CFI Tools Takeoff and Landing Distance App Adds 9 New Models - Published on 09/08/13
IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Virginia based CFI Tools has announced the latest upgrade to its popular collection of aviation Apps for iOS and Android devices. Nine new aircraft have been added to the Takeoff and Landing App. This App allows pilots to easily calculate takeoff and landing distances for their airplane based on the current conditions for the flight. Including the most popular general aviation aircraft manufacturers, this brings to 37 the number of aircraft now supported by the T&L App.
Herndon, Virginia - Herndon, Virginia - CFI Tools announced today the latest upgrade to the Takeoff & Landing App. The T&L App allows pilots to easily calculate takeoff & landing distances for their airplane based on the current conditions for the flight. This App is a component of the CFI Tools General Aviation App for iPad and iPhone and is also in the Android CFI Tools Toolbox and T&L Apps.
To make this process easier the T&L App downloads the current weather conditions from the National Weather Service (NWS) and combines it with airport and airplane data to make the calculations. This aviation weather data, known as a METAR, is the standard weather report supplied for thousands of airports worldwide.
Pilots are required by FAA regulation to calculate expected takeoff and landing distances for each flight. These calculations require current weather reports including temperature, wind direction and speed and air pressure. The T&L App gathers this information from internet sources as and uses it with generic guidance from airplane owner's handbooks to make the calculations. With this information it makes a useful training device for pilots who must make these calculations.
"The T&L App has become the aviation industry standard on iPad, iPhone, iPod, Android devices and we are happy to add the nine popular models to the fleet," said CFI Tools founder Brian Best. "These models are now in the App due to popular demand from pilots who have seen the App in action. We will continue this expansion with more widely used GA aircraft."
This addition of the the Cessna 162 Sky Catcher, Cessna 172-A Diamond DA 40D Diesel, Piper PA-24-260B Comanche, Piper PA-28R-180 Arrow I, Piper PA-28R-201 Arrow III Flaps 25, Piper PA-32-301 Saratoga 3-Blade, Piper PA-32RT-300T Turbo Lance II and the Piper PA-44-180 Seminole brings to 37 the number of aviation aircraft now supported by the T&L App. CFI Tools expects to continue this expansion based on aircraft popularity and customer requests. This list includes the most popular general aviation aircraft manufacturers including Beechcraft, Cessna, Cirrus, Diamond, Grumman, Mooney, Piper and Socata.

High School Physics Teachers' App Earns Place in Apple Stores Nationwide - Published on 09/09/13
IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Apple has its eye on Step2Step Physics. With back-to-school time underway, the computer giant is featuring Step2Step Physics - Mechanics on in-store iPads around the country. The app, created by four high school physics teachers, is designed to walk a beginning physics student through classical physics problems, addressing common misconceptions and fixing student errors. It is also one of seven "Applying Physics" apps currently featured on iTunes.
Highland Park, Illinois - Apple has its eye on Step2Step Physics.
Step2Step Physics has an interesting story. In the spring of 2012, one of the teachers learned that his physics students would receive iPads in the coming school year. Not finding an app that his students needed, he taught himself to program. In August, 2012, he and his fellow teachers released "Step2Step Physics - Mechanics" for iPad, their first app. In the subsequent months the team produced two more iOS apps, an interactive iBook, a popular iTunes U course, a revolutionary new quizzing system, countless web apps for their students, and a company, Nerd Island Studios, LLC.
iPads are changing these teachers' classrooms in dramatic ways. Step2Step has been a substantial part of this change, with the students using Step2Step scoring higher on certain questions than the students without it. With the app, students can take better responsibility for their own understanding. They "know what to do when they don't know", and this makes a huge difference.
"Step2Step Physics - Mechanics" Features:
* 38 question types covering topics in Newtonian mechanics, the first semester of a typical high school or college algebra-based physics course
* Intelligent feedback on each step, tailored to specific incorrect answers
* Multiple user accounts on each device, with progress tracked independently
* Can be used by a single user, or as part of a 1:1 classroom environment
Device Requirements:
* Compatible with iPad
* Requires iOS 6.0 or later
* Size: 46.5 MB
Pricing and Availability:
Step2Step Physics - Mechanics 1.5 is currently $4.99 USD (or equivalent amount in other currencies) and available worldwide exclusively through the App Store in the Education category.
