When I click on "new tab" it goes to my homepage, which is blank.
Under Preferences > General
Startup
When Firefox starts [ Show a blank page] from the selections offered
Home Page: type in: about: blank
... the rest does not matter here.
Under Preferences > Tabs
My Tab preferences are selected as follows:
The 1st, 3rd and 6th boxes are ticked; the others left blank
Under the Finder Menu Bar at the Top > View > Toolbars
Only the first 3 are checked; and I have them customized with a few
options you can add yourself.
This works for me.
At least start there with a blank page and add things on as you like.
SnowLeopard 10.6.8, Firefox 18.0.2 MacPro Westmere
===
When I open a New Window in Firefox, it opens my home page.
When I open a New Tab, it shows me the "favorites"
t; page (I think that's what it's called): 9 web page previews.
I've played with the Preferences settings and can't seem to get the Home
Page to show when opening a New Tab.
Can I do this? How?
Thanks,
Dave

I am not sure it's possible. Chrome behaves the same way -- a new *tab*
gives you favorites rather than your designated home page.

Tigerdirect.com has a good price on an OEM SATA internal 14x LG Blu-Ray
writer (model WH14NS40) for $60 USD. As it is OEM, it comes bare-bones; no
software. Has anyone used any Mac Blu-Ray ripping software that you can
recommend?

As Blu-ray "ripping" is illegal in the US, manufacturers don't provide software for this. Playing and ripping Blu-ray on Macs is particularly difficult as Mac OSX does not support Blu-ray video. There are only a few apps (not made in the US) for this and they are not particularly user friendly. AnyDVD HD for Windows is the grand-daddy of ripping and works with Blu-ray.
Frankly, it's easier and slightly less illegal (if there is such a thing) to download via a torrent service.
Again, in full disclosure, ripping a Blu-ray is illegal under the Digital Millenium Copyright Act. There is no "Fair Use" exception since it is the ACT of ripping itself that is illegal, not the violation of copyright.

OUCH. It looks like there is no more backup provision for legally obtained
DVDs/Blu-Rays.

Not unless the manufacturer provides one. It is possible to make backup copies, even on a Mac. The tools are available, but limited.
The legal issue is complicated. It is not necessarily illegal to make a backup, per se. In theory, making a backup of owned material would be "fair use" under established precedent. The specific issue with Blu-ray discs is that the DMCA makes the act of bypassing "digital" encryption illegal, and all Blu-ray discs have digital encryption. It is a required part of the format. The only way you can avoid the DMCA pitfall would be to copy without bypassing the encryption. This is not impossible, but it is hard. For instance, you can point a camera at your screen or use screen capture hardware (though you need Mac player software which is very limited). Or you can record the analog component video output (on some decks) which is not encrypted but also not full HD, and not easy.
While the problem with regular DVDs is similar, the software to rip these is common and easy to use, and not all DVDs are encrypted. Encryption is not a required part of the DVD format and it is costly. The "component" method of copying works great with DVDs. It's arguably better qualitatively than ripping.

Howdy.
You should distinguish between the GUID partition table and the HFS
Extended hard drive format. Two different things.
The GUID partition table is required when you intend to install a Mac
OS X system (required for a boot drive) on an Intel based Macintosh.
On a G5 PowerMac you don't need to do a GUID partition table.
You should format and use the Apple Partition Map partition table if
you will be installing a Mac OS X Tiger system for a G5.
The info item in my Disk Utility (Lion) says: "Apple Partition Map.
To use the disk to start up a PowerPC based Mac, or to use the disk as
a non-startup disk with any Mac."
I no longer have a Tiger based Mac on hand so I can refresh my memory
on these topics. So if I aim you in the wrong direction hopefully a
group member will redirect my bad aim and memory.
When you do the format of the HD in the BlacX (I have two BlacXes) you
will likely need to choose the actual HD item in Disk Utility rather
than selecting the indented volume name that appears under each hard
drive listed.
Choosing the actual HD item then lets you click the Partition tab.
Here's where I can't remember what the Tiger Disk Utility looks like.
You will then likely need to change the partition layout from the
current partition to 1 partition. When you change the partition layout
to 1 Partition the Options… button becomes available and this is where
you can pick the Apple Partition Map.

Disk Utility. Go to Partitions (not Erase). Create a new partition. (GUID applies to the partition). Set the drive format to Mac OS extended (HFS+) journaled. Look for the "Options" button below the partition map. Open this and select GUID from these options.
All drives specifically intended for Macs at 10.4 or higher should be partitioned this way by default: GUID partition, HFS+ format.
The other options are for Windows and old Macs.
The "journaled" part is optional but it is recommended by Apple and has no real downside except in extreme performance situations like professional video editing.

Howdy.
Some things may not always transfer.
Check System Preferences to see if there is a Logitech item that you
need to open in order to establish new settings. If not, then you
might download and install the Logitech Panel, if it has one. I bet it
does.
You can also check your Network panel in System Preferences. You may
need to "Forget" or delete your listed WiFi/wireless network in System
Preferences > Network and then reconnect using the password for the
encryption method you originally established.

I need help - fast. My HP 3970 scanner can no longer be "found39;.
I moved the connection from an old G4 (10.4)to an iMac with Snow leopard (10.6.8)I just bought. Although the iMac itself 'saw' the linkup, the software could not make a connection. SO - I reconnected back to my old G4 only to discover it could no longer 'see' the scanner either.
I did all the usual unplug/replug/re-power tricks but no good. Even ran Disk Warrior 4.4.4. which found no problems. Now the HP Precision Pro software won't even launch on the G4. I reloaded the scanner software from the original disk, but that did nothing.
Any ideas? I have a report I got from the HP software regharding the error if someone wants to look it over.
Oh, and is there anyway I can get Rosetta for the iMac to try connecting the scanner again on that one? The guy I bought the iMAc from didn't give me the install disk.
Help?

I find I need to support two firewire devices on my Mac, and it has
only one such port.
Does anyone make a Firewire Hub?
Or, a converter that would convert Firewire to USB?
Thanks in advance!
