This is totally trivial, but it annoys me. The Calendar icon in my Dock has a red circle with the number "1" in its upper right corner and I have no idea what it means. Google has not been any help. Does anybody know?

Howdy.

I'm not sure this will answer your question.

You may be seeing a "Reminder," or, a "Notification," alert.

I'm not sure.

How to deal with it may depend on your version of iCal.

Here's a link that might help but I think this is for older versions of
iCal.

I've googled this and searched at Apple support, but have not found an answer.

My old 500GB Time Capsule has now gone into fits while trying to maintain backups for two MacBooks. The disk is full, and so has to go into deleting old backups, which is really time consuming and delays backups of current data. What I want to do is to add a new 2TB TC to backup the more active MacBook and let the older 500GB TC continue to handle the less active MacBook, after moving the more active MacBook' s backups to the newer larger TC.

What I haven't been able to find is how to migrate the TC backups for one MacBook to the new TC, then clean off the backups from the old TC. Links to documents on how to do that are gratefully appreciated.

Thanks.

Here's another suggestion....
Why not take the offending drive out of the G4 and keep it; put it in a
case and use it as an external drive. Then you can reformat it at your
leisure, or use it to access all those old files.
Drives are so cheap, let the beneficiary of your goodwill put in a new
or used drive, or you could assist if you can.....
That would solve a few of the issues and steps you are currently
undertaking.... just a thought.

Thanks for that suggestion, Jurgen.

I moved the files I wanted that were on the G4 to Drop Box. And I already
have three external hard drives that I back up to. So, I really don't need
another external drive. I just want to get rid of the box and free up space
in my office.

I think I'll disconnect the G4 from its power supply and let it sit for a
day or two. Maybe something will reset and I'll be able to put it in to TD
mode again.

Is there a "free" virus protection that I can download for my Mac OS X
version 10.7.5?

Thanks if you have a suggestion,
George

George, I've used Avast http://www.avast.com/free-antivirus-mac> for years
-- on PCs, -- and for about a year on my Mac, and like it, for a variety of
reasons. It's free, uses a small amount of memory, doesn't conflict with
other programs, and is reasonably effective.

It's free because Avast uses us -- non-commercial users -- as testers to
catch viruses in the wild. Avast then puts the virus signature into their
data base for sale to commercial customers. I think this is a fair
trade-off ...Jim
