SmartPlans introduced the concept of "Multi-Planning," where users can create and manage multiple personal projects and fit them into their daily schedules. The new version adds cascading detail views, milestones with alerts, dependent sub-projects, and integration with the iPhone or iPad device calendars.

Seattle, Washington - Left Coast Logic announced the launch of SmartPlans 3.0, a major upgrade to their top-selling personal project planner for iPhone and iPad. SmartPlans introduced the concept of "Multi-Planning," where users can create and manage multiple personal projects and fit them into their daily schedules. The new version adds cascading detail views, milestones with alerts, dependent sub-projects, and integration with the iPhone or iPad device calendars. In its first few days, the new update broke into iTunes "top sellers" list.

Multi-Planning:
To manage multiple projects, users first set how many hours a week they can dedicate to working on projects - assuming they also have other things going on at school, work and at home. For example, I choose to dedicate 20 hours a week to my projects. Then, using an intuitive GANTT chart, I can move and 'resize' entire projects with my fingertips to see how that affects my overall workload. If I have three overlapping projects and they are consuming a total of 30 hours a week, in SmartPlans I can either drag an entire project to a different month in the time-line, or extend the deadline of one or more projects, decreasing the weekly workload to my optimum 20 hours. The result is a realistic balance that fits in with my other daily activities.

Advanced Features:
In SmartPlans 3.0, tasks can be dragged and dropped into groups called Milestones with deadlines based upon where they fit in the project plan. Users can set up alerts several days before a deadline, to help keep them on track. Any Project can also be linked to the Milestone of another project, creating dependency relationships between projects.

Calendar Integration:
SmartPlans 3.0 now integrates with the native iPhone and iPad calendars. It does this by exporting Milestones to the device calendar as "All Day Events" and converting the underlying Tasks to actual calendar appointments, each with special indicators to show that they come from SmartPlans. This makes it easy to view project items in one's normal calendar, integrated with other appointments. By synchronizing those calendars with the company's all-in-one organizers - SmartPad (for iPad) or SmartCal (for iPhone) - it is possible to mange personal projects, appointments, and other to do's all in one place. Projects can also be viewed by other friends, family and colleagues by sharing those calendars via CalDav, Google, Outlook and Exchange.

"If SmartPlans is the forest, then SmartPad and SmartCal are the trees," explains managing partner Michael Jardine. "Now they are connected very sensibly via the iPhone and iPad Calendars. Later this year, we will connect them directly to our free Cloud organizer, SmartDay Web."

Kwalee released V1.0 of Gobang Social in the New Zealand App Store at the beginning of February. This was accompanied with a discussion forum to develop the game into V1.1, which was released 3 weeks later.

Gobang Social is a turn based strategy game that is played with Facebook friends. It is derived from the Asian game Gomoku. Kwalee's fun game is a version of connecting 5 in a row horizontally, vertically or diagonally, in a 12 X 12 matrix that requires strategic thinking. The game is free to buy and free to play.

The new V1.2 release contains many further enhancements including play against random opponents, instant messaging chat, a streamlined user interface, great music and sound effects for a great gaming experience.

Spinlight takes home two Parents' Choice Awards - Published on 03/30/12

Champaign, Illinois - As a kid, Spinlight partner and creative director Matt Hutton remembers seeing the Parents' Choice award on games and books in the family cupboard. As a parent, the mark has become even more meaningful, guiding he and his wife Candace towards quality educational experiences for their two sons. But it wasn't until this week that Hutton would see the same trusted hallmark leading other parents to his company door.

On Thursday, the awards were announced, with Spinlight earning not one, but two Parents' Choice distinctions for two of its biggest sellers - Operation Math and AlphaTots. "It's kind of surreal," says Hutton. "They've been a brand longer than we've been a company. So it's strange that we've created something that's earned this prestigious honor."

In many ways, the big announcement was the icing on the cake for Spinlight, which only began producing apps for the iOS in January of 2011 and has already seen six titles chart on 13 Top 100 lists in nearly 60 countries around the globe.

"Just last week, Apple plugged Operation Math on the main page of the iTunes store in Sweden," says Hutton. "So that tells you how much app development has been a game changer for us."

"Before the iPad, we were a regional company. We were an advertising agency with national clients and national awards, but there weren't really too many people who knew about us outside of Illinois. Now, we're getting interest from all points on the globe. And today's announcement should only help elevate our profile."

What's next for the Spinlight team? According to Hutton, new apps are already in the works. "We've spent a fair amount of time this year updating our existing apps and moving several titles to the Android platform, but we definitely have some great apps on tap." As for the details, Hutton says we'll simply have to stay tuned.

Strong level design makes this game an addictive experience by challenging players with multiple paths to complete levels and items that can both help and hurt the outcome depending on the scenario. It is available now for purchase on the Apple ITunes Store for only $0.99.

The objective of the game is simple: get the marble past the last platform in as little time as possible. What makes this game unique is the clever level design and selection of items. The coolest item is the marble splitter that turns one marble into three. Each marble acts independently, but the physics of the game affects all of them simultaneously making it a challenge to successfully negotiate all the obstacles in the level. Players will often need to go out of their way and put themselves in danger to earn this item, but it will pay off. The only constraint to complete a level is that at least one marble must finish before the time expires. Finishing levels quickly with more marbles results in a higher score. Any additional marble that completes a level adds an extra life.

The basics of the game play are simple. Players tilt the screen to roll the marble in a particular direction. The more the tilt the faster the marble rolls in that direction. Tap the screen and the marble jumps. Each platform has holes in it causing the player to drop to the next platform. Dropping past the last platform completes the level. Along the way the player will encounter mine, oil slick, goo, glue, block, and splitter items. Items are activated by running over them. The mine items are the scariest and are easily recognized as spiky red icons in the level. Hit one of these and your marble explodes with a brilliant flash. If this is the last marble left on the screen you lose a life and must repeat the level. If no more lives remain, then it's game over. The oil slick item causes the physics of the game to accelerate for that marble and consequently the marble moves faster on the screen. This can be helpful if the player has a clear path to the finish or must leap over
several mines at once, but it also makes it easier to miscalculate and hit a stray mine. The oil slick item appears in the game as a thin black rectangle.

The goo item is recognizable by a green blob on the screen. It slows down the game physics for that marble making it easier to control it but also more difficult to leap over consecutive obstacles. Use these items wisely. The glue item causes the marble to get stuck, and it manifests itself in the game as a thin white rectangle. Interestingly enough, this can be helpful to control multiple marbles at once so that a tilt in one direction does not cause another marble to hit a mine. All these items have a use time that expires after a couple seconds. Once the item expires, the physics return to normal for that marble. The final item, the block item, is simple. It is a barrier that stands in the player's way. Hitting it causes the marble to bounce off of it. In later levels block items are strategically placed to make negotiating other obstacles more difficult. The player can spot the block item as a tall white rectangle.

The levels are fast-paced and can be finished in one minute or less. Completing a level saves the player's progress, allowing the player to continue playing at a later time. The levels start real simple at first, but do not be fooled; they will quickly ramp up in difficulty and pose a good challenge to mobile gamers. The initial release contains 26 levels with more to come in future updates. Each level features a unique background and platform foreground color, making certain levels very memorable.

The scoring system in Dropage is fun. Dropping to the next platform adds one hundred points. Completing a level results in one thousand points. Each second left on the clock when the marble finishes results in more points, and the bonus multiplier increases with each level. Additional marbles act independently; so finishing a level with two or three marbles can potentially double or triple the score for that level. If the time runs out after one marble finishes the level, the level is complete but no additional points or lives are earned for any marbles that remain on the scene.

The update leverages the new technology introduced in iOS 5, Notification Center. Now, users can see currency rates in the Lock Screen and in the Notification Center. Even with the app closed, or the iPhone locked, users can see the latest rates of their selected currency pairs. The app provides real-time updates for both traders and individuals and it is a must have for anyone in the import/export business.

Because there are many good reasons to track currency rates besides investing, iCurrency Plus has been designed to provide real-time information for both individuals and investors. Whether users are following a particular currency pair in anticipation of an upcoming trip, getting the best rate possible for this month shipment abroad, or tracking long-term trends as part of portfolio management, the app supplies immediate, authoritative numbers that are easy to access anytime, anywhere.

With the latest update of iCurrency Plus users can set up two different types of notifications. Selecting "Show Rates in the Notification Center" allows users to get up to date information on the currency exchange rate in the Notification Center, no matter what the currency rate is. Alternatively, selecting "Performance Notifications" sends recipients notifications about a change of a rate when its performance has decreased or increased more than a pre-defined percentage over a period of time.

Thanks to the new way that iOS 5.0 treats notifications, users can even get the latest rates on the currencies of their choice on the Lock Screen of their devices. The first notification displayed after the phone is locked comes up as a bubble with the notification message. Should the user receive many notifications, they are displayed in a scrolling list on the Lock Screen. In both cases, sliding the icon on the notification from left to right opens the app where additional charts and details can be viewed.

In addition, notifications received while working in another app are displayed at the top of the screen. Users can continue to receive messages as each notification rolls over to display a new one. Recent updates can be accessed directly from the Notification Center by touching the top of the screen and swiping down while using any other app. Chosen rates are displayed, as well as other important notifications, no other application in the store does this!

Finally, iCurrency Plus includes an integrated Currency Calculator function to instantly convert any amount of one currency into another. Five different colored lights beside each currency pair instantly indicate the status of any notifications. And daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and yearly graphs are all available on the same screen.
