Same here, Hal. And it's with all the Yahoo groups I go to (many), not just MacSupport. It's like they have a password check or an extra cookie block set up there. Sometimes it just times out. It's been going on since their last upgrade or clean-up a few (2 or 3) weeks ago.

I just tried the link I posted in my previous message and got in straight
away, as usual. I think this must be browser-related. I'm using Safari
5.0.6, the latest available for 10.5.8. I don't think I have any unusual
settings.

I don't know if itis related but I have been experiencing very slow service and failures to connect from Yahoo for over a month. This occurs with both groups and Yahoo email.

It's fast enough at the moment - (a tiny stall and then it picks it up - total of maybe 3 seconds) - I'm on Safari 6.0.2 using OS 10.8.2.

I tried logging in after finding the hidden small letters and got in
fairly quick. What's the deal with no log out link? First they don't
want you in then they won't let you leave without closing browser tab.

I see a little arrow next to my name in the upper left corner, choosing that
gets a menu with a sign-out option.
I don't know what you mean by 'small letters' and having any sign-in
problems.
I'm using Win7/IE and usually go to group-sites by clicking the link at the
bottom of messages I've downloaded (WLM). Sometimes I have to sign-back-in
but that's the only hitch I've run into & that's not really a "hitch".
I don't often go to group-sites except when I want to post something in a
group that I get in digest.

No problems here. I go to the sites of several Yahoo groups
regularly. For a while I stay signed in, but that doesn't last
forever. So I just sign in again, and all is well.
Maybe it helps that I clear my browser cache regularly. I need to do
so to get around problems on another site, unrelated to Yahoo.
Happily, email from Yahoo groups, including Mac Support Central,
seems to be flowing quite well--overall fewer Yahoo glitches than in
the past.

I have my homepage in Safari 6.0.2 set to http://groups.yahoo.com/mygroups.
This page has been very slow in loading for at least a month. Just tried it twice and the page came up in 17 & 22 seconds. That's on the fast side of what's been "normal" this year. Of course you never measure the time when the page loads quickly - I would guess 2-4 seconds back in November. I have not had problems with login.
I've been blaming my ISP. HawaiianTel is working on wet lines the first 1,000 feet from the central office. They will bump my DSL up to the advertised 7.5+ Mbps if I call. Then over the course of a couple days it gets kicked back by line monitoring hardware in small steps to just over 5 Mbps at which rate the hardware thinks its an acceptable error rate.
I have message delivery set to traditional individual email to my ISP email address so I never see how slow Yahoo is in that department.

Safari 6.0.2 (8536.26.17) in ML. Like I said, I can go anywhere on the internet immediately w Safari 6.0.2, except Yahoo Groups or Yahoo Mail, which works maybe once in 3-5 tries. Don't think it's cache related as I am constantly clearing cache and emptying cookies on quit.
But I am surprised to hear that others don't have the situation like the rest of us. I'm on a Comcast Cable connection direct from the Comcast box. Surfing anywhere else is lightning fast.
I'll say let's end the topic as it is OT. Thanks. jr

They can.
They just need to use the same account they use for the group.
From the message, it appears he hasn't even tried tho.
