I removed mine when I started with Lion.

I just tried dragging the Launchpad icon from ./Applications to the left side of my dock, and there it is....

Is dock meaning the document folder?

No, not document folder! The row of ICONS at the bottom( or side) of the finder window.

I got it to stick, using the App folder in the dock and not the Application folder it self.

Howdy.

Two scans joined as a single longer file.

Open scan one with the upper part of the document.

Note there term "pasteboard." This refers to the space of an image
that an image is on.

Use the page size feature in whatever image editor you have and make
the size of the page a bit longer than the scan one size plus the scan
two size. If both scans (upper and lower) are the same size, then
double the vertical size of the page in scan one.

Then you need to be sure that the actual image in Scan one is at the
top of the "pasteboard." This is easy to do in a program like
Photoshop.

Then you open scan two, the lower portion of the document, select the
document itself, copy it, go to Scan one, and paste the lower portion
in the bottom part of the pasteboard.

You then have to adjust/drag the bottom part so it mates exactly with
the upper part.

Both scan one and scan two should be done at the same dpi.

After joining the two parts, you may need to "flatten" the image. Not
necessary in all programs. This would be needed in Photoshop, for
example, because a 2nd item pasted into the first scan would be as a
2nd layer and the layers need to be flattened or merged as a single
layer.

It has been a long time since I needed to do this, but I used GraphicConverter to paste the two together. I converted it to a PDF because it is a format that could be used where I needed it. If you don't need it, then don't.

Ok - here's the short of it. You open the file in Photoshop as a JPG,
but JPG does not support layers, so when you open it and make what you
have into "layer 1" it is now a copy of a file/temp file in Photoshop
native .psd format.
Then you open file no. 2 and drag it onto the first file (it's a
Photoshop thing) and then you have a temporary file with 2 layers, one
over the other, still open, not saved yet... Then you have to resize the
canvas to accommodate the new length of the additional document (that is
the canvas, not the image size - these are two different things). Once
you position the two layers/file copies where you want them, you flatten
the image. It's a Photoshop layer command. Once you flatten the image,
it only has one layer. Now you can crop it to the physical dimensions
you want, cutting away the extraneous white border, or whatever. Now you
can re-sample or resize to your desired resolution and/pixel dimension.
This is where the pixel count changes, not the physical dimension. When
you are happy with what you have, you now SAVE AS from Photoshop as JPG,
and presto there is your 1 file...

Flatten.

When you use an image editor like Adobe Photoshop and others it has the
ability to have many layers in the same document.

Layer 1 might be an tree.
Layer 2 might be Issac Newton under the tree.
Layer 3 might be a leprechaun sitting in the tree ready to toss down
and apple.

Each layer can be manipulated and edited and changed separately like
layers in an Excel spreadsheet.

When you do the flatten command all of the layers are squished into a
single layer.

if you do purchase, as with most all such software that removes things from your HDD,
be very careful. now that is sound advise, which you probably already know.

i use cleanmymac more than any other such utility. here is how it works. say, you want to delete a certain piece of software. i use AppZapper. there are other such utilities that attempt do not only delete
the app itself, but one or two, or more things such as plists. ok, fine and dandy. since i started using CleanMyMac, it will pop up and show what still remains, what other utilities overlooked. you
get to see just exactly what remains. and you can choose to delete it or not. i can't see any reason for not deleting it at this point. i stand behind this utility over the other one i said i used, and do, sometimes.
you can see it here:

If they are in the iPod under Audiobooks, then you may have already gotten it done.

Let's see if I can explain it in a way you understand.

- Open iTunes
- find and select all the sections you want to change media type
- when they are all highlighted, type command-i (command is the key to the right of the space bar)
- this will bring up a new window called Multiple "Item Information"
- click on the Options tab
- change the Media Kind from Music to Audiobook
- click OK
- you should now find all the sections or tracks of the audiobook in Library/ Books

If there is an easier way, I would appreciate better directions than I got online.

Harry and Brent,
this is completely new to me.
My experience is, that my iPod only remembers where I stopped listening to an audiobook if I do not open another mp3 book. If I use m4b books, I can listen to more then one at the same time and the iPod remembers where I stopped listening for every single file. I thought the reason for ths is that mp3 books cannot be treated as real audiobooks, but as music files.
Also mp3 books would not show up in the iTunes audiobook section, but were listed with my songs, even if I made the changes you suggested.
You both are right, your suggestion sounds easier (converting an audiobook takes about 10 minutes, but I never had problems finding my way back with chapters).
I have been using audiobook builder for quite a while now, so maybe the possibilities for mp3 have changed with later versions of iTunes or iOS?

It has been a while since I used Audiobook Builder, but it took longer
than that to convert a single section.

If when you change the media type, you look below, you will see the
radio button to remember where you left off.

It does not make telephone calls or receive SMS messages (does have
iMessage though for Apple to Apple messaging over any data connection).

Not sure what you mean by cheaper, you can activate the hot spot feature on
your iPhone (or any smart phone) but it generally costs an additional $20
per month on top of data plan to have the feature.

On the opposite side, the Verizon LTE iPad 3 allows you to use IT as a hot
spot at no additional cost. I tested with my Verizon Android Phone's SIM
card in my new iPad and after about a minute came up as LTE and I tested
everything including using it as a hot spot for my iMac, Macbook, iPhone
and iPad 2 and it worked great so I went ahead and activated the iPad SIM
and put phone SIM back. Will see how much I use it for the first month and
probably turn it on and off as needed at $20 for the first GB or $30 for
2GB (AT&T has the better deal at 3GB for $30 and both go to 5GB for $50).
I keep hoping they will realize that wireless data is extremely overpriced
- can you imaging paying $20, $15 or even $10 per GB for wired data? One
HD movie would cost more in bandwidth than going to the theater.

I see some advert on tv last night about a Gazelle.com who wants to buy your
iPad ????

no idea what it is about. hearing that short of screen niceness, you are as
well off to use or buy a G3 or iPad2 instead. unless you are a gamer or deep
pocket faddist.

Re: iphone photos into albums?

Thanks that works out to part of my questions answered.
The thinking, distilled, is that I have to create a new source folder,
just for holding, for example. Then I sync my phone with that particular
folder. Seems to work.

Now how about those different albums you can create on your phone. I
somehow managed to create one, but I cannot seem to find a way to move
selected images from camera roll to that specific album. Is there an app
for that? Not sure what to look for... photo management on iphone?

Cheers

TextEdit won't open

I don't know what has happened but TextEdit will no longer open. When I right click it there is a list of 10 items, documents, a .sit file, several .rtf files, an .exe file, unknown and an .odt file listed above. I can't open any of them. Force quit closes the program, but they are still all there when I reopen. I have no idea what is wrong, I have searched for the problem online and can't find anything. I usually use it to remove formatting from things I copy from a web page before copying and pasting into a Word document. Any ideas?

Thank you for the time and help,
Jann

What happens if you drag a .txt file into TextEdit, or double-click a .txt
file? If TextEdit fails to open, I'd delete the prefs file (Home > Library
> Preferences > com.apple.TextEdit.plist).

Does it have a FireWire port? Mine (2001 600 MHz) did. If so, you can
connect it in Target Disk Mode and use Migration Assistant to copy over all
the files.

Surely she has backups, though?

Apple has sold over 3 million new iPads since Friday, according to NBC news.

1 million a day!

Isn't that something.

I know I sure want 1. Is there any way of knowing what the original ipad is worth nowadays?
