Hi Hal,
This is happening when I open a file using the Photoshop "Open" option. The bridge feature (new to me) folder remain open when selecting files.Other programs So far, this issue is limited to Photoshop.
Like I said, I'm just now emerging from the dark ages so many CS5 features are brand new to me.
ANy ideas?
Thanx
Rob

Rob,
Are you sure the other image closes as you say? By default, Photoshop now opens new images in tabs. If you want, you can click on the newly opened image tab and drag it away from the other one. You can also change the way Photoshop handles this by making a permanent change in the preferences so that all images always open up in its own window.
Is this what you mean?

For me, running OS 10.7.5 (Lion) and CS5, after I open a file using the PS "open" command, the folder window closes, but when I click on "open" in PS again, the same window opens by default, so I don't have to navigate folders to get to the next file in the same folder.
Regarding your question about selecting more than one file so you don't have to keep using the "open" dialog for each image, hold down the shift key to open sequential files. That is, click on the first file to select it, then press/hold the shift key and move the cursor to the last file in the column that you want to open, and click on it. All of the files in between will be selected. Double click any one of the selected files to open them all. If the files you want to open are all in the same folder, but not in sequence,
click on the first file to select it, then hold the "command" key and click on another file.
Regarding the grayed out "close" button; the window is open because you navigated to it in PS, so you're in a Photoshop dialog, not the Finder. If you want to leave the folder you can either navigate to the folder your file is in, or cancel the "open" command. No other way to close the folder.

launchd is a protocol in your Mac's underlying Unix for scheduling things. i.e. if you want a program to run daily at a certain time.
It looks like you have Macaroni installed, and that it is set to do something at a certain time, but that it can't find the file that tells it when to do it.
You can probably fix the problem by completely uninstalling Macaroni (which may require an installer program).

I recently bought a Canoscan 5600F. I can't recall what I paid, but it wasn't too much. Works great with my iMac.

Flatbed only, or do you need it to have a sheetfeeder?

Yes and no, by this I mean that Flash is still needed to run programs like YouTube, but even YouTube is converting to HTML5. There is a movement to move all the motion programs to HTML5 which Apple likes as it does not require as much computer time as Flash does. However, if you keep up with the latest Flash releases you should not have any problems.

Applications should be in the application folder. The question I would have is how do you access this program if not thru the application folder?

When you say "Pages," are you talking about open windows, each of which has tabs open? I have never heard the term "pages" applied to Safari, and am sincerely trying to find out if I have totally missed out on some important feature.

My sister and I want to get my mom an iPad G3 for Christmas. My mom lives here in this town in the winter, but in North Dakota in the summer. She has AT&T here and it works well, but AT&T is not a very good option in ND - it's Verizon country. Also, she has her cell on my other sister's Verizon plan.
Question: Can we get her the iPad 2 set up for Verizon and leave it as wifi only until May when she goes to ND? Then she'd have my daughter add the iPad to their Verizon account. Dear son-in-law said it was fine, $10 or $20 on their bill (with two teens) will be nothing. It's $30 to add her to mine, it's $30 to add her to her own AT&T (with spotty ND service) - I'll add her to mine if necessary but I'd rather go with my kids' plan. Can it be done that way?
