I suspect you are thinking of *force* Empty Trash (Option key), which won't
be any quicker in this case.

Please wait until someone can reply with a safe answer. It might be me, but
it's late here and I don't want to rush this.

The Unix rm command can be *deadly* when used with the recursive option and
lack of experience!

Thank you Otto, I will wait. I really do appreciate that you realize that I
do not know what I am doing.

From the man (i.e. manual) file:
NAME
rm, unlink -- remove directory entries

SYNOPSIS
rm [-dfiPRrvW] file ...
unlink file

DESCRIPTION
The rm utility attempts to remove the non-directory type files specified
on the command line. If the permissions of the file do not permit writ-
ing, and the standard input device is a terminal, the user is prompted
(on the standard error output) for confirmation.

The options are as follows:

-d Attempt to remove directories as well as other types of
files.

-f Attempt to remove the files without prompting for confirma-
tion, regardless of the file's permissions. If the file does
not exist, do not display a diagnostic message or modify the

Assuming there is a hierarchy involved what you want to do is type rm -d and then a space. Note the space before the f. Then drag whatever files you want to delete into the window and hit return. That should work.

It is just about perfect. It is cordless, but it lasts for a year on only one AA battery. It feels great in the hand, and it tracks (optically) beautifully. The receiver is tiny and won't clutter up your desktop. At the price you can't beat it.

Two questions:

1) Does it have a tilt scroll wheel? My recently acquired Logitech
M525 does. Feels great in the hand, tracks beautifully, just like you
say the M310 does.

2) How easy is it to replace the battery? When I got the M525 (from
an online merchant), I was really pleased to see that a good-sized
piece of the top of the mouse detaches, and the 2 AA batteries are
right there, easy to replace. This was great because on the Microsoft
5000 mouse it replaced, the batteries went in and out through a
rectangular hatch that was a bit shorter than the length of the
batteries. Getting the first battery in wasn't too bad (I angled it
at bit); getting the second one in was a pain. How does the M310
compare in this regard? I ask because I may be in the market for a
mouse for another computer of mine.

Yes. Go to apple menu / System Preferences / Mouse.
Check the battery level.
I suspect it might be really low.

You DO keep a lot of AA batteries around the house, don't you?

I've been better at turning my mouse switch off overnight, but it's
batteries are amazingly short lived.

No, just the standard scroll-wheel.

Since it was dead easy to install the first battery, I'm assuming that it will be just as easy to replace it.

Buy some low self-discharge rechargeables like the Sanyo Eneloop and you
will hugely reduce your battery costs!

I can only say that no one should rely on just one backup system/volume.

Do you really have nothing more recent? Your TM backups were wiped last
year and iCal has been missing those entries all the time since then?

Yes, but *something* changed Daly's and my setting without our knowledge. I
was fortunate in that I have backups that cover just about anything, but
not everyone has that.

I turned off Java several months ago & have never had a problem running speedtest.net nor Google.

I used Zoom Browser, which I think is related to Canon, and Photoshop. I don't like either program, as well as iPhoto.
Carol

You can simply connect the Book (I assume that's a Western Digital MyBook)
to the Mac and copy the pictures over using Finder. Finder is the Mac
equivalent of Windows Explorer. Just drag them to the Desktop to start
with.

You can then decide if you want them in iPhoto.

Which photo app, if any, did you use in Windows?

So, assuming you know where the photo folder is, you can simply drag it
from the external to the Mac.

I know it's too late now, but you should have tried Picasa on the PC. ;)
