Hi Darline,

my daughter plays Sims 3 on her iMac. The DVD is for PC AND Mac. Just install the game on your Mac with the DVD you already have.

Tanya,

if you want them to be classified as audiobooks (and treated as such by your iPod) you need to convert the mp3 files into m4b files. I use audiobook builder (splasm software) for this. It's about 12$ and it's very easy to use. Google it, I guess you can find other apps, even free ones.

Not necessary! They can be 'seen' as audiobooks by changing media type
as I've outlined before. .mp3 files CAN be audiobooks. I've got
audiobooks in that format now.

Harry is correct. I have mp3's in my iTunes as books. Just change the media type as explained in previous posts.

Don't forget that you CAN move default apps and purchased/free apps
around from page to page as well as from "folder" to folder. When the
apps wiggle/vibrate, you can then drag them and reorder them as you
wish. The only thing I found you cannot do is delete the apps that came
with your device (i.e., the ones that don't show an X when they are in
wiggle mode). I'm sure there is a workaround, but I have not found one yet.

There is no workaround to deleting built-in apps, short possibly, jail breaking.

The other exception is Newsstand. It does not like to be put into a Folder, but if you are quick enough to place it in a Folder, you will soon discover other problems.

You can move, but not mess with the built-ins.

I don't think iOS lets you put folders inside other folders.
Newsstand is a folder.

Newsstand is a "special" folder, but if you are quick enough, you can manage it, but any periodicals that go into Newsstand will not work or cause major problems.

For me, Newsstand is a major waste of space, since the only thing I have in it is the free version of the New York Times. None of the other newspapers I check go into Newsstand, and I don't subscribe to anything else that goes into Newsstand. Nice idea, less than optimal execution.

Yes, I've had the problem several times, but I don't recall on which websites. (I do use both Chase and Costco.) I haven't figured out how to correct it; I just take a photo of that area of the page (command-shift-4) or print it with snap-z-pro. I would like to find a better solution, though.

Time Machine Back-Up Sizes

Posted by: "Ian Gillis" tessel.bas@gmail.com   ianjgillis

Sun Mar 18, 2012 2:40 pm (PDT)

Thinking about using a cloner application to make a bootable clone of
my hard drive, I did an audit of the current sizes of stuff contained
by my external 2TB back-up disk (which took a long time).

The results were:

Total size = 264GB
Old computer stuff = 23GB
iMovie events = 23GB
Time Machine backups = 7.29 TB

Considering that the current total of stuff on my built-in 500GB HD is
only 103 GB, the Time Machine Backups must a) be the results of a
large number of snapshots of the built-in HD and b) be very compressed
in order to store 7.29 TB in less than 264 GB.

Or am I labouring under a misapprehension?

regards,
Ian

Setting proxy server settings in Snow Leopard

Posted by: "DaveC" davec2468@yahoo.com   davec2468

Mon Mar 19, 2012 12:27 am (PDT)

I want to configure Snow Leopard to use a proxy server for a few web sites.

It looks like if I configure it with a proxy server, that it defaults
to using this server nearly always.

Can I use OS X's proxy settings to use the proxy server based on URL
patterns, rather than to NOT use proxy server based on URL patterns?
In other words, can I make the default action to not use the proxy
server, unless the URL is one of the few I specify?

Thanks,
Dave

Sent to you by Bill Boulware via Google Reader: Apple decides what it
is going to do with its $100 billion in cash, announcing tomorrow via
6AM/9AM conference call via 9to5Mac by Mark Gurman on 3/18/12

Apple has announced that it will hold a conference call tomorrow
morning to discuss the company's plans for its approximately $100
billion in cash reserves. The announcement will occur at 6AM Pacific /
9 AM Eastern time, and the discussions will be led by Apple CEO Tim
Cook and Apple CFO Peter Oppenheimer. Apple specifically notes that the
call will be focused on Apple's decision, not on the current quarter or
topics besides the company's cash reserves.

(719) 219-0041. They must enter confirmation code 592016. However,
anyone can listen in via Apple's QuickTime streaming website. Apple's
cash reserves have been a long topic of discussion as Apple has
continuniously said that it is pleased with its reserves, but is not
ready to announce what they plan to do with the money. An Apple
dividend has been long expected, but other than that, not much has been
rumored.

We'll be covering the call live tomorrow morning. Apple's full press
release is after the break.

WHAT: Tim Cook, Apple's CEO, and Peter Oppenheimer, Apple's CFO, will

WHEN: Monday, March 19, 2012 at 6:00 a.m. PDT/9:00 a.m. EDT

REBROADCAST: The conference call will be available as a continuous

through Monday, April 2 at 9:00 a.m. PDT/12:00 p.m. EDT. The dial-in
number for the rebroadcast is (888) 203-1112 (toll-free) or (719)
457-0820. Please enter confirmation code 6274937.

WEBCAST: Apple will provide live audio streaming of its conference call
using Apple's industry-leading QuickTime® multimedia software. The live
webcast will begin at 6:00 a.m. PDT on March 19, 2012 at
www.apple.com/quicktime/qtv/call31912 and will also be available for
replay for approximately two weeks thereafter. The webcast is available
on any iPhone®, iPad®, iPod touch® or any Mac® or PC running QuickTime
