Oh, 2 e-ports? I had only seen 1, but maybe that was the previous model.

I'll take another look...

Thanks, Otto. Good data.

Happy Holidays,
Dave

The Airport Express has two Ethernet ports:

While there are lots of print servers, and some of them say that they work with the Mac, my experience is that none of them work.

The Airport Express works.

I will admit to not having tried the new Airport Express yet.

However, in my experience with dual-USB to Ethernet servers, they will invariably do only 1 * HDD with 1 * Printer.

I've yet to strike one that will do 2 * HDD or 2 * Printer correctly.

Having said that, could you not use a small 2 port USB hub connected to a single USB-Ethernet server?

Not sure if it would work, but it's worth a try.

Would an Airport Extreme not do the job?

Yes it would. But it provides more E-ports and wireless which in my office I don't need so additional expense for unused features.

I was looking for an Ethernet-only router with USB printer port. It could be 10/100 speed so probably can be had cheep.

But I'm leaning toward the Express, as that has exactly what I need (albeit with WiFi also). Only down-side: this model is so new no used items are available on CraigsList.

Thanks,
Dave

Are you also keeping a lookout on the Apple refurb store?

Would you really not find Wi-Fi useful?

My 27" iMac just started taking 20-30 seconds to go to sleep mode.
Even if there are no active apps, it is still taking that long.
I have repaired permissions, restarted, cleaned out my browsers, restarted,
and it is still taking this long to go to sleep.

Everything appears to be working normally, but obviously, it is laboring to
put itself to sleep.

There is lots of available memorable and hard disk space.

Any ideas?

Computer sleep is dependent on two items in your system preference. One is Desktop & Screen Saver and the other is the Energy Saver. If they are not set in a logical flow then you will not get the results that you want. However, if these two controls have not been changed then I am not sure why the change from what you originally had.

Thanks, Forrest, I checked them just in case something seemed different,
unchecked options just to see if that might be a problem.

Just looked in the Downloads folder. Looks like someone added Flash Player
for OSX, and DIRECTV Player 8.0.
Sheesh I wonder if the Flash Player is causing the delayed sleep mode? I
manually put it to sleep (it is not scheduled)

Yes, it could be something running in the background that would prevent it from going to sleep. However, I don't think that either one of those apps by themselves would cause a delay. Now if something was utilizing Flash Player, yes that would cause a delay.

You just added another possibility to this problem. What do you mean by "someone" added! Is there more than one person using this computer? If so, are you sure they did not make changes to the Energy Saver?

Take a look at this article from Apple & see if it offers some help:

Part of the problem is an album I made with jewelry photographs, there are more than 2000 photos in it. How do I get it out of my cloud so I can backup my devices? I actually have several albums like this that I don't need access to on my ipad or iphone. There is also a slide show that needs to not be there. I still want the photos. If I delete the album will this delete the photographs or just put them back into the events folders by date? I don't want them there either, as they are scattered throughout my events/photographs and it took awhile to get them all into the album. I hope I am making myself clear. On my computer in Finder I have placed all the jewelry photos in a folder called Beads. They are not scattered around the computer.

Would you like to make a copy of this photo now?"adding still another photo to my computer!

Does anyone here happen to have a copy of Quark 9.1 or know someone who does who's not using it anymore and would sell it to me cheap or even give it away? :-) I have Quark 7 which won't run on Lion so I have to switch back and forth between my new computer and the old one when I need to use Quark. I use Quark so seldom anymore that I don't want to spend much to get a newer version, but do sometimes do need it, and using it on my new computer instead of my older, slower one would be so much better. I'm in Norcross, GA, USA.

Or, do you know how I can find this version for cheap?

Hi everyone! I have a cool suggestion for a reasonably priced stocking-stuffer type of gift for Christmas. Let me first get to the "what is it" and then I'll explain why I'm the one selling them.

I have USB flash drives. But not just any USB flash drives. These USB flash drives are disguised as little toys. You really have to see these to appreciate how cool these are. I have:

-one that's a transformer (that really transforms into a cheeta!)
Picture: http://www.macattorney.com/transformer.html

- one that looks (and feels) like a small bar of pure gold
Picture: http://www.macattorney.com/goldbar.html

- one that looks like a watermelon slice
Picture: http://www.macattorney.com/watermelon.html

- one that looks like a camera [Store your photos on this one and you will never again wonder which flash drive has the photos!]
Picture: http://www.macattorney.com/camera.html

- one that looks like an ice cream bar on a stick
Picture:
http://www.macattorney.com/popsicle.html

They are all 8GB drives, except for the watermelon slice one which is a 4GB drive. The popsicle and the camera drives have loops to allow them to be attached to a keychain. All are easily pocketable and they are all rugged.

The are going for $18 each, which includes shipping via U.S. Postal service. Two [shipped together] for $30.

Now...why am I selling these? My daughter is in high school, and she is in a program called Junior Achievement. In that program the kids learn about business. They start a business, and sell a product. My daughter's company decided to sell these really cool little USB flash drives. But after the program ended, there were flash drives left over.

Fortunately, they chose something that is quite desirable and reasonably priced. I carry one of the gold bars in my pocket myself. It's really cool just to hold it in my hand now and then. It's slick, like real gold, and weighted so that it is heavy like gold. I like how people gawk when I stick what looks like a little bar of gold into my laptop.

And the camera flash drive looks just like a miniature camera--a terrific gift for the photographer!

If you'd like one or more of these, please send me a check (we aren't set up for credit cards or anything else) to:

Randy Singer
17 Lapis Ct.
Sacramento, CA 95835

Please tell me which of the models you want, and *please* be sure to include your shipping address.

I leave Safari open for days at a time with many web pages loaded in several associated tabs. For example I have 25 pages open, each with between 1 and 6 tabs each.

Today when I rotated (Command-Tab) through the pages, all was as expected: all pages look normal. But when I rotate through the tabs on any page (Cmd-Aphostrophe), each page reloaded.

I don't remember this ever being the case.

The mac mini was not sleeping, although the screen is set to black out and require the password after many minutes of non-use.

Any ideas why all these pages were reloaded when accessed? I can understand a few (it's up to the page code when and how often the page reloads, but every one of these pages (except the ones on the front-most tab of each page) reloaded.

Thanks, and
Happy Holidays,
Dave
