Any problems w/latest iOS (5.1) update, specifically battery drainag
Posted by: "cocosolobaby" elisamalo@yahoo.com cocosolobaby

Forgive me if this has been addressed recently:
Has anyone heard of the latest update to iOS 5.1 making battery drainage
worse? I remember in a past update people who didn't have battery
issues suddenly had fast drainage after an update.
I haven't updated to iOS 5.1 because I wanted to see if people said
it made the battery worse. I don't necessarily have battery
problems now (just the regular fast drainage everyone has) but I
don't want to download 5.1 if it's causing battery issues.

My 4s battery seems to be lasting longer since the 5.1 update. I'm pleased.

I agree. I think it's better with 5.1.

Draggy? An English word? And did you perchance mean 5.1?

Battery life seems better. One thing really annoyed me, though. That nice convenient camera button you get when you double clicked before is still there, and is even there when you single click. But tapping on it does nothing - which caused me to miss a couple of pictures. Instead, it is a scroll function which I discovered by accident. Pretty major change of functionality with no warning.

I agree battery life is much better for me. The only reason I knew about the camera was my daughter figured it out. They should post a list of those kinds of changes

Does the 3gs become slow? You click on contact and it takes a while to load.

For what it's worth, I was told by one of the Apple boys in blue, not to update my 3GS to the new iOS 5.1. The processor was too old. Don't kill the messenger, just sayin.

I have a 3g on 4.1. Is Spain using that phone. With 3.1.2 it was amazing.
So asking. I'm yet waiting for a way to get 3.1.2 back on phone.

Quite correct. I was unable to use the cam button, until my daughter pointed out to me that it has switched to scroll. How these things come intuitively to those of her generation is a mystery.

That could be so, however, I updated the day it came out and have
had no issues and it is even a bit faster at everything except
getting to a website.

Spam texts

I am getting the occasional spam text (ad) sent to my iPhone. At 20 cents a text, it's not the end of the world but annoying nonetheless, especially when it keeps beeping at me until I read it. Any way to block spam email, like the national Do Not Call list?
Thanks.

Hi Carol,
If you have AT&T, go to the app store and get "Mark the Spot". It's free and gives you a way to give feedback to AT&T regarding dropped calls, no signal, slow data, etc. It also has a method to tag spam text messages on their end. I get them too and every time I do, send a report via this app. The spam text reporting is a little cumbersome, but it ostensibly gets the job done. If you don't have AT&T, contact your carrier and see if they have anything like that. I agree, spam in any form is annoying!

If you have not registered your phones at donotcall.gov/ do so now. I
believe it also covers text messages.
Like Steve said you can also report it to AT&T, if that is your
provider, with the app Mark the Spot. Also if you look around their
web site you will find more information on how to stop it and I
believe they will remove it from your bill. I believe one of the
moderators here has posted the URL, but my regular computer is in for
repairs, so look in the archives or on your provider's site.
You're not going to stop all spam, but you can reduce it and help to
locate and prosecute the ones who do, using these tools.

I forward all AT&T spam test to "SPAM". AT&T will text back and ask for the
phone number that the text came from. Replay with the phone number and they
will send a thank you message. All these texts are free. This is not going
to stop spam texts but I think it helps.
I also get spam texts sent to my Google Voice number. Not much I can do
about these messages.
