thank you I do have the iPhone 4s. That does solve the problem for me. Thanks again!

Reqall btw seems to be the only ap that offers location based reminders though they want to charge $20 a year - any other app that offers this service free? I'd think that a paid ap should be there which may charge once but not annually.

Excellent. I can then use it a place to store all kinds of articles under various heads instead of laboriously doing cut n paste on the other note aps. Thanks a lot.

Thanks. I am now using it as a searchable storage device for emails and other stuff which I may want to see later - the greatest plus being that you can email directly to it.

I'm using the iPhone 4s. Live is also a word and if it appears it's only because our finger has touched the i instead of the o. If one is careful love will always appear as love. Try it and see!

How do you do that on 4? By deleting the opened apps on the lower most bar?

I just noticed on my new 4S that you can no longer clear the cache like you could on the 4. Is this a good or not so good thing. I used to do this from time to time on the 4 and it seemed to help it respond better.

I have a couple of Apps -- MemoryInfo and XSysInfo -- that appear to "clean" memory, or free up some memory.

I shouldn't let go of the original instrument from which the backup was made until all goes well with the new iPad.

Shouldn't the information in all apps be backing up to iCloud since I have iTunes set to do that?

When you connected the new iPad it would have asked you to restore from
old. You should had done that to get your data.

Alice --I am confused by your description:
"backed up ... through iTunes ... to iCloud"

I can choose (in iTunes on my computer) to backup through (using) iTunes, OR to backup to iCloud (e.g., via Wifi/internet).

Not both.
In the one case, the backup data is on your computer,
In the other case, the backup data is on Apple's servers in North Carolina.

> I did a sync from my latest backup. All went well or so I thought. When I went into my journal app on the iPad all my journal entries were gone.

Perhaps you backed up to iCloud, and attempted to restore from an earlier backup on your computer.

Jim:
I backup using iTunes to iCloud all the time. Never via WiFi. It is ment to work that way.

Right. In iTunes choose backup to iCloud if that's what you want to do. Your still connecting to iTunes when you do that.

You are still connecting to iTunes in order to make that decision.
You are, in general, NOT connecting to iTunes when you actually back up to iCloud.

I do that every night, with iPhone and iPad plugged into wall power, connected to internet by home Wifi and always-on DSL connection.

Bricked during 5.1 wifi update

Posted by: "Mark Mucher" mark.mucher@gmail.com   smmucher

Update failed on friend's 4

I've tried everything - pushed buttons until blue in the face - even went to AT&T store - they tried too then advised letting battery drain completely - apple store is 80 miles away

This morning is seemed drained - attached to USB cable - just glows black and vibrates for a few minutes - iTunes doesn't recognize it.

Any suggestions? Friend needs what is in the backup on her iTunes

Thanks, Mark

I had a very similar problem with an iPad 2. I finally took it to an apple store and the genius put it in DFU mode and restored from scratch and all is well. Google DFU for instructions on how to do it.

My Son's iPhone did this but it was not during an update. The only thing
that helped was letting it sit until the battery was completely dead.

After about 20 times trying to put it in DFU, it finally worked.

I restored from iCloud backup and she's back in business.

Thanks, all!

Congrats Mark :-) I've had problems getting my iDevices into DFU mode. It takes practice. I'm still not very good at it. Usually takes me a couple tries.

Hi,

How can you I tell if all the information I requested transferred in an
iCloud update?
Is there a way to view what was transferred?

Thanks!

two iphones on one computer

So, to finish the question in the hope that this will help others...

I looked on iTunes for videos explaining how to use two iphones on one computer and found a really good one.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ja_gVs61dQY

After watching it, I chose the option to have a separate user account for my husband. So then, I needed to know how to do that -

And this about having multiple accounts on one Mac and "fast user switching" which is useful when you want to get to the account that the newer iphone is synced to:

You would think that a person who has used Macs for more than 15 years would know these things, but until you need to know, you don't.

It is also possible to have multiple users on one computer sharing the same "database" of music, podcasts, movies, books, Apps, etc.

We have two iPhones and two iPads, all using the same iTunes account and library. Each device have their own apps, music, videos, etc.

Yes, the video said that. My primary concern was making sure that my husband's contacts were saved and I'm short of time, and since my original post didn't generate any help, I took the quickest, easiest route I could find to get his phone synced.

But I'd still appreciate help on how to sync his phone and share my iTunes account!

New iPad transfer, apps won't open

Hello all,
Was lucky enough to get a new iPad yesterday. I did a Restore from Backup of my iPad 2 to transfer all my goodies to the new iPad. All seemed to work fine, but now no non-native app will open, not even iBooks.
Safari, Mail, Reminders, etc all seem okay.

Anyone have any suggestions?

I have already rebooted the new iPad
Running iTunes on a Vista PC.

Thanks!
Dawn

Go to the app store and download any app (a free one). In the past this has
gotten things working again.
