Data usage discrepancy

My cellphone-bill cycle starts on the third of the month. Each month, on the third of the month, I reset my iPhone cellular-usage log to zero, using the "reset statistics" button under "Settings/General/Usage/Cellular Usage."
By the end of the month, the ATT figure for how much data I have used is always significantly more than the iPhone itself tells me, sometimes as much as 200 megabytes more. How is this possible?

I would be very surprised if the time you reset your data usage coinsides with when AT&T restarts their count. AT&T doesn't track data instantly, it lags real usage by some amount. That is apparent by comparing the stats in tha AT&T app to actual usage. I don't think there is a way to accuratly compare one to the other.

Point taken. But if it was just a matter of when the reading was taken, surely over the long term, say four or five months, the two figures - the iPhone figure and the AT&T figure - should just about match each other. And they don't. Every month, the AT&T figure for how much data I have used is significantly greater than the iPhone figure.

There may be a difference between "bytes transfered" (AT&T) and "bytes
received" (iPhone).
That difference could (among other causes I can imagine) be due to
poor connections (iPhone: "Could you please resend that block of
bytes?").
If so, then we could discuss who'd have to pay for such losses - but
the outcome would definitely be: you (one way or another).

Over a period of months, like you have noted, the error should "wash out". But if it is continually 200 MB over each month, it sounds like it is not a variation in when the usage readings are being taken between you and AT&T.
I would try and find a e-ddress and send them an email asking about this. The reason I suggest using email, is to document your query and their reply. 200MB is probably not going to send you over on your monthly plan, but it does add up over time and they have been caught in other inaccuracies, and now is the time to document it.
Let us know their reply.
BTW, I have started to track and compare my data usage, even though i currently use less than 1 GB on an "unlimited" plan.

I suppose that sounds plausible, although the sheer scale of the difference (200 mb in three weeks) makes me dubious.
As for paying for the data used - I'm not worried on that score. Even with the much-higher AT&T figure, I'm still well within my allowable data limit. I'm just baffled as to how such a huge difference can come about.

So am I. If AT&T should have a forum, you might raise the topic there
(after checking that it isn't in the FAQ), then tell us.

I've emailed AT&T customer service. I'll keep you posted.

Simple Way to Switch App Users??
Posted by: "jiminmanjr" jiminmanjr@yahoo.com jiminmanjr
Mon Mar 26, 2012 8:40 am (PDT)
I have the iPhone 3GS.
I'm starting to do a lot of social media/marketing with my company. I have a Twitter account, Flickr, Facebook and some others.
I also have those items that I use personally.
My question is - is there a simple way to switch between the users? Is it possible to have two Twitter apps on my iPhone - one for personal and one for business? What about Facebook and Flickr?
Perhaps a social media manager like Hoot Suite could take care of this. I'm not sure.
Any input and suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks!
Jim

Simple Way to Switch Users on Facebook

As far as Facebook is concerned one way to have two users is to have the Facebook ap downloaded where one enters as user 1, and then open Facebook on safari and sign in as user 2. Actually using safari one can have a large number of users after signing in and bookmarking.

Sync Ringtones?
Posted by: "Bob Newman" bobnewman@cox.net agunat

iPhone 4S
Someplace along the line my ringtones have disappeared from my iPhone 4S. Not to worry they are still backed up in iTunes. When I highlight my phone in iTunes' left column and choose "Tones" the "sync tones" box is unchecked. When I click on that box to check it I get the following warning message: "Are you sure you want to sync tones? All existing songs, movies, and TV shows on the iPhone "Bob Newman's iPhone" will be removed." I stop when I see that. How do I sync my ringtones back without losing the other stuff?
Thanks in advance... Bob
