…(...) "Apple airs new iPhone 5c ad ‘Greetings’" is an article by iDownloadBlog.com. |
