Some months ago I noticed that my calendar in iCal had lost previous years of data. I had calendar entries going back a month or two, but all previous years were blank.

I assumed it was from a system update or from starting to synch with iCloud, and expected it to be okay going forward.

But today I again had to find a past event and discovered that I have almost exactly one month of entries and everything earlier than January 24 is blank.

I do use iCloud for synching. But I hope and expect that using iCloud doesn't mean that I can't keep my calendar's events from the past.

Has anyone seen and solved this issue?

Daly

Hi:
But it was shared with the group. I learned it on this list, and everyone who reads this list would have seen it here also.
I am new to Mac, from decades of PC, so this stuff is logical … but different. It's not part of my genetics yet :-)
Now I am hoping to find an answer to why I can't delete email from one of my lists. It tells me there email is read-only. Ideas?
Thanks,
Carol

Aw, so all you wanted to do was to move the spam to your junk folder, and you found the "Mark this message as Junk" icon.

Too bad the resolution wasn't shared with the group so others can learn from it.

I looked and could not find the response that gave you the answer.

How are you reading the email that you want to delete? Mail.app, gmail, web mail or what?

Yes, the biggest difference between a PC and Mac is the vocabulary.

BTW 3 periods (can't remember the term) on this list appear as an epsilon or sum symbol.

Read this link for related problem w mail that won't delete. Seems to work for them, but it happened several years ago:

https://discussions.apple.com/message/5838875#5838875

> In reading mail, I find that I am unable to delete. I get a message that says "The IMAP command 'UID COPY' (to Deleted Messages) failed for the mailbox 'INBOX' with server error. UID COPY failed - Destination mailbox is examined as read-only."

I received updates from Apple today to update Java SE 6 to 1.6.0_41

and

from Oracle to update to Java 7 Update 15.

Does anyone know which I should be using for good security on a Mac or is there no difference?

Thanks

My approach was simply to remove Java from my computer.
Since then, I haven't found anything that I needed that required Java.

The Apple update will enable you to run Java apps locally on your Mac. The Oracle component is needed if you want to use Java as a plugin in your browser.
Running a known Java app locally, with no connection made to the internet, should be safe. I would strongly advise against installing the Oracle component at this time, though.

Howdy.

AbiWord is a GNU open source word processor.

Here is a link to download version 2.4.5 of AbiWord for Macintosh.

http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/11511/abiword>

I've used AbiWord in the past.

The current version of AbiWord requires Rosetta to run so this limits
it to Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard and earlier OS X versions.

Rosetta is an invisible "code translator" that allows programs coded
for PowerPC Macs to run on Intel Macs. Rosetta is no longer available
for Mac OS X 10.7 Lion or Mac OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion.

Thank Tod. I tried your suggestion, but when I want to share a link, I am still being kicked over to the PARALLELS program. Any other ideas to try?

I am looking for a thin bluetooth keyboard for the iPad. The thinner the better. I saw the "Logitech Ultrathin Keyboard Cover to iPad 2 and iPad (3rd/4th generation)" on Amazon, but I don't know if that means it would fit the new iPad (is that 4G?). Anyone have any experience with this or a better suggestion?
