Works for me on OS X 10.8.5 and Chrome 27.0. Click on one thumbnail on the left and they all expand.

Apple's 8" iPad mini came out last year, or did you mean something else?

Yep, it's there. But it is tiny and on the left side of the screen, so click to enlarge. Neat tips.

Happened again last night. In Energy Saver I don't have "Put hard disks to sleep when possible" checked, and I do have "Enable Power Nap while plugged into a power adapter" checked, which is supposed to allow the Mac to perform Time Machine backups (and has for months).

Again, the drive won't even eject. I'm performing another repair as we speak, but I think I will chicken out and look for a new external drive. Any suggestions? Again, I'm running a MBP Retina so can consider USB 3.0 and Thunderbolt, if one of those would make a big difference. Although, I don't think I could use those with my mid-2010 MBP if I needed to restore to that machine.

Thanks.

Jim

Each time, that fixed it for some time (although I lost all those backups).

It still happens every week or two, but I do this every time it gives that error report and Time Machine chugs merrily on again. (Note: I have Energy Saver set to sleep hard disks when possible, and I think the disk's sleep status is involved but I haven't checked that since the method I use to correct the issue works.)

The drive is a LaCie 2 TB USB 2.0 drive, closing in on three years old. It is used for nothing other than Time Machine backups. Is it dying? If so, what are your recommended replacements? With the new Retina I can now consider USB 3.0 and Thunderbolt, if one of those would make a big difference.

I also run:
http://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/ipadsuperdeep/info
which is a quiet but advanced group for people with really tough iPad
questions not answered elsewhere.

Yeah if I managed that group Kris manages I would start a separate
[iPadCoffeeHouse] for off topics and funnel it all there, but Kris manages
[iPad] for "super social" style and I help moderate but do so according to
his standards not mine.

I see that one has had a lifetime total of 77 postings, including 22 in the last 22 months, the last of which was 8 months ago.

Does your Google group have more traffic?

When people ask questions we answer them. They are both new and over
time will get busier. I don't promote them too hard but am about to
start promoting them more.

But its actually a function of people asking questions.
[IpadSuperDeep] you ask and you get detailed answers but there is not
a lot of chatter for its own sake. Join us and ASK and you will get
answers.

The GoogleGroup is only 2 days old but I hope to get it to be as busy
as some of my other groups i.e. 10 messages - 20 messages on weekdays
once we get going with the right questions.

What i tend to do is to when people ask questions if I or the existing
members can't answer them I quickly recruit people that can answer
them. Its a quality vs, Quantity approach.

Alas, for iOS7, requires iTunes 11.1.

The wailing and gnashing of teeth shall begin. The curtain is slowly lowering on beautiful old technology.

A pastel curtain is rising.

For me to poop on.

Poupon is grey, not pastel, isn't it?

I understand that if I install Snow Leopard on my new used MacBook, I'll be able to use some of the apps that got shelved after PPCs. I have the Leopard/iWorkiLife bundle and am wondering if a downloaded Snow Leopard upgrade will allow for choosing Rosetta or do I have to install Snow Leopard from a disc. Does anyone here have experience with this?

The iWork/iLife bundle is Universal and works on PPC and Intel. I bought
mine (with 10.5) in 2009, used it on PPC Macs until this year, and now use
it on my MacBook Pro (actually the MBP came with a new iLife so it's just
the iWork apps that were migrated). No need for Rosetta.

This is only my opinion. I suggest that you partition a hard drive into a smaller Snow Leopard and a larger Mountain Lion partition. I did this recently on an external HD. Mountain Lion (ML) to me is a great OS to use everyday. It is repair free and fast seemingly. If you want to work in SL, boot from it's partition. Once I installed SL on the partition, as I started up a PPC app, SL asked me to download and install Rosetta. It was all automatic through there system once I said yes. SL runs all the PPC apps I used to value. I have kept my old system installer discs for just this occasion.

If you have a recent ("new") MacBook, the oldest version of Mac OS X that you can run on it is the version that it came with.

Or, to put it another way, unless your MacBook came with Snow Leopard (or earlier), you can't run Snow Leopard. (At least without resorting to some shenanigans, like running virtualization software.)

However, your copy of iLife might still work under a more recent version of OS X. I'm running a very old version of iLife just fine.
